DRAFT - The Battle of Vaskoth

On the 25th, Lucetians are ushered in to join an already growing army to repel the Cultists.

On the 26th, strange symptoms are reported. The first Runners appear and by nightfall, the hospital is lost.

On the 27th, the cultist horde is completely lost to the virus. They send no more reinforcements.

On the 28th, the situation is grim and an evacuation is called. But the battle is not over.

Notes: There will be two NPC threads. One for Specialist Davis and another for Carol.

[Aang is petrified, horrified by this latest foe. He'll never get used to enemies like this. But at least it wasn't a friend's face this time. After his moment of freezing up, he managed to kick into gear and used some earthbending to trip the enemy up. He was so disoriented, he could not tell the runners were coming.

But he did near Nami's voice and looked towards her immediately in concern.]

Nami?

[Mental note to self. When getting the Avatar's attention, it might be better next time to yell this first:]

Behind you! [Though she's rocketing past him to smack the closest one back with her staff, sending it tumbling backward. For someone who looks so weak, she has an awful lot of arm strength.]

[He follows Nami's movements with his eyes, concerned, but when she calls out again, he immediately spins around to notice the runners. Wow, Nami has a lot of arm strength to match how strong she looks.

But first thing's first: he pushes out with airbending, making a large spherical field covering himself and Nami to knock back multiple ones at once. But instead of being knocked back, they are simply slowed and continue trying to run against his wind.]

[If anything else, she hates how strong and mindlessly persistent these things are (and it's easier for her to think of them as things, don't think too hard on who they could have been a day ago)-- and it's been a long, hard day in which she and Vivi had to fight far too many of the zombies for comfort. Nami pulls back to stick close to Aang, draws the gun and fires.

Even now she can't go for killing shots. She really, really should be. It isn't doing much more for slowing them down than Aang's wind barrier.

For the record? This is the worst draft she's ever been on.]

[Aang winces with every gunshot he hears. Even if it's clear she's not going for killing shots, the gun will always be the most alien and frightening weapon to Aang.

As they begin to fall back more from the gunfire, Aang switches over to Earthbending. He raises blunt pieces of earth to knock some individuals back with and he also tries sinking some to try to half-bury them in the ground.]

[...oh, there's a good idea. Nami files that trick away for use later; she's no earthbender, but she's on good terms with Faeren, and hey, you never know.

Her gun runs out of bullets and she fumbles with reloading, falling back past Aang so she's not a sitting duck for a few seconds.] It's a pity there isn't a river nearby. You could just wash them away.

[He finds himself barking back as he continues earthbending to give her cover.]

What if they drown?!

You got another way of stopping them in their tracks? [She glances at the half buried ones.] Can you bury them up to their necks?

Y-yeah. I can do that. I just want to be careful. [He quietly exerts more force into his bending to sink them deeper.] There could be people we know somewhere in there!

There isn't. [She knows the faces of those on the draft well enough. But.] But that doesn't mean they're not precious to someone else. I just don't know how else to deal with them.

[One reaches out a little too closely as he sinks further in, and she smacks his arm away with her staff.] I'm sorry, I'm not much help to you here.

No, Nami, you're still helpful. If it weren't for you... they could have gotten me without noticing. Thank you.

[He then switches over to some firebending to ward off the ones growing closer.]

Any time. [But she can't help but recall the frozen look on his face when she first caught sight of him.] Doing okay?

As okay as I can be. This... I never thought I'd have to fight enemies like this.

You and me both.

[And her heart isn't in this...

...neither is his. Maybe the best she can do right now is to bend the wind a little with Kipinn, dulling the sounds and smells of their fight to anything else nearby. At least she can stop the noise of this battle drawing even more in.] We should fall back closer to base. I don't think we should be out here.

[He hesitates for a moment. And then he nods.]

Y-yeah... Let's. Reinforcements should be coming soon. [He's just afraid they'll be less merciful.] I should be able to meet up with Roku there, too. [A pause, before he manages to make a light grin.] How'd you like to get back faster than you thought?

[Nami knows they'll be less merciful. She's just pragmatic enough and callous enough that she'll settle for not having to see it, because they'll be forced to be just as brutal eventually. She matches his grin, trying to keep things as light as she can. Which isn't much, admittedly.] I think that'd be fantastic.

Alright. This is a new trick I've been working on but it should work!

[And it's a lot easier without the power cap. He makes two small marbles of air and blows them out so one is in front of each of them. And as they go through the air, two marbles grow into full grown air scooters. He hops onto one and waits for a moment.]

Now get on it quick! Only I can control it but you should be able to sit on it!

[The hell. IS THAT SAFE--

--well neither is staying behind to deal with zombies, so on she hops, with a comical look on her face like she's expecting to fall straight through it.] You sure about this?

Yeah, just stay on and things should go okay!

[Aang moves his arms with airbending to send both scooters going forward at the same time. It's complicated enough that it works best when both are going in the same direction at the same speed. He tries to go fast but still staying at a speed that Nami can hold on to.]

[There's a small mental breakdown going on here because THIS THING IS MADE OF AIR HOW DOES SHE HOLD ON TO IT-- though it seems pretty easily in the end. Can't quite help giving a trademark Nami yelp when they take off though. She clings to the scooter (IT'S MADE OF AIR WHAT EVEN) and keeps an eye out behind them, hair whipping in the breeze.

Well, you'll be pleased to know we're faster than the runners. As long as we're not beset by any flyers, it should be okay, right? She keeps the gun in hand just in case.]
