A Day In Another World

Who: Anyone in the event
What: For 21 hours, pairs of characters will get to visit one of their worlds
When: Sunday morning, from 1AM to 10PM (in Luceti time)
Where: Somewhere else!
Summary: It's described here. One person will play the host, another the visitor.
Rating: Keep it clean, kids! Move your icky business to appointments posts.

Quick run of things to keep in mind:

-The pair of characters will return to the host's canon point. The host will temporarily return to their physical state at whatever their canon point was.
-Anything they do will be undone after they return to Luceti.
-If they are going to be part of the Alternate Universe aspect of the event, they won't remember the visit until after they have returned to normal.

Disclaimer: Visiting canon worlds will mean having to NPC characters that may already exist in Luceti, but will have no memory or knowledge of it. Be respectful and in character and bear in mind that these do not reflect upon characters in game!

ALSO! Threading out the visit is 100% optional. You're entirely free and encouraged to discuss and handwave what goes on if you want. But if you would like to thread it out, you may do so here.

[Her voice is slightly clipped with restrained emotion.]

No, how asking for someone to lie to you by loving them isn't obvious. And I have no idea what you mean by not loving her enough.

I told you, didn't I? [and he loosens his grip on her hand. And he (yes, he) voluntarily slides it off of hers to have it dangle between his legs. He looks down at his hands as he finishes with]

I failed. I couldn't step into the warehouse and just froze outside of it. Obviously, I didn't feel strongly enough for her.

[That leaves her uncertain of what to do with her hand. She could just... leave it on his leg, but... that's an intimacy she's not sure she's comfortable with.

Instead she sets it on his shoulder.

I won't let you run.]

...I can see why you'd think that. That's what you hear in stories all the time, right? That love carries us through and helps us do impossible things. But you're wrong, Masaomi. This wasn't about you loving her enough or not enough. This was about you being scared, and not having anyone to fall back on. This was about you turning to the person you thought you could trust, and not having him answer the phone. This isn't as simple as you make it sound.

[It was simple, though. It was painfully simple. He'd failed her. Nothing would make that okay.

But Katara had seen far worse failures, far worse betrayers work to recover and become men of honor.

Nothing can excuse what he didn't do. But that didn't have to define him.]

Love might be a leveler, but it isn't magic.

[There's subtext here. It's worth noting he is aware there is something being unsaid. But... he's also way, way to high strung right now to focus on it. He lifts his hand and places it on top of hers]

...It was amazing, to see her walk in Luceti.

[He's not even sure what to feel anymore]

[She allows his hand to cover hers.]

[She'd thought - if she gave thought to it at all - that Luceti had restored Saki's legs, as it had so many other things, or perhaps that Raine had healed them.

But now she's starting to wonder.]

Yeah... it was really, amazing.

[But there's something odd in his tone. While it was amazing (for all these years he'd mostly believed she was paralyzed) it also... confirmed she wasn't. It also confirmed that was a lie to trap him.]

[Gently:]

You're doing that thing again.

What thing?

[markofthebrave]

That thing where you think you're making sense, but you're really only getting more confusing.

[Tentative smile.]

[...Hah. He cocks his head to the side]

Katara, we're getting to know each other really well.

[markofthebrave]

[...blink.]

Yes, but that doesn't clarify what you were talking about.

[No, you already dodged her other question, she's not going to let this go.]

[generalflirt]

Saki was paralyzed, remember?

[She nods.]

I thought maybe, in Luceti... something had happened to fix that.

[...but she's wrong, isn't she. She can tell, even as she's speaking.]

[generalflirt]

[How could I lie though, it's the most obvious thing in the world. After all, it's amazing more people didn't call me on it in Luceti.]

...It's a lie.

[She pretended to be paralyzed.

For years.

For some reason, it never hurt when he was with her in Luceti. Well no, that's not true, it did hurt. But it didn't hurt in the same way it does right now. Right now... he feels anger welling up in him. He feels disgust welling up in him. He feels indignation]

[And he hangs his head, tightening his grip on her hand on his shoulder. In spite of himself, he hurts way more than he expected to]

It's a lie.

[It's a lie.

That she was paralyzed was the lie. She'd lied to him about being paralyzed. Why would anyone do that? That was a terrible thing to do!

"Izaya told her I would."]

[markofthebrave]

[She surges forward and wraps her free arm around his neck, pulling him (awkwardly, due to their position side-by-side) closer for a hug.

She's furious.]

[...

... He doesn't even know what to be feeling here. So he just. Lets himself be hugged before pulling his free arm around slowly to go around her waist.

But he doesn't feel butterflies now. He just feels his hurt being a little less painful]

[She lets him do that, lets him hold her.

It's only fair, since she's not letting go of him just yet either.

And she is so angry that she's trembling. The chances are good that she won't let go until some of the anger passes, because on one level she knows just how little he needs to hear all of what she desperately wants to say.

Instead, after a moment, she'll speak with her voice low.]

...I know what it's like to be lied to by the people that you care about. I know what it's like to be used. And I'm sorry that she dared to hurt you like that.
