Player Event - Chaos Plot

Who: Helios and pretty much everyone who replied to this post
What: The demon god Apep which affixed itself to Helios’ soul has awoken.
When: August 6th-9th
Where: Starting around house 44 then mainly around town and the woods
Summary: Basically Helios gets possessed and causes all sorts of chaos and destruction that the evil god, Apep, is known for causing!
Rating: R for lots of violence

[ It’s strange how the twist of events of a simple evening walk could change much of everything. In an instant, that was Luceti’s way of things, changing things in an instant. And Helios never even saw it coming. There were still parts of that night and parts of his soul that he never truly understood. But there were always ways of finding out. They say hands on experience is one of the best ways of learning. And this is a lesson he and several others won't soon forget. ]

[ A laugh escapes him as he all but gives Raine a scornful look. Red eyes flashing angrily behind his glasses. The lack of color not bothering the god very much anymore. It took some getting used to but he had now. The phantom snake looming up behind Helios flicks its tongue as if eying prey. It occurs to him that Helios hasn't told them about him. He hasn't told anyone about him. It sparks a faint ember of anger in the snake god. Trying to conceal him how dare he...

Another vicious laugh as Apep moves forward again. ] Oh nothing has happened. I'm feeling perfectly fine. As much as possible, really. It's been quite some time since I've been out. This body is...suitable for my needs of course. But there's always room for more power. [ And here he'll give his newly possessed body an affirmative appeased look. His red eyes go to Raine then. She does have a good bit of energy to take. ] Helios isn't as strong in this place as I recollect. The memories get a bit jumbled.

[The signs of him not being Helios are very clearly revealed, in his voice, eyes, and that very evident presence behind him. A lot to process. She keeps her calm, and responds when he finishes speaking.]

The barrier dampens our usual abilities here, if that's what you're noticing. Is there a reason why you're here, and not Helios?

[ A smirk one not entirely twisted as he looks over at Raine. There's clear contempt in his eyes as well as a condescending look. ] What an annoyance.

[ Still there was no helping it for now. He would have to gather more energy then. His eyes flicker with amusement at the question. ] I have always been here. And I shall always remain affixed to that pathetic man. Who knew that a young child could reawaken me like so?

[ Another laugh as he closes his eyes and shakes his head. ] What a strange world this is.

[A young child... she doesn't like the sound of that, even if it is vague.]

... I think I understand. You've been watching things through his eyes for a while. Being on the outside must be a different experience for you, especially if you aren't used to that body.

[ Apep gives a snort as he looks a bit more glaringly at Raine. ]

And what concern it is of yours? You have nothing of use to me, aside from a bit of...power. [ And here he'll smile Helios' features contorting into something uncommon and twisted for his typical look and expression. He'll take a few steps closer then the expression never leaving his face and his eyes hungry for whatever it is they see in Raine. ]

[Raine's expression shifts as well as he steps closer, from neutral to clearer signs of distrust, still calm-seeming on the surface as she takes a few steps back.] My concern is with Helios, and any power that I may have is not for you. I advise you to keep your distance.

[ Another odd laugh as he continues to move forward his eyes never wavering off of his intended target. ] Helios is no more. You will have no other business with him as long as I am around.

[ And then the figure before her shimmers and disappears. An ice cold hand will then grip Raine's shoulder in a vice like grip. ] I am not afraid of you Raine Sage. You have no powers to which I need to fear.

You --

[But the time for conversation is past. She instead turns her attention to struggling to get out of that grip, or possibly swinging her staff around with her free hand to hit him with it. But it's not a good angle.]

[ And with a fluid motion, not very characteristic to Helios' figure, Apep jumps backwards before that staff has a chance to hit him. He'll sneer at her but come at her once more hand outstretch as if the grab her by the arm and twist that staff out of her grip. ]

[It won't be too easy for him - Raine does have some dexterity to her, and she'll do her best to jump backwards to try and get away from him. If he's faster than she is, however, he has a good chance of eventually succeeding in that attempt.]

[ Apep lets out a laugh as she manages to dodge him once. How fun! You're actually giving him some work for his meal. He doesn't stop advancing on her though and with a quick flick on his wrist a wall of stone erupts around them blocking one path of escape. ]

[The suddenness of the wall cutting off her planned escape route is jarring. As quick as her reflexes are, she can't exactly out-speed those movements of his. But she will make him work, as she attempts to seize an opportunity of her own by attempting to trip him up with a small burst of earth magic from below his his feet.]

[ Apep does trip when Raine uses that Earth magic but it doesn't stop in his advance towards her. It only makes him angrier actually. He mimics her attack and has a myriad of spikes shoot out of the ground towards her. ]

[She stumbles and barely manages to jump back when the spikes suddenly shoot toward her, narrowly escaping being impaled but at the same time ending up back at that problem with the wall. She tries something else - attempting to send a bright light toward his eyes in the hopes of temporarily stunning or blinding him. But her angle isn't perfect, with the stumble, and trying to avoid further spikes.]

[ Helios' death penalty doesn't help when it comes to bright lighting and Apep is reeling from the suddenness of it. A loud angry shout and rumbling hiss erupts from him as he holds up an arm and hand to block out the powerful light. He stops momentarily in his advances forward. The shadows on the floor however continue to slither and move through across the ground towards Raine though. ]

[He's stopped - Raine tries to find an opportunity in that to look for a new route of escape, but she doesn't realize the shadows until they've practically caught up to her. Quickly, she attempts to use more light magic -- but there's almost no time to gather enough energy for a spell without being caught first.]

[ The shadows liquify into existence as nothing more than black oozing tar like snakes that slither across the ground and try to grab at Raine's arms and ankles. Their main objective is to pin or down her so that Apep can steal her energy. And it's only when the light dims down enough that he'll growl and snarl in agitation. He does like a good fun game before hand but this was growing to be tiresome. As if on cue black ice will form in spears before him and he'll grab one, dashing forward he'll take aim to try and pin Raine down. ]

[Once the shadows condense around her, Raine's concentration for that last spell attempt is shoved aside as she has to instead struggle to free herself.

She still attempts to keep her arms moving - her staff might be the only thing getting in the way of the approaching god, and she's going to keep fighting to keep hold of it for as long as she can. Which not be very long, when the shadows combined with his rush toward her cause her to lose her balance.

With a growing realization of horror that she had been fighting to keep back, she realizes that she's stuck, quite literally - and there's no one around to help her out of this.]

Let me go. [That's all she has, unless she can distract him, unless she can reach through to Helios somehow- she had been in this situation too many times to not try.] Let us both go.

[ The tendrils only tighten in their grip around Raine and Apep is all but deaf to her pleas. They get a laugh out of him, true, but aside from that there's nothing keeping him from continuing his approach. Apep shakes his head his sword at his side. Killing this one wouldn't work because of the potential energy he could take from her now. ] No.

[ One word said in an eerie stone cold voice. His hand will go to her shoulder then the grip vice like as Raine begins to feel her energy being drained. ] Helios is no more there is nothing you can do to bring him back.

Let him go. I don't believe that -- what are you --

[Her words trail off as the affects of the draining begin to take their toll. That sense of imbalance, as her energy, her mana, the very warmth of life were drawn toward where his hold on her shoulder tightened, being drawn to that point and then -- through and away from her, stolen --

Dizziness swept in, her vision growing spotty, as she still struggled against him, though she could already feel the weakness in her limbs.]

[ Apep simply laughs as Raine's struggles become less and less. All that raw, life, energy. It was quite delicious to him and it would serve him well for his...purposes.

He makes to grab her around the neck but there is always someone around, perhaps to stop his further advances. As it were though, Apep will drain Raine till she's barely alive if no such being stands up to help her. ]

[As it happens, there is someone around. Just the other day, Canti had been asked to help with scouting for the welcome center; he had started wandering at night so as to familiarize himself with more of Luceti. It was only by coincidence that he stumbled upon this scene.

Nevertheless, he gets between the demon god and his victim as quickly as he can. He's not much of a fighter, not like this but he should be able to at least get Raine out of here. He grabs Apep's incoming hand and drags it to the side, hoping to unbalance him, maybe even long enough to ensure escape.]

[By the time the interruption does arrive, the draining had gone on long enough to leave Raine significantly unbalanced, her opponent only growing stronger as she grew weaker, her struggles waning. She can't tell how much energy she's lost, but it's not easy to think, or even register that there might be an opportunity to try and get out of his hold.]

[ Apep snarls at the random intrusion on his actions. His red eyes flare with unbriddled anger as he wrenches his hand out of Canti's grip. The snake lets out a loud angry hiss, snapping its jaws at the robot. Apep for once looks a bit surprised at this creature before him. It didn't seem like much but there was...something there, within it, a very great and old power. ]Dare to interfere! Step aside creature.

[ A black sword made out of the very shadows forms in his hand as he takes another step forward. ]

[Canti doesn't step aside, but he does step back and to the left, blocking Raine completely. There's a set to his shoulders as he spreads his arms to block her further that says that he will not back down. Inside, Atomsk is raging in all his firebird glory, but he can't get out. Canti agrees, though -- this is wrong.]
