Prescribed Recreation part 3: Chillax'n with a Vengeance

What: Movie night on the beach
When: September 9th, in the evening
Where: The Beach
Summary: After an unfortunate tussle with a Chaos God, work on a farm, a swarm of refugees and stress piled upon stress, sometimes all anyone wants is to sit back and watch classic movies.
Rating: PG for possible adult language
Something that everyone could agree on was this: the past three weeks had been several shades of stressful. What they needed, what they all needed was something mindless and relaxing shared in the company of those they care for in a neutral environment. The beach works well enough, and it's not that far a trip for anyone involved.

It's no problem. [He accepts what Helios is willing to give over, and follows when the other man goes.] So who's your small friend there?

[folklorist]

Oh! You mean Luminair? [ Helios smiles happily as Luminair gives a little chirp of his own. ] He's a dragon a friend got f-for me, with those m-mission points. She got him a-after putting an auto-repair on the boat.

[ Speaking of which, he should probably go and check on the MAV. It's been awhile. ]

Yes. He's adorable.

Is your ship the schooner moored out there? [He already knows it is - he makes it his business to know what happens down here, and besides, he's aware of who owns the other boats (and ship) around here.] She's a lovely boat.

[folklorist]

O-Oh! Yes it is. I-I admit I...have been a bit preoccupied as of late. I haven't really given her th-the attention or care she probably needs. [ A sheepish little laugh as he looks from the MAV to Law. His smile turns a bit warmer at the compliment. ]

Th-thank you for saying so. [ The MAV might not be the best or biggest of the boats around there but she has a lot of good memories linked to her. A lot of good memories so Helios looks at the ship fondly and not really as just a ship. ] I've been reading up on h-how to take care of them. I-I'm not really a n-navel sort of person.

[ What little he did know came from his time with Giles and having to learn then. ]

True. It's...quite easy to get wrapped up in things here. Luceti tends to, ah, distract people at t-times. [ Whether the distraction is good or not, depends. ]

Oh! I-I'd really appreciate that. If-if you don't mind. S-Sometime later, it doesn't have to be right now.

You know something. I've forgotten to introduce myself. I'm Trafalgar Law.

[folklorist]

Oh! [ A small smile and nod from Helios. ] It's nice to meet you. You...work at one of the clinics, correct?

[deathsdoctor]

Yes. I head the Battle Dome one.

[folklorist]

Ah I see. It's...nice to f-finally meet the person who runs it. [ A smile as he looks over at Luminair who chirps happily. ]

I-I know a good few healing techniques thanks to N-Nala. It's not much but, well, it helps when you need it, hm?

[deathsdoctor]

Oh it certainly does. [Unless you're on a draft or combat mission.] She's wonderful to work with. I've learned a lot.

[folklorist]

One of the few spirits that are. [ A light chuckle as he takes a sip of his own bottle of ice tea. ] Ah! If you're hungry we have p-popcorn and things like that as well. Um, it's not much in terms of f-food. Chips and things like that.

[ Typical movie theater fare he supposed. ] Does you world have m-movies?

Do you have any vegetables and dip? Or fruit?

[That would be awesome - Law's typically health conscious.

As for movies... canon is unclear. They can televise things, but, it's not quite the same, and all instances have been live.]

Not really? Something like that would be a luxury reserved for the rich. I mean there are recordings out there, but I've never been to one personally.

[folklorist]

As a matter of fact...I think we do. [ A smile as he motions to the various cut vegetables surrounding a bowl of ranch and other dips. ]

A luxury, really? Almost everyone back home has a television. I'm...not really up to date on these sorts of things either, if it's any consolation. Movies are...interesting. I think if I could remember everything from here I might open up to the fact of watching them more often. One of the clubs at school has functions much like this, movie nights.

[deathsdoctor]

Wonderful. [Look out vegetables! There's a hungry Supernova coming your way.]

Aa... yes. Most people back home don't... have much. [This is not something he terribly wants to get into discussing but there are the nobility and the rich, and then there's everyone else. Some areas were more prosperous than others, true, but one definitely saw the divide. One of the reasons there were so many pirates back home.] But anyway, I'm looking forward to it myself. They sound like they will be interesting from what you're saying.

Are you a teacher back in your home?

[folklorist]

[ Helios moves over to the table to get some chips and some of those veggies too. Delicious! He'll bend down and give Luminair some carrots and celery with ranch dressing. He knows when a subject is a touchy one, so he doesn't press Law to talk about it anymore. Instead he smiles a little and nods. ]

Mm, yes. Well a headmaster. I-I run the school...it's been in my family for a rather long time, so. [ He shrugs and smiles. ] I suppose it's...in my blood to take it up after my mother and father.

[deathsdoctor]

[Law has to sternly remind himself that other people want the vegetables and not to eat them all. To eat slowly.

Shounen metabolisms sometimes suck.]

Oh, I can understand that. [Lots of things and positions were inherited in his world.] What does your school teach? General studies or something a little more specific?

[Law is question central right now - all part of getting to know you. Stalking journal entries and hearing about a person secondhand could only tell a guy so much.

And he is curious about the man after he heard from Lupin about the whole Apep fiasco. So getting to know you it is.]

General studies. And we have lots of different electives as well. [ And lots of different students, but he doesn't touch upon that quite yet. ]

[deathsdoctor]

[Law nods.]

And it's open to anyone?

[He's going to clarify why he asked that.]

School's a luxury back in my world as well. People generally teach you the basics, but most people are apprenticed into a trade when they are very young.
