Prescribed Recreation part 3: Chillax'n with a Vengeance

What: Movie night on the beach

Where: The Beach
Summary: After an unfortunate tussle with a Chaos God, work on a farm, a swarm of refugees and stress piled upon stress, sometimes all anyone wants is to sit back and watch classic movies.
Rating: PG for possible adult language
Something that everyone could agree on was this: the past three weeks had been several shades of stressful. What they needed, what they all needed was something mindless and relaxing shared in the company of those they care for in a neutral environment. The beach works well enough, and it's not that far a trip for anyone involved.

"You think... what, sorry?"

[windandrain]

Music. You have the hands for it.

[She pulls back with a twinkle in her eye and a teasing smirk]

[averybadfeeling]

"... I see."

[... This conversation took an odd turn somewhere and he isn't altogether certain where.]

"Perhaps I should try to find an instrument, then."

[windandrain]

[It always does with her. But its alright, she likes you.]

I have just the thing, Hige-san. A koto I crafted in a fit of boredom when I first arrived. You'll make a fine player given time.

[averybadfeeling]

"I'm afraid I'm unfamiliar with the instrument."

[Wait. What had she called him?]

[windandrain]

A zither, like a harp, Hige-san. It's an instrument associated with enlightenment, and inner peace.

[averybadfeeling]

"... I'm afraid I'll simply have to do research... our instruments in my home are rather unlike your own."

[Harp indicated strings, however, that much he did know. And it fit with her mention of his manual dexterity.]

"... And if I might ask, why do you keep referring to me as 'Hige-san?'

[windandrain]

Don't worry, the wind will bring it to your doorstep tomorrow. You can join Del-chan for her lessons.

[A wicked, wicked grin]

Beardy.

[averybadfeeling]

[He stops. Stares, for a moment.

And then his face breaks into a broad grin.]

"I suppose I am, at that. Very well, then, I shall look forward to our lessons."

[windandrain]

Good. It will be nice for you to pick up a hobby, and it won't even interfere with your stodgy old meditations.

[That smile doesn't waver]

[averybadfeeling]

"Stodgy? You wound me."

[windandrain]

Oh, come now. Only monks don't have time for hobbies, and they spend all their time contemplating secrets and enlightenment. If half of what Del-chan tells me is true...stodgy is too kind!

[averybadfeeling]

[He frowns at that.]

"I can be somewhat reserved, I'll warrant, but hardly stodgy."

[windandrain]

Relax, Hige-san. If you haven't guessed by now, I'm extremely fond of teasing mortals.

[Particularly uptight, bearded ones]

Don't take my fun away by asking me to be so...serious.

[averybadfeeling]

[He sighs.]

"I would never dream of it."

[windandrain]

Good!

[She beams.]

There's no need to be a fuddy-duddy. Enlightenment can be found in many ways, some of them are even fun.

[averybadfeeling]

"Has it ever occurred to you that perhaps I enjoy being a 'Fuddy-duddy?'"

[windandrain]

It had, in fact. You remind me of someone I once knew, actually.

[averybadfeeling]

"It's a positive association, I hope?"

[windandrain]

An old friend, long passed. Your demeanor bears more than passing resemblance. He liked to be called fussy and reserved as well.

[averybadfeeling]

"I see. Well, then I shall consider it a compliment and thank you."

[windandrain]

Of course. Lord Isora would like you, I feel. Despite being mortal, and...beardy.

[averybadfeeling]

"Was Lord Isora another of your peers, then?"

[He chuckles again.]

"One perhaps less than enamored of beards?"

[windandrain]

He was, the Lord of Shores. Unfortunately, he isn't here, and we've been out of touch for several decades.

And no, he had no beard. Merely a seaweed mustache.
