Where: The open space to the left of CH 4/across from House 39
Summary: So Pepper suckered some people into manual labor. These are the results.
Rating: PG-13, maybe, if someone hits their thumb with a hammer and says bad things.

[She can't hide it; Pepper is ecstatic to take this major step in the art gallery project. The construction marks the point where the idea shifts into reality, and this time? She's responsible for much more than 12% of the baby.

Of course, the good cheer will probably turn into frustration as the building goes on, but what can she do? Other than try to supervise. And yes, Tony, that is Pepper's job, so no attempting to use it as an excuse to slack off. Also part of Pepper's job is providing drinks and food for everyone involved, and making sure there are no major injuries, so expect refreshments and first aid kits on site. And when she's not tending to anyone else's needs or watching Steve and Tony at work for reasons, Pepper might even jump into the fray, attempting a bit of building herself--success remaining to be seen.]

[She's quiet while he speaks, thinking back to what was Steve's true time period. What he was fighting through. Fighting for.]

It is not the size of the dog in the fight, I think is how the saying goes. And while it has been...a long while since that War, Steve. I would like to thank you for wanting to fight.

[Not her world, not entirely, but it meant a great deal to know someone cared.]

I grew up in Normandy, not so very far from the shore.

[It's a slow, tentative gesture but, she reaches over to rest a hand on top of his.]

Thank you. I know my countrymen still give Americans a hard time for most things but I, at least, am grateful.

Yeah, it was this liquid fluid that was injected into me to make me...this. [He motions to himself.]

[He's a little startled when she thanks him, definitely not expecting it. It was so long ago, any gratitude he might have expected in the past he surely didn't expect now. But, it was...nice.] Thank you. I mean, I didn't do it to be thanked or congratulated. But I'm glad my actions helped make a change. I'm glad someone appreciates the efforts we all made.

So all it took was an injection to give you what can be easily described as the body of a Hellenistic interpretation of a Greek god?

[Why were there not more of this injection about? She shrugs off the thought in favor of squeezing his hand, and catches herself. This was more or less how everything went south with Rett. And Steve's from a time earlier still. Merde.]

We have to. Even if we do not always like to remember the sacrifices made to liberate us.

Well more than just one injection. There were about four or five needles that where injected into my arms. For the actual science behind it, you'll have to ask Howard. He was there.

[He doesn't even give signs of noticing the hand squeezing.]

I can tell you for certain that all who have fought and even the ones who die, appreciate that you care. Too many people don't seem to care as much anymore.

Hm. I do owe him a beer, I think. And some questions regarding hot air balloons. A little mundane considering what he probably works with but...[She shrugs, pats his hand once more and takes a sip of her water.]

It's been a long while. People forget, or don't discuss it because it makes them uncomfortable. It's...hard for me not to have thought about it as a child. Travel long enough down the shore of Normandy and you can't help but think of the men that fought and died there.

[A thoughtful silence follows her words. Steve had wanted to visit some of those places when he'd woken up. See if any of it was like he remembered. If they still bore the marks of war he remembered. But he'd never gotten a chance.]

I'm not saying they should have to talk about it. I mean, war isn't exactly a pretty subject topic. I understand why they wouldn't want to relive it. But...it shouldn't be forgotten.

It won't be. It can't be. We've memorials up carved with names in Normandy, America, England. Everywhere the war touched. There hasn't been a conflict like it since- and if there is a loving and kind god, there never will be again.

We can only hope. But, with the way things are going in my world, we might have more to worry about then countries conquering other countries. [Alien races, Norse Gods...yes, the human race has way bigger issues to deal with.]

Well, a couple of weeks before I was brought here, Tony and I had been fending off an alien invasion led by a Norse God by the name of Loki...who happens to be the brother of one of our teammates.

[He falls silent after that, hoping she'll be able to put the pieces together. Also, he wants to give her all the time she needs for all of that to sink in.]

[It takes a long moment before she's able to process what she's been told. None of it makes any manner of sense. Then again it fits a bit with what little she's heard from Tony.]

Norse God?

Yeah. The God of Mischief to be exact.

I am...distantly familiar with the mythology. But that is mythology rather than actuality.

I believed that to at first. But apparently in my world they do very much exist.

My brother knows it better than I do; but from what litle I am able to remember He's not one that would be bested easily.

He wasn't, no. But we had a lot of help. [Not quite as much help as Loki did, but they still won.]
