Summary: The Fire Lord, the Avatar, and a Master Waterbender all sat down to dinner.
Rating: Should be fairly low key

Life goes on. And as Sokka and Suki go off to celebrate their very real love and their very real anniversary, someone still has to make dinner. And tonight, as with many other nights, that someone is Katara. There is a vegetarian dish for Aang, a large dish of rice and mango, and some spicy shish-kabobs for Zuko (and some less spicy ones for Katara). Despite the awkwardness, this is life, and they have to keep living it.

Just a day, like any other. [Nothing special. And he wasn't late. He just... forgot what time it was.

Look, food. He's just going to stuff that in his mouth now, thanks.]

[Aang looked up from his plate a moment later with a mouth full of tofu and vegetables still in the process of being chewed. He spoke in this condition.]

I had a pretty great day! Pretty much the same as usual. How about your day, Katara?

[She corrects him automatically.]

Aang, that's gross. Chew with your mouth closed.

And my day was good. Chopper's back, so he got to show me what he was talking about with his new medical equipment today!

[Aang quickly chews it down and swallows.]

Sorry. But it tastes great so far! And that sounds neat - new medical equipment?

[She nods, smiling approvingly at his adjustment.]

Yeah, he went on a mission to get a bunch that mimics the stuff from the med lab in the Battle Dome.

[burningdownfate]

[Zuko swallows that giant bite he's been working on.] Probably good to have new equipment. What kind of stuff?

[markofthebrave]

Well, we went to work on the equipment in the med lab to practice. We worked with the X-Ray machine for a bit.

[Aang listens intently while chewing his next bite (having to consciously keep his mouth closed), then talks after swallowing.]

Wow. That's the one that can see inside your body, right?

[markofthebrave]

[She nods.]

Yeah, it's pretty amazing! It sees straight to the bone.

That doesn't seem a little creepy to you? [Just... this face.]

[markofthebrave]

At first it did, a little. But not everyone can tell where internal injuries are by checking someone's chi. So it's really useful for this kind of medicine.

[She takes a bite of her rice and swallows.]

Useful, sure. Still creepy.

[Aang distracted himself for a moment by staring at his hand and trying to picture its bones.]

I wonder what my skeleton looks like.

It probably looks like anyone else's. We could show you in the Battle Dome, if you like. We use the rooms to make all kinds of medical simulations.

[Ignoring Zuko, because practicality trumps creepy any day of the week. Mostly.]

I'd like that. I've been wanting to visit the Dome more often.

[markofthebrave]

I don't really like to go there to practice. [Because there are some instances about it which make Katara paranoid.] But it's good for a lot of other things.

I mostly like all the different places it can show. Even from home. But for training, I'd rather practice bending outside.

[He corners and consumes another piece of tofu.]

[markofthebrave]

[GLANCE at Zuko. Have you two started sparring or continuing your firebending teaching yet?]

[WHAT is that glance for, Katara?] I don't use the Dome either.

[markofthebrave]

[Sigh.]

So, Aang - when you're from, what's your status on your bending? Have you mastered them all?

[Even at the end, she'd heard Toph saying that he still needed practice on his earthbending. She'd never really even seen Aang successfully firebend, come to think of it.

Hmm.]

I think I'm at a really high level with all the forms, but I wouldn't say I've completely mastered them. Except for Airbending, of course. I still knew enough to survive against Ozai. [He paused to sip some juice and briefly wondered if mentioning Ozai in front of Zuko was a bad idea. So he quickly continued.]

I still have to practice regularly to keep things up. And there are still a bunch of techniques I never learned... like metalbending. But I can deflect lightning, thanks to Zuko here.

[burningdownfate]

[It's okay to mention Ozai. Just don't expect long conversations. Zuko shrugs one shoulder and picks up one of the shish-kabobs.] We could spar, if you wanted. There's no sense in letting your firebending go by the wayside here.

[Ha, and she didn't even need to kick him under the table.

Katara takes a satisfied sip of soda.]

Sure, Zuko. My firebending is the one I have the least experience in, and you did kinda think I didn't know enough back before the last battle. I can pick things up if you want.
