A Night of One-Hundred Tales!

Who: Rei Hino, Tsuzuki Asato, and ANYONE who wants to join in!
What: A Hyakumonogatari Kaidankai, or telling ghost stories!
When: October 29th in the evening
Where: Tsukino Shrine
Summary: Rei and Tsuzuki decide to invite people to share ghost stories to celebrate Halloween. There will be food and drinks, and the ghostly interlopers are kept at bay by the shrine's wards to give people a break from hauntings. Turn up and share stories, or listen to them.
Rating: PG-13 at the worst, depending on the story!

It had taken quite a bit of work, but as night fell everything seemed as perfect as they could manage it. The andon were lit, the chairs were arranged in the courtyard, and the wind-screens were in place to keep everyone warm. Rei had thrown open the shrine doors and set out braziers to warm participants, stoking them with embers from the temple's main flames. Food had been laid out, snacks, coolers of cold drinks, and even thermoses of hot water for warm ones. They even had a mirror sitting on the steps of the shrine, reflecting light into the courtyard. Not the most traditional way of doing things, but it's what they had to work with.

The shrine wasn't large enough to house a crowd of more than ten or twelve people inside, but if the crowd was small enough they could move indoors. Everything was set up for a night of storytelling, casual fun, and a little bit of relief from the ghostly visitors that were assailing the villagers.

Guests start arriving around twilight, and Rei can't help but smile as they get underway. This was hopefully going to be a good time for everyone involved.

(OOC: Feel free to assume Tsuzuki or Rei made an announcement about the party. For those not familiar, the goal of a Hyakumonogatari Kaidankai is to share stories with other people. Each time a story is finished, one andon (small lantern) is extinguished and the room steadily gets darker. Feel free to have your character post a story of their own in a comment, and discuss to discuss what's been narrated. Linn and I would love to have characters share ghost stories from all sorts of worlds, scary or silly. I hope you guys enjoy this!)

Mm yes. I'm still trying to get around that. Somehow transferring power from one person to other. Maybe having a storage supply could help. Like a, ah, battery or something like that. Only it's not your energy that's stored but someone else's.

The battery idea could work. Hell, it might even be something that Harry would be interested in if you wanted a hand at it. ..

Hm. You think so? I should ask him then. I think it'll be possible. By using a key and lock mechanism I-I think it could give people without magical capabilities so chance of using it.

So you're talking about something like flipping a switch or pushing a button, right? The two transistors meet and the current gets sent through.

[folklorist]

Yes that's exactly right. Making two corresponding sigils to activate when put together could very well work to that degree.

[ So many ideas right now. ]

...It looks like you're getting into what I know as 'gibberish' pretty soon.

[Because magic and him seriously didn't get along.]

Though, it'd be cool if we can make that work around here. It gives people without any magic or powers a better chance at holding our own.

Oh! My apologies I-I get excited sometimes.

[ Just a sheepish laugh as he rubs the back of his head. ]

Yes. It would be...wouldn't it? Perhaps I'll put in an inquiry to the rest of the village.

Again, why not check with Harry and his club? They seem to be all over this sort of thing.

I'll certainly do that! Might also help tie into the airship project we have.

Can you imagine all the possibilities if it were able to be constructed...

[ Everyone would have a means of protecting themselves and keeping one another safe. ]

All ready ahead of you on that.

Perhaps you could oblige and act as our tester, once we get things setup. If it's even remotely possible I'd love to make more than one for people. [ He pauses, thoughtful for a few moments as he considers all of this. ]

It'd probably take awhile to even make though. Magic isn't as strong here due to the power cap, but it'd still probably be feasible, somehow.

Take your time. Most things here take a while anyway, but we have nothing but time.

...if you needed a tester...[Because he had nothing but time as well, and it sounded like an interesting project. He wouldn't have minded helping with something that was potentially useful.]

A true statement to be sure. I'll, ah, be sure to give you a call over the journals once I have something ready. [ Hopefully there won't be too many obstacles or distractions thanks to the Malnosso. ]

I'll keep my eyes and ears open for it then.

[folklorist]

Good! And I'll be sure to let you know if anything changes with said project. [ He pauses then and gives Lupin a small smile. ]

S-So do you have any...ghost stories to tell? I know your world had the Loch Ness monster in it. Does it have spirits and ghosts too?

[Lupin returned that smile, if sheepishly.]

You know? People are always telling stories, but in this case it's all just for the thrill of the story itself. Aside from the odd rumor here or there, we don't really have anything back home.

[folklorist]

Rumors sometimes have the perchance of being quite true. And if you Nessy in your world...it might just be. You never really can be certain, especially when it comes to spirits. They're often very hard to contact during daylight hours a-and around larger populations of people.

hmm...pity, then. I'll probably never hae the chance to see any at home.
