What: a slightly belated surprise birthday party

Summary: For the first time in long, long while, Kaori is going to be celebrating her birthday- at least if Frey can help it.
Rating: P for party.

[It had taken some doing, but things were finally in place for the party, although it was two days later then planned due to recent happenings. Frey had taken the initiative to send Kaori and Lym to visit Masaomi, using the excuse of asking them to check up on him after his injury and perhaps invite him to lunch to get things ready in their absence. When they returned, that was when the party would begin.

With the help of the people in house 11, everything had turned out fairly well- food was set out on a long table against a wall in the foyer, and decorations had been put up. Frey had taken the liberity to make two cakes- mostly because he knew his housemates, and he knew one wouldn't really last, but also because he had wanted to try something different with the second one.]

When I was smaller I did, the last time was right before the war but now, I don't think I could get away with it. I'm not even sure I'm allowed to let people know about the bad dreams...

[She looks embarrassed and shakes her head]

... But why not? [He didn't comment on it often, but she knew that Freyjadour worried a lot about Lym. Maybe it was because she didn't say anything that he seemed to worry even more.]

You're allowed to talk about how you feel sometimes, y'know?

I guess, but I'm also supposed to at least appear strong. Back home I was told people can live better if I'm at least faking it.

But here you're watched by a lot of people, and it'd probably be easier to tell that you're faking it because of that don't you think? [She isn't at all familiar with what palace life was like, but Kaori is going to assume that it was a lot more private than what Luceti offers.]

[chibifalenas]

A lot of people? Like maybe 6... TOPS! Back home it was hundreds. You know they wouldn't let me go to the bathroom by myself?

.... That's kind of disgusting.

[She just nods]

I actually thought it was normal for a while but I really prefer the privacy here. I guess that's one of the few good things.

I dunno, usually living in a small population means more people know who you are and all your habits or something like that.

[chibifalenas]

Having 10 maids follow you all the time means it gets out too.

... Why would you let gossips take care of someone in your status? [Since she's a queen... right?]

I try not to, but its human nature.

It is, isn't it...? [It wasn't something she'd ever really understood, honestly.]

Yeah, its just the way people work when they get together in groups I guess.

[seiriald]

And you're not interested in being like them at all?

[chibifalenas]

I don't really have a group I can be like that with. There are lots of maids, but I'm terrible at disguises and everyone would freak out because its me. Even if I wanted to.

But it's not the same here. Don't you get that? [What has your brother been teaching you that's the opposite of what he's trying to make Kaori believe?]

Its... Hard to internalize those changes.
