What: a slightly belated surprise birthday party

Summary: For the first time in long, long while, Kaori is going to be celebrating her birthday- at least if Frey can help it.
Rating: P for party.

[It had taken some doing, but things were finally in place for the party, although it was two days later then planned due to recent happenings. Frey had taken the initiative to send Kaori and Lym to visit Masaomi, using the excuse of asking them to check up on him after his injury and perhaps invite him to lunch to get things ready in their absence. When they returned, that was when the party would begin.

With the help of the people in house 11, everything had turned out fairly well- food was set out on a long table against a wall in the foyer, and decorations had been put up. Frey had taken the liberity to make two cakes- mostly because he knew his housemates, and he knew one wouldn't really last, but also because he had wanted to try something different with the second one.]

...You don't have to tell me that. [He doesn't believe any of the humans in the house, but he at least wants to give her a reason to be happy.]

I know. [He knew very well that Mithos didn't think Frey or anyone else in house 11 capable of such a thing. For him this was probably a vastly uncomfortable situation, one in which he wasn't inclined to trust anyone in the party beyond the birthday girl herself.]

Then why are you still here?

...I merely wished to thank you.

I can leave now, if you would prefer that.

[He had expected Frey to try to coax him back inside, to berate him for not trying hard enough, to accuse him of not caring about Kaori. But it looks like Frey almost understands his uneasiness, and that brings a new level of uncertainty. He hides it.]

I think you wish me to leave. [He smiles a bit, not minding much. Mithos had gone beyond what he expected of him, really, even coming here during the party rather then after or not even coming at all.]

I will go then.

[He says nothing, just glaring in response. It won't soften until Frey is out of sight.]

[Annnd he'll be turning around and leaving.

But that plate of food and cookies and cake? Is left there for Mithos if he so chooses to eat it. As is the cup of punch.]
