Beach Party!?

Who: Anyone who wants to come!
What: BEACH PARTY! (For Katara or something)
When: In the evening, about 7PM
Where: On the beach! Somewhere!
Summary: It's Katara's 17th and while all friends of Team Avatar are invited, anyone else can gatecrash too.
Rating: E for everyone (for God's sake there's going to be seven year olds!)

[A few days before the birthday, Katara's housemates began birthday preparations. Not quite entirely secret, but they made invitations, told friends, spread the word, and so on. Birthday on the beach. Be there or be a loser McButtface without friends.

And so there's a party! With tables! And chairs! And umbrellas! And the sun is setting, but the Malnosso had no taste and put the ocean on the east side of Luceti, so it's a sunset over the mountains which isn't as cool as an ocean sunset. But anyway. There's a volleyball net and, you know, an ocean to swim in. Also Sokka ordered a generator with his mission points and abducted the karaoke machine. It was mostly to provide some music, but people can get up and sing with it too.

As for the food? There's a table for that. It's a bring your own dish affair, since Katara is kind of their team cook and they can't exactly make her own birthday meal, right? So anyone coming can bring whatever they like and set it out. The gang brought some meals of their own, so there's bound to be some cool dishes from the air nomads, water tribe, and fire nation. And cake. A big chocolate cake. Someone made it! We don't know who. (Feel free to dibs being the baker or something if you want.)

And a table! A table for presents! Bring a present, set it there. It's very organized.]

((ooc: It's out on the beach and just a general sort of party affair, so feel free to have characters show up even if they're not friends with the birthday girl. It's a free for all. SO YOU BETTER MINGLE OR THERE'S GONNA BE WORDS.

Hooh, I remember you mentioning that. Same theory as the tree-climbing?

In a way. The tree-climbing exercise teaches you to gather a fixed amount of chakra, ant maintain it. Once your cast is off, we should get back to that.

[He turns to walk in front of Masaomi, stopping by the water.] In water-walking, though, you learn to release a constant stream of it.

Cast's due off today, actually. But I didn't want to bug Katarra.

[That said, he stops at water's edge too]

[He raises an eyebrow.] There's other doctors.

[And taking into account the lapping of the waves he steps off a few paces onto the water, turning around so they're still facing each other. Beneath his feet, where the water is clear enough to see it, the sand shows some slight indentations.]

[He studies that though. Is he pushing something to the bottom?]

[He rolls his eyes.] You just want her to be the one to do it.

[Anyone else would pick another medic, if it meant getting the cast off already. But explanation time now.]

Skipping that, based off what I told you, how do you think this works?

[...] Some sort of chakra charge repelling against the water in a constant stream. Not sure if it's going all the way to the bottom or just on the surface of the water. [But he goes to crouch here, watching]

[Very close. Shikamaru shifts his feet again now, standing over where the ground is uneven thanks to some broken seashells. The indentations in the sand from before are washed smooth by the ocean as soon as he moves.]

So it is to the bottom? [...He's trying to observe this. The waves are getting in the way]

Yup. That's the challenge in learning it. Unlike with the tree-climbing exercise, the amount of chakra you have to release fluctuates.

[But by the time you get used to it, it's so second-nature that you have to concentrate just to release the technique. That might be reflected when Shikamaru steps away from the broken shells but doesn't quite drop his feet to the sand for a few seconds after.]

Ninja have so much spacial awareness, jee-shaa... [He sighs and watches this, smirking to himself as he tries to banish the taste of that cookie from his mouth]

[Aang and Katara's dance should be done by now, at least.]

That might give us an edge. But it's not like you're lacking in that department, exactly. [Usually, anyways. 8|] You may be able to pick it up quick enough, when we get to it.
