It could be fun. I just hope it doesn't take too much time when I want to send a message...

I'm sure you'll work it out, eh. Have a little faith in yourself. And if worse comes to, you'll just have a good reason to practice in advance.

Yes! I will find the voice commands, and I will practice them! I'm lucky that Luceti makes me talk, or I wouldn't be able to use them very well.

Same here. It makes being a phoenix a lot easier I have to admit.

You can't normally talk in phoenix form? Puu, that's no fun. Must make you have to shift in and out a lot.

Not usually, the shape of my beak is too stork-like rather than a parrot. But I can switch in whatever I want so it's not usually as big an issue... but it is definitely a nice thing about here. It almost makes up for how much harder it is to shift in this place, since like you said, it means I don't need to shift as much.

It's harder to shift here? Right... people's powers are cut down. Some of my powers are cut down, too. But I've been fine without them so far!

A little. It's mostly harder for me to heal, but aye. [Nods his head.]

Which of your powers are cut, or have they just not come up?

Um... it's a special magical protection that Mama gives all of us. It keeps nasties away from us and keeps us from getting too hurt. I haven't really needed it since coming here, though, so I guess I'm okay!

Eh? What kind of nasties?

Um... like... monsters and things like that. Oh, and bad magic! We're safe against bad magic too. So lots of things that could hurt us are kept away, basically.

That's handy. She sounds like a really nice goddess, eh? Can she still protect you a world away?

Yeah, Mama is really nice! But... she's not able to protect us from a world away. That's why we can take our protective magic with us.

Understood. Good thing it hasn't been needed either, eh?

Yes, a very good thing! I don't know what I'd do if I got into trouble here...

I guess that's what the journal's for, eh? Asking for help.

Oh, yes, definitely! If I get into trouble, I can just call someone and they'll help! I didn't quite think of it that way.

[Laughs.] Admittedly I tend to use it in reverse, but it's almost as handy as having den den mushi. With the added benefit that everyone's got one.

Puu? What's a den den mushi? Sounds like you have another thing to explain.

Den den mushi are psychic snails hooked up with some mechanics and then used to talk to each other in my world. We use them like the journals, but sending pictures and visual feed is more difficult. Likewise, they're a lot harder to lock and easier to intercept.

The lone marine we have here must really miss them. [Haha screw marines.]

Psychic... snails? Puu, that really sounds like something. The journals seem more convenient than snails, though.

Aye, they are convenient; more direct, but less personable. Den den mushi are quite friendly, eh.

Oh? Puu, that's good then. I was imagining you having to hunt them down and chase them around and other trouble.

[Laughs.] What kind of snails have you met? In my world they're almost sedentary. That's why they developed those psychic abilities. Otherwise, they'd never be able to communicate with each other, eh?
