[Sokka is no firebender, but he's able to hurl a burst of flames that way. Enough to light it. Though it throws him off for a second and a spider latches onto his shoulder. He quickly rips it off and then crushes it with his boot.

Another one comes flying towards him and he sends it flying as his sword hits it with the flat side of the blade. They're thinning the numbers, at least. There can't be that many more.]

[They are doing an admirable job clearing off the several foot-long-spiders when, from out of the darkness, crawls the mother spider. It is nearly half of Katara's height.]

Sokka--

[And she doesn't hesitate, but - oh that is disgusting -rips a slice of sharp water up through several of the babies and towards the mother.]

[markofthewise]

... mommy. Of course.

[Mommy may be half Katara's size, but that's just in height. In overall size, it's as big as they are. Maybe bigger. And with insect strength, stronger too. Sokka manages to off another baby spider before he puts himself between his sister and the mama. He manages to get a few cuts in, but she's too big and too fast for him to remove any legs. And she's advancing on him.]

[Yeah, well. Maybe this ice will slow it down, since she's moving now to freeze it to the ceiling. That should take care of at least half its legs - fortunately she's used to fighting people a lot faster than she is.]

[markofthewise]

[This looks like a job for boomerang. Rather than try to risk stabbing it before it breaks free, Sokka sends his boomerang flying. It shatters the ice, and the legs in them, and sends the creature falling to the ground, upside down. Even missing some legs, it will take a moment for it to right itself.]

[Right, good. So she can take the water from those served legs, turn it into ice spikes, and hit spider on its side.]

[All that's left is to finish it off. Which Sokka does as he drives the sword through the spider's head.

The tiny spiders, realizing what happened, start to scatter in fear.]

[And then Sokka pulls his sword out and looks at his sword, blanching at the sight of it.]

Bleeaaauchh. Spider guts!

[markofthebrave]

I hate this so. much.

[And that is why she gathers all her remaining water and uses it to go after the scattering spiders.]

[markofthewise]

[Sokka takes one out with boomerang before they disappear out of sight. But it's not quite with the same anger she has.]

If we run into another one of those things, this experiment is definitely going in the top ten.

[And that's why you don't piss Katara off right after she woke up. And had to tromp all around town in bare feet and pajamas.

She finishes up.]

I think that's the last of them.

[And she streams the water - hopefully just the water and not the ichor - into her waterskin. To be honest, she's still pissed off, so she's not bothering to separate her water from the ickiness.]

[Yup. His sister is scary when she's not happy. For Sokka's part, he'll grumble at his sword before deciding to wipe it clean on his pants first.]

I think I found our way forward too. [There's a key lying beside where the mother spider fell. Sokka picks it up.]

Ew.

[That spider and just... ew.]

[markofthewise]

[Life. Life is hard when you're small. And you don't want to have to clean spider guts out of your sword's sheath.]

Well it's quiet now at least, right?

[The door isn't too far away now. Sokka picks up his torch and heads on over to it. The door is, indeed, locked. He unlocks it.]

Did you really just say that?

[You. Did you really just say that?

Katara picks her way through the spider guts as best she can. Guess what, this sucks in bare feet.]

Point. [He pushes the door open to see what's on the other side. Already he can hear the sound of what sounds like rushing water. How promising.]

On the plus side, if we don't teleport? I'm definitely washing my hands.

...that really makes me want to hold hands with you now.

Hey, not all of us can attack enemies with our minds. The rest of us just get messy.

[She can grab his shoulder or something. He's standing by the door waiting.]

[markofthebrave]

I don't use my mind.

[And grabbing hold of his shoulder is exactly what she does.]

Oh good. You've finally admitted it.

[Said with all too big a grin as they step into the next room.

As he said, there's rushing water here. A wild rushing river, strong and powerful. There's no door on the other side, so it looks like they'll have to ride the strange platforms that keep emerging from below the water to ride their way through.]

[And that would be when she removes her hand from his shoulder and uses it to thwap him up the backside of the head.]

[markofthewise]

[You know what? Worth it. (And his ponytail totally cushioned it too. Score.) Sokka rubs the back of his head as he steps forward to check out the river while trying to peer ahead. And heck, bend down and wash his hands.]

Well. I guess we're going for a ride.

[markofthebrave]

[But Katara doesn't proceed. Instead her eyes are wide. And she appears to be frozen there, at the entrance.]

Sokka?

[markofthewise]

[He turns back to her, waving his hands dry in front of him.]

What's wrong?

[markofthebrave]

I can't feel the river.

[Or the water in her canteen. Or in the air. Or... anything. It was like stepping into this room had sapped her bending right out of her.]
