Hm. [Antiquated. And the girl who had made the report had concluded things were inoperable.

So he instead answers the question Gai had opened with.]
It's just more proof that this world is trapped in a cyclical pattern. We knew from the beginning that there were others before us, but these notes show that they had ... evolved in a similar way as us. Access to the desert. The introduction of electricity.

[Gai nods in agreement.]

And if these machines are any indication, the pattern of evolution where technology is concerned is similar to that of the Earth that I come from. Most of what you can find in the stores now are the same sort of devices from about forty to fifty years ago in my world.

It may prove to be worth asking people from other enclosures -- specifically those from enclosures older than Luceti -- if they experienced a similar progression of growth. As it is, our experiences in comparison to our predecessors could be coincidence; if other enclosures have experienced similar milestones, it could mean that our growth is a result of experiment stages.

[He'd rather not like to think that way of their progress, but it was something they had to research.]

I wouldn't be surprised. The best way to test the effects of something is to do the same thing to multiple different test subjects.

[As he knows all too well from personal experience.]

[He nods faintly in agreement. Anyone who had paid attention to the way the Malnosso seemed to work would not be too surprised by this.] Multiple iterations, multiple enclosures. If you find yourself around people from older enclosures, you may wish to ask them about their ... history.

Assuming they'd be willing to tell outsiders the truth.

Perhaps they may find reason to lie. But, under the circumstances, we have few other options other than asking questions. [Which was really what they were doing at every occasion -- just not with the people from the enclosures.]

It's just a matter of separating what's true from what isn't. Waiting for someone to slip up, in other words.

Indeed. [His tone is dry.] Rather sad how there are few people who understand that.

Most of the people brought here haven't had a reason to have to do anything of that sort before. They don't know anything outside of their peaceful everyday lives. When you think of it that way, it isn't a surprise at all.
