Player Event - Chaos Plot

Who: Helios and pretty much everyone who replied to this post
What: The demon god Apep which affixed itself to Helios’ soul has awoken.
When: August 6th-9th
Where: Starting around house 44 then mainly around town and the woods
Summary: Basically Helios gets possessed and causes all sorts of chaos and destruction that the evil god, Apep, is known for causing!
Rating: R for lots of violence

[ It’s strange how the twist of events of a simple evening walk could change much of everything. In an instant, that was Luceti’s way of things, changing things in an instant. And Helios never even saw it coming. There were still parts of that night and parts of his soul that he never truly understood. But there were always ways of finding out. They say hands on experience is one of the best ways of learning. And this is a lesson he and several others won't soon forget. ]

[Saori stands under the veil, listening to Harry and Apep's ranting and the mounting sounds of chaos pouring out of the cave. She can feel the arcane melee going on inside, flashes of magic rankling her senses. But still she works, pulling more links through the mandala. This was going to take some time...time she hoped that Harry and Molly had.

The storm raged around the clearing, and her anima mandala flared, growing brighter inside the veil. She was working as fast as she could, and only hoped she would be fast enough.]

Molly was a sensitive, and Harry told her that at times, that could be a great advantage. Well, she'd yet to see it. Safely away - or as safely away as she could be while comfortably maintaining her veils - she was being battered by the magic inside, dark and cruel, and the magic outside, which she could still sense as she covered it. She tried to use that to tune the veil to hide Saori even more precisely, but it was difficult to concentrate.

I sprinted for the outside of the cave. I knew the ice wouldn't slow him down for long, and I was betting he ran faster than me. I mean, I'm pretty fast, but I'm no Jesse Owens.

But I was also betting that, as a god of darkness, the light wasn't his preferred playground. He'd be less potent out here, especially if the Name had disrupted his hold over Helios as I hoped.

So I stumbled out the door just as a black spine tripped me up, sending me sprawling. I tucked and rolled with the fall, and jumped up to my feet again, facing the cave entrance.

"Come on, asshole! You've got some of my magic, and I want it back!"

[Saori's hands continue to work their magic, her anima growing and expanding, a veritable symphony of primal energy flying between her fingertips. A hoary stream of pure mana spiral around in the air, wrapping tighter and tighter around the consecrated chain, words of power glowing like molten silver as it burns into the dark metal. She's over halfway done with her working now, Helios' screams echoing in her ears and hastening her efforts.

Working with this much of her own life's energy isn't without a toll, the goddess's nose actually begins to ooze blood. She's pulling in every last iota of strength she can muster. A god seeking to bind a god is the stuff of legends, the fundamental element of myths. It would not be easy, but the chain was almost done...]

[When "Helios" went for Harry's throat, Molly tensed. She kept her concentration on the veils, but her emotions fluctuated wildly, granting her a temporary surge of power. When Helios instead began, apparently, fighting with Apep, Molly halted her prepared attack. She didn't want to distract Helios if he was fighting this thing. But her hands are clasping her wands tightly now, and she's visualizing what she needs to do in case she needs to bring it into reality.]

There. There it was. A moment of weakness. Helios fighting for control of his body, if only to ask to be put out of his misery.

Of course, this was me we were talking about. I wouldn't kill Helios, because I was too damn stubborn to accept that answer.

No. I'd just use the opportunity for a geeky quote.

"Helios Sprensonne," I began, again letting the power of the True Name roll through my voice.

I finished by letting a hint of Ian McKellan into my voice as I shouted "He did not kill me, and he will not kill you!"

And then, I thought back to every single martial arts lesson Murphy had ever given me, and I reeled back to deliver the best side kick I could manage with my left foot to the left side of his ribcage. One advantage of my height- I can kick a lot higher than most people with a lot less effort.

Now if only it didn't feel like I'd just kicked a cement wall.

[When Apep calls down the lightning, Saori's eyes shoot open, and a cold, calculated smile appears on her face. That fool had dared to impinge upon her domain, calling down thunderbolts from a storm that she had personally created. That was an incredibly stupid thing for him to do, as they suddenly change course, aiming away from Harry and striking a seemingly innocuous patch of ground. However, within the Veil the energy arcs into Saori's chain, which clears the final ring of the ritual circle. The enchantment was complete. It was time to end this. The runes on the chain glowed bright white, a dispelling dweomer meant to break any lingering enchantment Apep might leave on Helios while binding the evil god's movement and power.

Boldly, the thunder goddess strode out of Molly's spell, her hands whirling the chain above her head. The air thrummed with magical power as the Veil dropped due to the god's spellbreaking chain. Thunderheads rumbling in the sky as Saori made her dynamic entry into the fray, sunlight streaming through the clouds, illuminating her from behind like some sort of avenging angel.]

You will not lay a finger on ANY of my friends again, Apep.

[Her voice is peals across the clearing, audible over the storm and the raging magic, while the chain picks up speed...]

This. Is. Over.

[The backlash of having her spell suddenly dispelled almost makes Molly cry out. Blinding pain settles behind her eyes, and she very nearly drops her own veil in response. She bites her lip instead, brows coming together in determination.

Molly knows when it's time to get the hell out of Dodge. Angry goddess vs. angry god? Usually a bit past time.

It's just too bad that Harry is smack in the middle of it all.

She doesn't drop her own veil, though it's become excessively difficult to hold well in the middle of all this rain, requiring her to add another layer on top of it in order to redirect attention as well as maintain invisibility.

She runs right up to him and places an invisible hand on his shoulder, veiling him as well. The pain is far from gone, and the further concentration in using magical energy after it had already been displaced once causes a trickle of blood to dribble out her nose - 'killer headache' doesn't even begin to cover it. But she pushes through.]

Time to go, Harry.

As soon as Saori stepped out of the veil, I felt as much as saw the lightning being channeled away from me, and I couldn't help but chuckle. Calling lightning when he'd already fought a storm god. He could not possibly be that dumb.

But, well, sometimes these types of people really were that dumb. I felt a hand on my shoulder, and then the veil fell over me again, as Apep's attention shifted to Saori. I was all in favor of taking Molly's suggestion and booking, or at least retreating to a safe distance, when I saw the shadows lashing out toward Saori from the trees.

So, rather than do the intelligent thing, I just ran into the shadows in her place, interposing myself between her and the dark tendrils.

[Saori nodded in thanks to Harry and began her assault. She was sick of this snake god inhabiting her friend and it was time for her send it packing. She didn't care about his sword, nor for his vague threats. She'd proven once before that she could best him in martial combat by forcing him to retreat. He'd been injured, she'd gotten away with but a scratch. And a sword against a chain? Laughable.]

I beg to differ, you arrogant fool.

[And then they charged, full tilt at one another. Her whirling chain and his sword of pure midnight flashed in the murky sunlight. Apep's infernal fury was met by Saori's righteous indignation, a clash of divine wills. The lightning she'd absorbed supercharged her movements, and she darted forward as swiftly as a sparrow in flight. She dipped low, diving around his sword and lashed out with her left foot, striking him squarely in the side with a bone-shattering kick. A sickening crunch accompanied the blow, Saori certain that she'd fractured a rib.

Grimly, she skipped backwards, her waist bending backwards at a near perfect right angle, Apep's black blade whisking overhead. And then it was her turn to retaliate with a weapon. The enchanted chain snapped out like a silver viper, smartly wrapping around Apep, its magic clamping down smartly, freezing his movements and locking him up entirely. Divine power poured off the chain, the monumental task of the enchantment completed.

Apep couldn't move, merely speak.]

And now, it ends.

Good news: I could, in fact, intercept the shadows before they hit her. I wasn't entirely sure it would work. Bad news: Turns out, tendrils made of shadow aren't very nice. Though, really, I already knew that from prior experience.

Yes. I know more than one person who attacks people with his shadow. I live an interesting life, okay?

The shadows were writhing over my skin, and they felt rough, abrasive. Almost like snake scales. I had to admire his dedication to concept, even if it did hurt like hell.

One of the tendrils tried for my neck, but I was able to get my hand up before it could strangle me. Somehow I suspected that wouldn't keep me alive for long, and I could feel warm trickles of my own blood from my hand, my legs, and my torso. Luckily, my coat held up to the punishment, because it's a very nice coat and it does that, but this could get ugly pretty fast. Saori had a bigger fish to fry. I did not want Molly coming over and trying to tangle with this. And I couldn't come up with a way out.

I was just making my peace with the fact that I wouldn't know if it had worked until I came back to life in a week when the tendrils suddenly vanished and I fell to the ground with an undignified thud.

"... Ow."

[Harry had told her that being a Sensitive was a gift. It attuned her to the nuances of magic, allowed her to work complex spells with even her power. But all she'd ever seen was the down side. And right now, the down side was that, as Harry left her, he left her right between two warring gods.

Their powers buffeted her, penetrating her awareness, her will, twining themselves around her. She could feel the darkness of Apep's strength, hatred and rage, lashing all around her. She could feel Saori's implacable determination and wild power.

The combination of those powers, the whiplash from Saori breaking her spell, and Harry leaving her there to run towards certain death kicked Molly into survival mode. If all she could do was hold on to her veil and scream where no one could hear her, then that was exactly what she was going to do until she could move.]

[Saori knelt over Apep's prone from, a calculating look on her face. She was beyond his fury, and now had him exactly where she needed him. His indignant roars fell on deaf ears as she began running her fingers up his arms, feeling the dark energy pumping through his veins. It was thick, but nothing she couldn't root out.]

Yes. Me. Remember my face Apep. You have lost, and now you will know what it means to cross the Daughter of Wind and Rain.

[And then she began to tug on the corruption, peeling out the ephemeral strands of blackness like strings. It would be intensely and intentionally painful for Apep, though Helios would feel none of it, her magic partitioning his psyche into Apep and Helios.]

[personal profile] windandrain 2012-08-26 04:38 am (UTC)(link)
[With a malicious look in her eye, the storm goddess tweaks Apep's dark ki, sending a throbbing jolt of intentional pain deep in his core. She's no angel, and she wants him to suffer as he'd made her friends suffer]

I believe that I already have, fool. And if you manage to break free, break you and feed your carcass to the crows. You have my word, I will be watching you.

[Then she plunges her hand deep into Apep's shadowy energy, seemingly reaching into Helios' chest, pulling out fistfuls of glowing black energy. Her hands twist and turn, beginning to tie the squirming mass up with its own tendrils]

Can you feel it? Your essence being bound? How it must hurt...

[personal profile] windandrain 2012-08-26 05:24 am (UTC)(link)
[Saori rips at the bundle of dark energy, snapping more tenebrous hooks that he'd latched into Helios' body, grabbing the strands and tying them tighter and tighter. All the while she compresses the blackness, balling it up like clay, forcing it to shrink. She cannot even imagine the pain he must be feeling, his divine spark being compressed into a goopy ball of black mana.]

Somehow, I doubt that, Apep.

[Then she spits on him, full in the face.]

I wish you everlasting torment. May you suffer in the blackest purgatory for your transgressions.

[With an air of finality, Saori slams the black ball back into Helios' stomach, pressing it into his manipura chakra, wrapping it tightly with the mage's own positive energy to begin. Then she spins a web of her own anima, drawing additional strength from the lightning that Apep had called and from the chain. The storm peaked, lightning exploding across the landscape, thunder almost deafening anyone in the area.

A blinding surge of light erupted from Helios' stomach, and then the ritual was complete. Apep was bound. Saori's shoulders slumped and she fell on to her hands, pressing heavily against the sodden earth.

She was spent...]

[Saori, drained as she was, is still kneeling next to Helios. She turns and looks, offering him a weak, dry smile. Her voice is ragged, panting from exhaustion and overexertion.]
