Katara and her boyfriend, Bumi's ward Masaomi, are heading back to the house after Katara had an experience that left her shaken with an Avatar that doesn't remember her. Sokka and his good friend Winry from Omashu are moving her back into the Avatar House after her belongings had mysteriously vanished. What could possibly go wrong?

[And sometime after this one there's been a third switch, namely, for Katara to go and talk with Winry (Masaomi feels bad for her, sigh) and he... with a heavy heart is going to talk with Sokka. Still, he's put a smile onto his face, forcing himself a bit. After all, this is his friend]

[As it turns out, after his conversation with Katara, Sokka decided to go outside. He's leaning against the stone in his honor, while using a whetstone to sharpen his hunting knife. His mind is filled with thoughts. Like what this all meant for Winry, about Katara's different life experiences, and how Masaomi could be his friend. It was all hard to reconcile. But mostly he was trying to figure out what was real.

When Masaomi stepped outside, he could hear the door creak open and then close.

He should probably talk to him.]

So. I guess I know your story now.

[generalflirt]

[...Hm, that tone isn't as hostile as before. It almost feels normal, even if it's a bit more distant than he would like. The smile fades and he adopts a more neutral expression, shifting to a standing position, leaning slightly to one side]

It's a pretty strange tale, I know.

[markofthewise]

It's different than the one I know. [In Luceti. In home. Way different. He glances at Masaomi and though he might be trying to hide any feelings, he's able to guess what he might be thinking. Should he be friendly with Masaomi when he knows it'll go back to business as usual when the experiment ends? Is it worth the effort?

He'd been in those shoes before. Convinced of a life he never met. Different relationships. And people had doubted he was real. He doubted if they were real too. But it was easier when people played along.]

I know I wouldn't trust Bumi with a baby. [It's a joke, but there's no grin that comes with it. Just Sokka looking back down at his knife, running the stone over the edge again.]

[Masaomi is genuinely defensive when people are actually insulting his father. This. Is not one of those times. Instead, he allows this to fall into a joke land, and allows a more forces smile to spread out on his face]

He's just a liiiittle more gentle than people might expect. Sometimes.

[markofthewise]

Bending requires precision, just like swordplay. If you're going to be throwing around giant boulders, you need to be gentle if you don't want to crush somebody on accident. [He has his experiences as an Avatar to thank for that insight.] He may be a weird old man, but he certainly has that down.

[Even as he says that, he thinks of the baseball. Masaomi's lack of control. The Masaomi he knows, as an earthbender, would crush a man flat without meaning to.]

Sokka, giving me a bending lesson? [He arches an eyebrow, and it's clear there's a sort of jovial tone here] Perish the thought.

[markofthewise]

[Ugh. It's hard. Everytime Masaomi grins, he's reminded of when he grinned during Sokka's ultimatum.]

So do you fight or something?

[generalflirt]

I do, but not nearly as well as you and the others do. [Well no, back home he was matched with Sokka, possibly even better than him. But in Luceti, Sokka's potential totally outdid his own] But I've got other talents. [Tapping the side of his head and adopting a Bumi-esque expression.

And an insatiable craving for rock candy?

[He only knows that Bumi is clever. More so than he looks or acts. Raised by Bumi, he figures Masaomi might have some of that too. He just wonders how that applies to the real him...]

Well, I have been known to like it.

[He considers going with the semi-inside jokes which revolve around their first trip to Omashu. But he... holds back on that]

Given the whole... Bumi thing, it was probably inevitable.

As I've told Katara many times, I could have eaten you two out.

Now it just sounds disgusting. And having tasted buzzard bee honey, I'm pretty qualified to say that too.

That's Plan C, Plan C! Plan B was actually to get Momo to do it.

Impressive an eater as Momo might be, I'm pretty sure it grew faster than he could eat it.

I think you might be underestimating Momo's mastery of a few jings.

... since when does Momo have jings?

Since always. He's mastered several.

"Lazing" Jing, and "Hunger" Jing. The first one branches from Neutral Jing, and the second one branches from positive! [He says this all dead seriously but it's also with a strange little smirk. So really, he could be joking or he could be serious. It is unclear]

Wow. Those sound incredibly useful. [Sokka had Hunger Jing down at least!]

You'd be surprised! All of them have their uses.

Like getting out of doing work?
