Who: Anyone attending Nami's birthday party. /o/
What: ...Nami's birthday party. 8|
When: Evening on the 4th July.
Where: The mikan orchard.
Summary: An impromptu last minute stubborn celebration of something that's fun.

[Tis a mingling post. Mingle! Seriously. The orchard's lit up, there is alcohol, there are snacks, there are mikan. There's also piles of coloured paper for much later, but that's another story.

[Hi, strange, pretty lady he's never met before. Have some sheepish laugh.]

I've had a lot of practice making paper boats! But pinwheels, not so much. [Brightens up at the offer.] You'll teach me? That's great! Thanks, lady!

Of course. [She passes him a slip of origami paper and starts to show him step by step] Where did you learn to make the boats?

[Taking the paper, and watching and attempting to copy the steps carefully.

Oh. Right, there's a question, isn't there.] I learned from a book. When I was little, I used to make lots of 'em and I'll send them off into the river. Thought they'd reach the sea that way! [But that was long ago, way before Ace and Luffy.]

Oh? You should have tracked them. Perhaps they did. Don't fold over so much there. [She points to a crease]

So in other words, you've always longed for the sea?

Whoops. [Fixing that and trying again.]

Ah, I would've. But there's always stuff coming up. [Namely his father's men catching him and he was too little and weak to fight them off just yet.] And yep. The sea meant freedom, away from my home island. So I've always wanted to set sail!

[Somehow, he's feeling some sort of deja vu. Huh, weird.]

Freedom comes at a price. [So many have said that and she does see the appeal. These days she would prefer it. And yet...]

Sometimes I wonder whether the real luxury would be to remain home. In familiar places. [For a little while, at least. Though, of course, home is all relative because now it's on the Thousand Sunny. Somewhere she can always return to and always knows she will be welcomed]

[His hands still at that. "Freedom comes at a price." Indeed. Didn't he pay with his life for it? Oh, but he doesn't want to think about that now.

So he shrugs, folding his paper again.] To some, maybe. It probably depends on the home or the people they're going back to.

[She notices the pause and remembers his unfortunate fate. She needs to learn better how to deal with the should-be-dead. As it happens, she's not sure what to say]

That's true. I suppose it also depends on what you mean by home, ne?

Home's wherever the people most important to you are, right? So it could be anywhere! 'Least that's how I see it.

Mm. That's very true.

This next part takes a bit of concentration, so watch carefully. [And she folds it with slow precision, making sure he's following along]

[Attempting to fold in the exact same way, with tongue sticking out in concentration, and then leaning back to critically study his work compared to Robin's.]

Huh. It's actually starting to look like a pinwheel. [you know, compared to his earlier attempts.]

It is. They're not hard to make once you learn how.

[A beat]

When we're finished, perhaps you will show me how to make a boat?

Sure! It's a fair trade, isn't it?

Ah. I haven't introduced myself yet! [He lowers his paper for a moment and offers a handshake.] My name's Sabo. Nice to meet you!

[She just smiles at him] Now you're cheating.

[Eh? Cheating?

.....

Yeah he got nothing.]

I... What do you mean?

Hmm. Let's just say I already know who you are. [She pokes his hat lightly]

[Touching his hat and frowning. He's pretty sure he hasn't seen this lady before.

And yet... There's that deja vu he can't seem to shake off. The only people he really interacts with the most tends to be from his own world. So that means...?]

...You're friends with Luffy and Ace?

What do you think?

[...

.....

Suddenly, there's a bright grin on his face.]

Good to finally meet you... Robin!

[An equally bright smile on hers]

Good to meet you again, Sabo-chin. [She takes his hand briefly] As for that [She points to the pinwheel.] You're almost finished.

[And here she'll guide him through the rest of the process]

[He blinks when she takes her hand, but happily lets her guide him anyway. It reminds him of the time he, Ace and Luffy asked Makino to teach them how to sew their ASL flag... And when it's done, Sabo holds up his finished pinwheel and blows carefully.

Cue some boyish glee.] Whoa, it really spins! That's awesome!

[Turning to Robin with a grateful smile.] Thanks a lot! Who would've thought I'd be needing your help again when we finally met for real?!

[She watches the pinwheel spin]

It was fun. And now it's your turn. [Since paper boats seem fun and nothing she's thought of making]

Tell me, did you ever learn to write again?

Yeah, okay. [Handing her a sheet of paper and getting one for himself.] So boats, huh... First thing is to fold 'em in half. Then the corners right to the middle, like this. [Demonstrates.]

Yep, I did! Some three days after we met.

That's excellent. How is your story progressing? [She takes the sheet and follows his directions. Amazing how many projects start with just this simple step.]

Kinda slow, to be honest. There's not much adventure or excitement to be had in this place. 'Least, in between weirdass experiments and some shady Malnosso business...

[Folding the bottom part of the paper then flattening it, and showing it to Robin.]
