[It doesn't take long for Rydia to realize what's amiss when she awakens on the first day. Many of her items remain untouched, but she can't find any of her rods, only her whip. She searches the house, only to meet with no success. Deciding to teleport to the item shop and check there, she concentrates...only for nothing to happen.

Annoyance turns into panic. None of her spells manifest, not ever minor ones like Libra or Sight. Shaken, she steps outside anyway, needing a moment to pull herself together. Unfortunately, she's not even given that. Out of nowhere, several goblins appear and approach her, ready to strike. She automatically thinks to cast, stops before that costs her more time. Instead, she reaches for her whip and uncoils it, lashing out. Her aim is good, but the goblins are just as quick, and more numerous. Help would be nice.]

[Good thing Kain is on his way to train. He's noticed some things are different about his armor, and overall something feels... unusual... but not in any way that's all that troublesome. He heads out just in time to see Rydia and the goblins.]

[...except trying to just Jump in does no good. At least he seems to be able to lift his spear, and he has those fighting abilities intact. Kain rushes forth to start stabbing at the goblins.]

[Kain's presence is definitely welcome and allows her to concenrate on one at a time, as opposed to the entire group. She briefly wonders why he didn't just jump as usual, but there's no time to question that. Instead, she backs up and strikes with her whip once more, keeping the attention of one of the goblins.

Then...it's not quite like the magic she's used to, but Rydia knows without being told that she can tame this one with a little more effort. Being careful not to harm it more than she must, she strikes...and watches as the goblin held back, the hostility in its gaze replaced by obedience. It would do as she wishes now.]

Attack the others!

[There's no hesitation; the goblin rushes to do so.]

[Kain gasps in shock, nearly losing grip on his weapon as he sees Rydia command the goblin. How did she do that!?]

[Ah... well, anyway, it's helpful, and he returns his attention to stabbing at the still-hostile goblins. Questioning this situation can come afterward.]

[Rydia notices that reaction, but explanations will have to wait. Instead, she bids the goblin to continue attacking its fellow creatures while she uses her whip to strike any others that dare approach her. Perhaps in time she'll learn how to control more than one, but this is still a good start.]

[Kain continues his assault, at least he's not forgotten how to use his spear. Goblins fall as he keeps going.]

[She doesn't stop contributing to the assault until the last one falls. Only then does she relax slightly, looking him over to see if he's alright. A small smile forms, grateful for all that she's annoyed about not being able to take care of a few simple goblins on her own.]

[Kain nods, glancing at her.]

I'm glad I could help. Something is amiss... well, I suppose it's obvious enough.

[She nods grimly.]

I tried to use my magic, but...nothing. At least I could control one, but I'm not even sure how I could do that. And...you didn't Jump once, that I saw.

[dragoon_pride]

[Kain looks away, because losing the jump abilities only reminds him of an awful penalty and the death that caused it.]

...It's gone. It's as if all I can do is fight physically...

[Her gaze grows sympathetic as she moves to rest her hand on his arm.]

It won't. This chaos never does, remember. We just have to wait it out.

I know... I'll try and be patient.

[At least he's still capable of fighting as well as ever, so there's that.]

[Rydia smiles at that, but it soon fades.]

We should find the others. If it's happened to us, it's likely happened to them.

[Kain nods agreement. At least they can fight, after all.]

You're right, this might cause them worse trouble than it has for us.

And if they've left the house, they've probably encountered the monsters as well.

[That thought worries her than almost anything else, so she moves away enough to lead them back to the house.]

...but we should double-check. If they haven't, that will save us a lot of trouble.
