Player Event - Chaos Plot
Who: Helios and pretty much everyone who replied to this post
What: The demon god Apep which affixed itself to Helios’ soul has awoken.
When: August 6th-9th
Where: Starting around house 44 then mainly around town and the woods
Summary: Basically Helios gets possessed and causes all sorts of chaos and destruction that the evil god, Apep, is known for causing!
Rating: R for lots of violence
[ It’s strange how the twist of events of a simple evening walk could change much of everything. In an instant, that was Luceti’s way of things, changing things in an instant. And Helios never even saw it coming. There were still parts of that night and parts of his soul that he never truly understood. But there were always ways of finding out. They say hands on experience is one of the best ways of learning. And this is a lesson he and several others won't soon forget. ]
((ooc; Okay plot is a go! If anyone doesn’t have an out for their character to be saved please PM me or contact me on plurk at pathogenic~ Otherwise have fun!))

[Damn it, the soldier was using her flames to corral her into a figurative corner. If the heat constantly darting for her face and hands wasn't enough those exploding fireballs were both painful and blinding. With a snarl Sabriel takes her chances and dives towards the fire and their source, fog sword slicing through the nearest explosion as she breaks through the wall of fire and runs to close the distance between herself and Mars, her sword held high.]

[But in her concern for her friend, in focusing on doing no more harm than absolutely necessary, Grune did not consider that it might not be wise to use a Curse element spell against a practitioner of black magic.
An orb of dark light as wide as she is tall spins into being around Sabriel, swallowing her and only her--Mars and Viral are perfectly safe thanks to the friend-or-foe marking Grune has placed on them.
Before she begins casting again, Grune waits for the dense darkness to fade so she can see the effect her spell has had on Sabriel.]

A dim figure, long and serpentine uncurls from around her shoulders with a soft, angry hiss. It's a low sound, almost inaudible except as a vibration in the air but the hate it exudes is clear. One moment the force of both of the women's spells are overwhelming her and the next...]

Was that supposed to hurt? Let me show you how it's done.
[Her voice sounds raspy and harsh, less human as the Free magic grows inside of her, fed by the corruption. Smoke pouring from her lips as speaks her spell she draws her sword in a circle around her head, a ring of dark fog lingering in the air before she finishes the spell with a slash of her sword; dark tendrils shoot from the dark halo like spikes, aiming for the two women.]

With a snarl he pushed himself forward at the sounds of fire and the scent of battle. The heated ions in the atmosphere and the associated memories sharpened his senses...he recognized that dissonantly calm voice amid the chaos.
Grune.
Grune and Mars.
Another snarl. Viral snatched his bow and a handful of bolts, intent on making his presence known. This needed to end. Now. Still light headed, he dove for the fray and threaded his arrow--
Aimed straight for Sabriel's turned back.]
Sabbi. [His voice was low, harsh, but eerily cool. It was almost as if the last several desperate hours hadn't existed for just one second.]
You forgot something.
[He loosed his bolt with a prayer that his judgement wasn't wasted.]

When she saw Sabriel stand up from her spell, not only unharmed but somehow strengthened and made less of herself by it, she had immediately begun her next. Her Curse eres won't work--she needs something else.
She chooses a spell that is stronger by only a little as Sabriel brings her sword about. She's only barely aware of the magic plunging towards her, of Viral's movement and hard and ragged voice. All of her attention is focused inwards as light the brilliant, shining blue of the ocean rises from the ground at her feet.]

You want to hurt? Fine!
[Her hands worked furiously, symbols of flame forming in the air as she chanted, holding aloft one of the ofuda scrolls she'd brought.]
Rin, Pyou, Tou, Sha, Kai, Jin, Retsu, Zai, Zen! Akuryu Taisan!
[The paper stiffens, and flies towards the Abhorsen...set to strike in concert with Viral's arrow and Grune's spell!]

Viral was free and armed, Rei was quietly chanting and building up power for some sort of spell and Grune...for a moment she freezes as her senses pick up on the sheer power gathering in the water of the quiet woman's spell. What on earth was the woman preparing to unleash?
At Rei's shout Sabriel turns to face...a strange piece of paper. Expecting another burst of fire it comes as a nasty shock when it shoots across the gap between necromancer and warrior and affixes itself to her forehead. Immediately, Sabriel's body locks up under its bind; a breath of surprise passes through her lips before it bursts into flames.
She couldn't move, couldn't try to defend herself as the fire caught on the Free magic corruption that ran rampant in her but she could still cry out in pain.]

Now, as Sabriel's body is bound, Grune brings her spell to a close.]
Aqua Laser.
[All magic on Melfes has its source in the blessings of its god--Nerifes, the great ocean. Even in Luceti, its power extends and works through the people of that world. Curse eres are in opposition to the god, and they cause great harm to its chosen people, the Ferines.
Sea eres, by contrast, could be argued to be the purest expression of Nerifes' blessing. Their element is not only water, but light.
At Grune's words, spoken not quite as calmly as before, a wave of water six feet high bursts from the floor, unaffected by the surrounding flames. It rushes from Grune, passing through Mars without touching her, and slams into Sabriel, and it is swiftly followed by a second, equally powerful wave.
This time, Grune does not wait to begin casting again.]

They had a chance now to make sense of this.
But the scream was just too late to stop Grune's divine wave, nor enough to stop the mage from casting again.
Drawing on the last of his reserves, Viral rushed her. His legs, though wobbly, carried him across the field with inhuman speed. He wasn't going to hurt her--if they fell, he would twist and cushion her. But action needed to be taken.]
Grune--STOP!!

When the second wave hits, the sparks take to the water as if it were oil and this time when the wave engulfs her, a bright golden fire flares into life under the water. Though muffled by the water, it's all Sabriel can do to scream. This time however, it tears out of her in two distinct voices. The first is the rough, hissing cry of the evil spirit that had been possessing her but under that is the weak and painfully human scream of Sabriel. The purifying fire dances for only moments in the water of the wave before the spell breaks and Sabriel's body falls limply to the ground.
In the wake of the magic the shadow of the serpent appears again, curled tightly around her neck, her eyes, its head pinned in place under the ofuda scroll. Hood flared it glares at them all with a deep, burning hatred.]

Stay back. I need quiet so I can cleanse this evil.
[She takes a meditative posture, holding her hands over the Abhorsen, her fingers moving in complex and arcane gestures. She chants low, her voice deep and humming, almost like a song. Sabriel's paralyzed form begins to shake and stutter, the dark serpent hissing and spitting, trying to regain control and break its shackles. The magic scrolls glow a brilliant silver, a mandala of archaic kanji appearing on the ground around them. Mars continues chanting, her voice rising in pitch. Silver fire glows all around them, rising high into the evening sky.
An earsplitting wail rent the air as Apep's serpent was torn from Sabriel's soul, several of the ofuda scrolls sliding up the fallen girl's cheeks, wrapping around the ghastly creature, constricting it. As it rose a few inches out of its host, Mars opened her eyes and slammed her hands together in a thunderous clap, crushing the evil between her palms. Her veins coursed with a dark light, an eerie blue-black tracing along them, racing towards her heart in an attempt to claim a new host. However, the Senshi was prepared for this. She collapses her hands inward, squeezing them into fists, and grunting in pain.
Finally, Mars takes the small wooden box she'd stored in her belt out, and begins retching violently. An inky bile oozes from between her lips, dripping into the box. Coughing and sputtering, she keeps vomiting up globules of taint, until at last she seals the box and wraps it in several more scrolls.]
It...its...done.
[Dazedly, she gives out finally, her clothing shifting back into civilian form. Sure, Grune would know now, but she couldn't keep it up anymore. That was the last of her energy. She was spent]

Of course, being tackled to the ground is certainly another way to stop her from casting.
Even landing atop Viral instead of the hard floor of the lakehouse, Grune lets out a soft, gasped, "Oh!" For only a moment, she lies where she is, disoriented and shaken.
She doesn't understand. She had chosen that spell because she had thought it would stop Sabriel from being badly hurt, and yet instead...it had hurt her so much. It had stopped her--but it had caused her great pain.
There's no time to wonder why, though. When Mars goes to Sabriel's side, Grune rolls off Viral. She then kneels down next to him and holds her hands above him, entirely disregarding the blood that now stains her dress and smears her skin. Her hands soon glow with a far gentler light as she calls upon Nala's magic to heal him. Though she cast only two spells during the fight, she doesn't think she'll be able to cure him all the way, or even most of the way. Healing is relatively new to her; it burns her energy far, far more quickly than her battle eres.]

For a moment she's tempted to linger in the darkness behind her eyelids, to let herself slip into the quiet of unconsciousness when the soft sounds of retching jars her attention. With a surprisingly monumental effort Sabriel finally manages to open her eyes by a fraction, turning her head ever so slightly to stare blearily up at the figure seated next to her. Mars? But what was she-
As the remains of the spell that had bound her soul passes from the warrior's lips to the box the memories come flooding back in a nauseating rush. The fight at House 46- Apep had overpowered her will, her bells...and he had broken her, laughing all the while.
Choking back a sob of pain and fear at the intensity of the memories she squeezes her eyes shut, quietly trembling as she whispers.]
N-no...no...

Reaching down, the miko gathers up Sabriel in her arms as she would a dear friend or a sick child, hugging her tightly. They've just been through hell. Hugging the Abhorsen tightly, Rei calls on Nala, begging the spirit to bind some of the nasty burns and cuts that her friend had suffered while under Apep's tainted influence.
She looks down into the other girls eyes, and smiles weakly, not breaking the embrace.]
Welcome back, Sabriel.
