Out with the old....

Summary: It's New Year's, and the people of Luceti have a lot to reflect upon, and to look forward to. And on a more meta level, new journal names.

New Year's brings images of crowds, and songs, and fireworks; staying up til midnight and watching balls or bells being rung. But Luceti is a different time and place. Whether you're partying with friends or watching the sunrise, what are you doing today?

[ She's saved! At least that causes her to smile brightly at the other girl, nodding as if nothing is wrong at all. ]

It's okay, Ami-chan! Don't worry, I'm fine now, and that didn't hurt at all! [ a nod, and she looks up to the sky again for a moment. ]

Hmm, they are.. I was wondering if they'd have fireworks here, but I'm glad they do! It's so pretty to watch them explode in the sky..!

We'll stay awhile, and go back when it gets too cold, how about that?

[It's... really a wonderful sight, the way the village comes together sometimes. Even Ami feels caught up in the cheer, and lets Usagi lead her along without complaint, duly looking over each new sight.]

Yo, Ami-chan! Usagi-chan!

[Don't worry girls, you don't have to mind the waving boy too much if you don't want to. He was just ~~hunting~~ searching for his girlfriend but he's not the type to ignore someone he knows. Even if he can't really say he knows Usagi anymore.]

Happy New Year!

[ She's about to nod at Ami, but then she hears a voice calling out their names, and she curious peers over. Usagi blinks, considering she doesn't recognize him, the only time they talked he pretended to be her journal.. ]

Ah.. Happy New Year, but.. [ headtilt. ] You know me?

Sort of. [Ami cuts in to make the polite introductions.]

Usagi-chan, this is Keiichi-san; he knew you when you were here before. Keiichi-san, as you know, this is my friend from home, Tsukino Usagi.

[This.... would hopefully go well. Oh, Usagi would get along with Keiichi; Usagi got along with everyone. But when she was keeping secrets about their future from Usagi, what might Keiichi say, even unintentionally?]

[Indeed she wouldn't know him, but he knows her. Besides having seen her around and hearing about her from Ami. Even with the black hair instead of blonde hair and it being shorter than before, Usagi is still Usagi. Hard to miss.

He laughs as he approaches them and nods to Usagi.]

Nice to meet you, Usagi-chan... Wait a second, Ami-chan why do you give me her last name and for her I'm just Keiichi-san? Don't tell me you don't know my last name after everything we have gone through together?

[Dramatic exaggeration of a heart being broken, of course.]

[ Of course it's still weird, dealing with the idea of her being here before and having known so many people, but.. well, Usagi wouldn't be Usagi if she would just put herself over it and be glad that it's even easier to make friends this way. ]

Nice to meet you too! Ah-- Do I really have to say Keiichi-san, though? Wouldn't Keiichi-kun be good enough? [ Even if he's older and all now. She giggles though at his exaggeration; it's rather funny to see. ]

Of course not. [Though now she's very embarrassed that splitting the distance between her formality and Usagi's enthusiasm has seemed rude.] Maebara Keiichi-san.

[And that just might be Ami's cheeks flushing.]

[Ami, don't you know him already? He laughs and waves a hand lightly to rest importance to it.]

It's okay, it's okay. But don't you think you can drop the -san and call me just Keiichi-kun or Keiichi already, Ami-chan? Specially if Usagi-chan is going to call me Keiichi-kun.

Ah, Ami-chan's a bit picky about that though, right? [ not that she means it in a bad way - she just knows it took her ages to have the girl call her Usagi-chan..

She turns to the other girl for a moment. ]

What do you think?

[Please don't call her picky, Usagi. Ami shakes her head; even if she doesn't recall all of it vividly, she's known Keiichi for awhile here. It's probably alright by now, isn't it?]

Keiichi-kun, then.

See? That's better. We have known each other since February... Of two years ago. Wow, time sure flies.

[Even if she was a bit different at first.]

Whaaat?! Keiichi-kun and Ami-chan have already known each other for that long?

[ she gasps, staring from Ami to Keiichi and back. ]

I can't beat that at all! How unfair!

[This is getting more awkward by the moment, and Ami shakes her head very slightly, with a tight smile.]

It's not really... That is, we've known each other, but... Some things happened. [She was really a terrible person.] And we sort of didn't speak for awhile.

[She'll never say he was in love with her briefly; or how much it had meant to her then, even if it's been all but forgotten by everyone else by now. She's come not to expect to have truly close relationships with the people around her.]

[She can't beat that? What... Is this a competition now? Keiichi's eyes gleam and he smiles widely, putting out his chest a bit.]

That's right! I've know Ami-chan for close to two whole years! I bet I know more about her than you do, I even was her boyfriend for a bit! Well, kind of, it was an experiment, but still she was a great girlfriend.

[Nodding to himself.]

And it's not unfair, it's your fault for not coming here with her earlier, you know.

[He looks at Ami with a light frown on his face, though.]

We spoke often, not as much as I would have liked but we did... I suppose you don't remember though, that was really long ago for you, right?

Things happened..?

[ She starts to ask Ami about it, but then Keiichi starts boasting like that and she can't help but immediately have her attention diverted to that, as she huffs a little and starts pouting at the guy. ]

You've known Ami-chan for two years?! And you were her boyfriend?! [ she's completely losing herself in this surprise and huffiness. ]

I'm sorry, but I couldn't help it that I wasn't with her earlier-- there was another Usagi either way, so there couldn't be two of me, right? That would be really, really weird! So I had to wait until that other Usagi was gone, I bet!

[Ami shakes her head, and answers quietly.]

I remember some of it. Not always perfectly, but after awhile, more and more. And since coming back, I remember Luceti, so I've started to remember those things again, too.

You do? Then you remember how we did spend some time together, after all. I'm still sorry I couldn't make up for you regarding Valentine's, things got chaotic for a bit and when I could do it, so much time had passed it seemed just wrong. Maybe I can make up for it in another way even after so long?

[Usagi, don't huff and pout so cutely, you only make him want to boast and tease even more. Cue a laugh on his part.]

Yes, I was! I will always remember fondly those study dating sessions and eating together during lunch time. Ami-chan will always be my first girlfriend after all. And she's a great friend as well. She's even my personal doctor, I wouldn't trust anyone else with my life!

[Well, there was another Usagi but that one was blonde and with longer hair... He's not sure if they really count as the same with just sharing a name. Though then again so far she's not being that different from how the Usagi he knew was.]

Sure, sure. Did you even try to come? Maybe you could have done so! Or could have pushed out the other Usagi if you really wanted to come. Besides, that was long ago, Ami-chan has been alone for a good deal of time, you know? You better make up for her as well. Pay more attention to her even if you have other friends, she deserves it.

[He's mostly just teasing though. He's pretty sure Usagi pays Ami a lot of attention no matter what... Right?]

[ She's mostly just helplessly staring back and forth between Ami and Keiichi, opening and closing her mouth a few times like a goldfish. When he finally finishes talking though she quickly cuts in, still being rather huffy and pouty over this - she's gullible enough to fall for that kind of teasing. ]

How cruel, Keiichi-kun, definitely cruel! [ she pouts, and then moves to hook her and Ami's arms, clinging to the other girl. ] Ami-chan's one of my best friends, I would have helped her if I had a choice! Ami-chan knows so too, right, Ami-chan?

Please don't tease like that. [It's said quietly.] Usagi-chan couldn't help what the Malnosso did. She had no way to know, either.

[And... She'd be safer at home. (But would home? If Usagi could learn to control the princess here... But that involves telling her.)

What's more important is working together now that each of us are here.

[Aww, but teasing her is fun, Ami.]

I'm not really teasing her. I'm being honest. Ami-chan is really special and important, a great friend for me. It's natural that I'll be worried if someone who claims to be her best friend may not be cut for it. And I bet she doesn't know Ami-chan as well as I do.

[Lies but he's used to bluff.]

At least Ami-chan's on my side.. [ have a whiny Usagi next to you, Ami, but then she starts pouting at Keiichi again. ]

Ami-chan is really important and special to me too, she's one of my very best friends! A-and.. no way you know more about Ami-chan than me! What's her favourite food, huh?

Ah... [This is suddenly getting uncomfortable with them arguing over this, even if they're mostly joking, but there's a part of her that almost enjoys it, too. ~~So she hasn't totally stopped being petty.~~]

Usagi-chan is definitely a most important and wonderful friend.

I know she's an important and wonderful friend for you, Ami-chan. But it's the other way around what worries me.

[Waving a hand, this is about testing if Usagi is a good friend for Ami or not, okay. Or about teasing her most likely, it's hard to tell.]

And its sandwiches! [Unless she has changed that recently.] Do you know what's her least favorite food?

Why are you worried about that? Ami-chan's a super important and wonderful friend to me, you meanie, bully!

[ she sticks out her tongue at Keiichi, easily riled up as always. ]

And her least favorite's yellowtail tuna, of course!
