Summary: Just your average worlds colliding.

So... meanwhile, back at the ranch, there were opportunities for those who have caught their journals to know who's coming, and those who have not caught their journals to be taken by surprise at the new Water Tribe member in the house.

[She chuckles warmly at that.

...though the feeling that there are mountains they're avoiding discussing looms a little closer.]

[He accompanies her chuckle with some warm belly laughs to keep said mountains at bay, to escape in their shared laughter. Even if it won't last. He hopes to return from this laughter to find all of their problems magically disappeared.]

[Laughter subsiding, Katara just takes a moment to enjoy this moment. Everyone's safe and relatively at peace. She's sitting by the river in the moonlight with Aang. There are things that she knows she needs to address, but right now, for this moment, she's just going to live in this moment.]

[Aang holds onto this moment as well. This is the same river where Katara had to realize that Aang was Robin and where she believed she was dying. It felt like a karmic voctory, if a temporary one, for them to be laughing there.

At the least, it helped him to realize how far they've come in just a few months. Heputs a hand on her shoulder.]

At least... things are okay right now, we're all okay... right?

[Even if there was still someone here he couldn't help. Even with his energy bending.]

[She feels him put his hand on her shoulder, and she doesn't pull away. In fact, she closes her eyes.]

Yeah. Right now, everyone's all okay.

[He lets that thought fill him. everyone's all okay. He tries to see the future as a fog that he doesn't have to explore yet - both his future back home with his early demise, and the future here where experiments, drafts and new arrivals could threaten their family life.

He keeps himself in the present. He's here. He has a family. Katara's right in front of him and okay.

With these thoughts driving him, improving his mood, he turns the shoulder hold into a hug.]

That's good.

[Well, this is Katara. She's not going to turn down hugs. She's glad he's feeling better, and she lets herself take comfort from that while intending to keep the embrace characteristically brief.]

[We're gonna be apart one day. But we're both here now. He speaks quietly.]

Thanks for all of this, Katara. I'm glad that yo- no, I'm not glad that you're here. But I'm glad that, since you are, that we're both here at the same time.

[Aang holds on tightly, but he's ready to release when Katara is.]

Me too, Aang. [She pulls away then and looks at him a little hesitantly.]

I really did miss you.

[Even if she isn't... where the future says she should be. Where it would be more convenient for her to be. She does care for him so much, it shakes her.]

I know. [Even if he also knows that his being here and the exposure of his future with her has caused her no amount of stress. That's why he feels he has to let her know what a great influence she is.]

You're always so understanding, Katara. Just like that one time back in the cave, you were there for me and took in everything that was bothering me, a-and you're okay with it even if I think I'm wrong or selfish. I don't think I'd be able to last here this long without you. I'm not that strong.

I don't know, Aang. I think you're a lot stronger than you think.

[But on that note:]

...I know everything's been so busy, but - have you had a chance to talk with Roku?

[About the You-Know-What?]

[He gives a sheepish shrug at her first statement, but he tenses once Roku is brought up. He knows the subject already.]

We talked right after he returned. [Pause] He hasn't started learning to control the Avatar State, yet.

[...well, that's discouraging. But not hopeless.]

But did he mention anything else? Any other way of doing it - even just something he'd heard?

He... he heard of one way, but he didn't hear enough to know if it was different.

[She shifts a little to look directly at him.]

But we know you have to, right? I mean

--there's grandchildren and all. And you wouldn't have gone that long without learning to control it.

[He meets her eyes uncertainly. Even though I won't live that long.]

It... it sounds like I might find another way, at home, in my future. I have to be able find a way to have both, but... I just don't know what I'm supposed to do. And... that last chakra is only getting scarier. Now that they're here, I... I feel like I just have so much. [He shakes his head.]

I'm still not entirely sure how you got it back. I thought that chakra was blocked. Maybe... whatever loosened it up also loosened the chakra enough that you could at least control coming out of it?

[Because from what Sokka and Toph had told her about the final battle against Ozai, she knows you didn't kill him. There's got to be only one reason for that - you were able to bring yourself out of it. Right?]

[He looks towards the river and tries to gather his memories.]

It was when I was fighting Ozai, and he had me cornered. I was able to repel his fire with Earthbending, but he was quickly overpowering me. And... when he pushed me back some jagged rock got caught in my scar. That... it kinda fixed that chakra I guess. It's so hard to describe, but... suddenly the Avatar State was... it was like it was restarting again.

Everything happened so fast, but I wasn't really in control anymore. The Avatar State was still trying to kill him, even though I had learned the other way. Energy bending. I... I was only able to pull myself out at the last moment, just as I was about to- to end him. It took all the willpower I had.

But you did pull yourself out.

Maybe you just need to practice? Right now entering the Avatar State is still a protective measure for you. But if you were able to find a way to do it on purpose...

[Then maybe you could leave on purpose too.]

Maybe you're right, Katara. If I was a good Avatar, I should have already been thinking about that and trying to train myself like that since the war ended. I guess I was just convincing myself that our problems were over and I wouldn't have to be in the Avatar State again. Maybe... maybe that's why it's seemed easier for me to lose control, too.

[He readies himself to disclose the one Avatar State she hadn't been told about.]

What are you talking about, Aang?

I'm sorry. I didn't tell you, but... when Zuko tried to fight us at Yu Dao... I panicked. I was afraid that this was the time. That he really forgot what we were fighting for and that it was time to live up to my promise. I... I entered the Avatar State. But it only lasted a few minutes.

[He looks back at Katara, but now with a face full of shame.]

You were right there. You calmed me down again.

["Please, Sweetie. For me."]
