On the 29th, the Malnosso announce over the radios that the power cap will be lifted to a full 100%. Carol broadcasts a message.

On the 30th, the Malnosso declare Vaskoth completely lost. Those with radio access will discover that the enclosure is to be bombed.

On the 31st, survivors will have one last chance to evacuate or try to find the cure. 3PM is do or die.

I can arrange that. Come, I've a small hideaway not far from here. Better to be off the ground.

[Loki nods and straightens. He's not particularly steady on his feet.]

[Saori steps over and offers a hand]

It's alright. I won't think less of you if you need a hand. But we should hurry, there could be more of those things out there.

[The need to hurry is more important than pride. Saori, he can trust for some things. He takes her hand.]

[Silently, she hurries off to a nearby building, giving Loki support where he needs it. Her armor still doesn't seem to impede her, natural grace and strength of training helping keep silent as she helped him up a small chain ladder into a zombie-free loft]

It's not much, but it's got a good view of the area. There are blankets and a mattress over there, if you feel chilled.

[He does feel chilled. Loki takes up one of the blankets and wraps it around himself, hugging his arms tightly against his body.]

This will do nicely, thank you. Though I think sleep is unlikely.

And ill-advised. If the building gets surrounded, we'll have to leave quickly. But take time. Rest.

[She pulls out a bottle of water and a pair of chocolate bars]

Eat, drink, it will settle your stomach. I know it's strange having to deal with that, but you get used to it.

[Loki gives the chocolate bars a wary look. He knows what they are, and the thought of eating something that sweet is not one he wishes to contemplate. He does take the water bottle though, and drinks.]

It seems best to leave the field of battle now. [He has little interest in fighting if he's going to be this helpless.]

Eat, Loki. It's got something in it that helps make you feel better. It's a bit bitter, but when something like this happens Yuuna says it's good for human bodies.

[She takes a bite from her own and turns to look out over the ruined city]

Oh? You wish to leave? I know you have no love of war, but a man as intelligent as you could still be helpful.

I have had chocolate. It's rather too sweet for me. [He shakes his head again, then looks down at his hands.] I do not think I am human, even if I am diminished.

[Honestly, he's not certain if that would be better or worse.]

I do not take your meaning. [Helpful? How? And why would he even care?]

For all intents and purposes, your body is human. That's how these Shifts work. It's disquieting, but true.

[Halfheartedly, Saori reaches into a bag and tosses Loki an apple then. She'd hoped to save it, but his needs outweighed hers]

How is my meaning not apparent? You are learned. There are people here doing more than fighting. People who would be grateful for assistance.

[He's still not so sure about that, but doesn't want to test it either. How disquieting it would be, were he stuck in his Jotunar appearance.

He catches the apple and nibbles at it cautiously.]

Ah. My learning is more a matter of maths and physics. [Though ultimately, everything is about math and physics. And he has little doubt he's more intelligent than those working on the problem. The point of gratitude is an interesting on, at least. Something potentially useful.]

You've got more learning in such matters than I do, I'm afraid. Old and wise I may be, but my knowledge of mathematics and physics is dated. I've not the interest you have on such subjects, I prefer studying art and song to science.

[She smiles, and takes a seat, leaning against a wall. She'll never admit that he's smarter than she, but she will give him credit where it's due. They're of different fields, his is just more applicable in this situation.]

Here all I can do is fight, the Malnosso haven't taken away the lessons of Bishamonten. But the problem isn't to be solved by culture, but by science.

[Loki turns the apple meditatively in his hands.]

Perhaps, if at all.

[Saori takes another bite of chocolate]

You've seen plagues and pestilence as much as I. There's always a way to stop it, if you apply the right kind of pressure.

I imagine so. 'tis something I've by habit left to the healers.

As have I, but it seems scientists have begun working to find a cure. Perhaps it would be to all our benefits if you were to aid them?

[Again the implication of gratitude. If he was half as brilliant as he claimed, he'd be able to do something]

[He raises an eyebrow. His tone is exceedingly dry.] Goodness Lady Saori, I've no idea at all what you're implying.

[There are advantages to be had, but he also doesn't like feeling as if he's being pushed. He's a little too contrary for that.]

I'm implying that perhaps with your vast intellect you might see something a lesser mind might not. Nothing more.

[She smiles softly, and turns to look out over the war zone]

How is your stomach feeling?

That is certainly a potential outcome.

[Saori hissed out a whisper and pulled up her bow, nocking an arrow, pointing to a single shambling zombie that was walking in the general direction of their second story hideaway.]

We should leave then, as soon as you're ready.

[He falls silent. He certainly doesn't want a confrontation with one of the infected now.]

We might leave now.

[Silently she nods, indicating that he should climb down opposite the infected. Then she stands and draws back her bow, a long arrow ripping through the thing's skull and sending it to the ground]

It's just one. But go, in case he had friends.

[Loki does as directed. As terrible as he feels right now, he's more than happy to let someone else defend him.]
