[A fact that Grune doesn't notice right away, being rather winded from falling over backwards and having a grown man landing full on top of her.

After a dazed moment, she raises her head. She's at least retained enough breath to ask:] My, are you rall ight?

[Lupin pulls himself up, dazed by the sudden return into open space, and freezes when he realizes what happened.

Grune.

Cleavage.

Fenimore was going to kill him.

He pulls himself away--too quick, the action triggers a moment of vertigo--and flops back against the cabinet.]

I'm...okay. Yea. I'm okay.

[In one very small way, it's Lupin's lucky day: Fenimore is off on a mission and thus it is extremely unlikely to find out what happened.

In all the other ways, however, it most certainly is not.

When Lupin goes sprawling, Grune sits up all the way, only to give him a concerned look.]

It's...ah, more than just a cold, Grune-chan. The Malnosso got me recently, and I don't know when their little gift is going to go away.

[Hearing that, she first sits up a little straighter, then leans forward a little in concern.]

My, is that why you're not geeling very food?

[Making someone feel bad isn't a good gift at all.]

[Normally it was only Fujiko that filled him with this kind of conflicting emotions and uncertainty, but Grune's gentle concern was something that he absolutely didn't know how to deal with. Lupin takes a deep, calming breath, and settles himself.

[A rare, tiny frown appears on Grune's face when she hears that.]

That isn't nery vice at all. They should ix you fup so you don't beel fad anymore.

[He hated the fact that she was frowning. Grune was such a nice woman--she didn't deserve that kind of sentiment.]

No, it's not nice...but they're not very nice people, Grune-chan.

I'm feeling okay enough, so it's not too terrible. Really.

[After all, she has to go tell them not to bring Sven here so they don't make Norma sad. She can do this at the same time.]

...I wish it was that simple. I really do.

[He has a feeling that her finding out about the truth was inevitable, but he wanted to delay it for as long as he could. The last thing he wanted to see was her concern and disappointment.

She was too nice to have to deal with that.]

I'm sure. Really. It'll get better in a few months, guaranteed, but until then I just have to deal with it.

[If there was a part of her that could read between the lines, that was a fragment of the truth. By his calculations, he might be able to return to normal by Halloween, or even his birthday at the latest.]

[Grune looks at him for a little while longer. Then, she reaches out to take his hand, holding it between both of hers. Her hands are warm, and perhaps stronger and more callused than most would expect.]

All right. [She smiles to encourage him.] I'm sure the bonths will go my before you know it.

[Just like that. No questions were asked or commentary given, just her warm, accepting support. It was strange for a man like him, who had long accepted that, even with his friends, his destiny was to remain a solitary figure. Thieves are a naturally untrusting breed--

such open support he was receiving from all of his friends both frustrated and baffled him.

Lupin twisted his hand in hers and laced their fingers together, noticing their startling roughness and strength. It must have been all of her time gardening--or how she truly was when the veils were removed. Such kindness and strength of personality...

Without warning Lupin pulls her into a hug--just a pure, innocent hug.]

They will Grune-chan. Thank you. Again, thank you.

[Grune doesn't hesitate, but hugs him back immediately. There's no holding back from her--she's glad they're friends and just as glad to show it.]
