Beach Party!?

Who: Anyone who wants to come!
What: BEACH PARTY! (For Katara or something)
When: In the evening, about 7PM
Where: On the beach! Somewhere!
Summary: It's Katara's 17th and while all friends of Team Avatar are invited, anyone else can gatecrash too.
Rating: E for everyone (for God's sake there's going to be seven year olds!)

[A few days before the birthday, Katara's housemates began birthday preparations. Not quite entirely secret, but they made invitations, told friends, spread the word, and so on. Birthday on the beach. Be there or be a loser McButtface without friends.

And so there's a party! With tables! And chairs! And umbrellas! And the sun is setting, but the Malnosso had no taste and put the ocean on the east side of Luceti, so it's a sunset over the mountains which isn't as cool as an ocean sunset. But anyway. There's a volleyball net and, you know, an ocean to swim in. Also Sokka ordered a generator with his mission points and abducted the karaoke machine. It was mostly to provide some music, but people can get up and sing with it too.

As for the food? There's a table for that. It's a bring your own dish affair, since Katara is kind of their team cook and they can't exactly make her own birthday meal, right? So anyone coming can bring whatever they like and set it out. The gang brought some meals of their own, so there's bound to be some cool dishes from the air nomads, water tribe, and fire nation. And cake. A big chocolate cake. Someone made it! We don't know who. (Feel free to dibs being the baker or something if you want.)

And a table! A table for presents! Bring a present, set it there. It's very organized.]

((ooc: It's out on the beach and just a general sort of party affair, so feel free to have characters show up even if they're not friends with the birthday girl. It's a free for all. SO YOU BETTER MINGLE OR THERE'S GONNA BE WORDS.

Ah, I see. It sounds simple enough, although I imagine it calls for a lot of coordination.

Yeah, but I'm sure we can manage it.

[As they approach the net, Aang lifts the ball out of the sand. He then holds it up to his head in thought.] Now how was he saying that this was different from Kuai Ball? Oh... right, you can't use your feet for this one. Just hands and you can't touch the net.

So volleying the ball... keeping it in motion. Or rather looking for the opponent's weak spot...

[He blinks at the mention of "weak spot" but continues, as he begins to toss the ball around between his hands.]

Yeah, you have to make the other person miss and not miss yourself.

[wise_maiden]

Sounds like a lot of running around is involved.

Yeah, doesn't it sound fun? [He motions to the net] Hey, let's try volleying it around a little!

[wise_maiden]

All right. Did you want to hit it to me first?

[savedtheworld]

Sure! Let's see how you do. [He puts the ball on the ground and lightly kicks it towards her, then he gets himself ready on one side of the net.]

[And she heads to the other side of the net to properly... volley it back to him. Was there a correct way for this? For now she'll just try to get it high up enough in the air to try to make sure it goes over the net.

... And the first attempt goes into the net. Lets try that again.]

[Aang looks on supportively and calls out to her.]

It was a good start, Raine! Maybe there's a better way to hit it.

[wise_maiden]

[She walks over to the net, mentally replacing the track of the ball as she moves to retrieve it. Lets see, it's almost like science, isn't it?]

My aim needs to be higher, and the velocity enough to propel it over to you. Hmm.

[She walks back toward her spot, shifting the weight of the ball in her hands a few times, then tries again, giving it the same aim but this time hitting it from underneath. It manages to barely clear the net, but will Aang be able to return it?]

[Aang tries to just nod along with the her analysis; if Raine's saying it, it must make sense. Aang wasn't expecting the ball to land so close to the net. He tries to slide forward through the sand quickly, but he just barely misses it.]

That was better! Now it's my turn.

[wise_maiden]

It sounds better in theory. I just need more practice. [But she nods, waiting for Aang to get himself into position.]

Then it's a good thing we're practicing right now!

[He grinned and got into position with the ball in hand, then he thrust it forward with his hand as if he were Airbending. Being used to airball left him somewhat experienced with tossing a ball around, although it went unusually high before coming down towards the middle of Raine's court.]

[wise_maiden]

[The height of the ball almost causes her to miss it completely. But she'll get a good jump on it by the time it lowers enough, leaping in the air and spiking the ball down toward Aang's side.]
