"but thanksgiving is more than eating, chuck;"

Who: Residents of CH7 and anyone else who wants to come!
What: Thanksgiving!
When: Thursday, November 22!
Where: Dining area on the first floor of CH7!
Summary: Rapunzel has discovered a hodgepodge of what Thanksgiving is about, and so she has decided to throw a big dinner for anyone who wants to come!
Rating: T for Turkey
If they had Thanksgiving back in her world, Rapunzel had absolutely no knowledge about it, and even after spending over half a year in Luceti, she was still a little hazy on the details of various holidays. However, she loved an occasion to celebrate, and what she'd learned about Thanksgiving so far was certainly something worth celebrating: a day to share good food with friends new and old, and express your thanks for the wonderful things in your life? Sounds perfectly fantastic to her. So she decided to make the most of it.

She starts cooking in the kitchen on the first floor of CH7 nearly at the break of dawn, filling the building with enticing aromas throughout the day. If that's not enough to draw people out, she takes a moment between dishes to make a village-wide invite to the dinner on the journal. She even makes a sign to set in the window of the bakery, apologizing for the unscheduled closing and directing any interested parties to the nearby CH7 for promised good times and delicious food.

Of course, she would love to have anyone bring a dish if they so desire - there's only so much cooking one can do, even if they are a Disney princess! She'd love some help in the kitchen, too.

At the dinner itself, attendants can expect to find many of the traditional Thanksgiving dishes - turkey, mashed potatoes, vegetables, casseroles, stuffing, rolls, yams, et cetera. Of course, there are a few completely out-of-place dishes as well: popcorn, jelly beans, toast, pretzels. Where on earth could she have gotten the idea for food like that? It is a mystery. For dessert, there will be an impressive line up of pies of various flavors, pumpkin roll, pumpkin bread, cupcakes decorated as turkeys, cookies, and so forth.

So, come on in, meet some friends new and old, and most of all, be thankful!

[ooc: This log is open to anyone who wants to go to a Thanksgiving dinner but may not have a place to go! As mentioned, Rapunzel made an announcement on the journal earlier in the day inviting anyone who wants to to come, as well as set a sign up in the bakery directing people to CH7. This is basically a free-for-all mass log, so have fun, bring a dish, carve some turkey, do whatever!]

[How much of an idiot does he think she is? Katniss shakes her head, unable to keep the slightly annoyed look off her face. A thousand years old. As much as she clings to life, that much life almost sounds terrifying.]

Humans don't live that long.

[Amused:] You certainly don't. I am not human.
stillplaying: ([anger] trust no one)

[Very slowly and very meticulously, she looks him over from head to two. She's met other people here, people who aren't human either. The talking ponies that she once mistook for muttations. But they had been distinctly not-human looking. Even the cultists with their great wings had an otherworldly feel to them.]

You look human.

Things are rarely as they appear.

[Sometimes, maybe. But she doesn't think it's always that complicated.

Her eyes narrow and her arms cross over her chest in mild annoyance.]
So, what are you?
complicatedliar: (in the end you will always kneel)

[A much more difficult question than she realizes, that.]

Aesir. [He smiles crookedly.] Mortals once worshiped us as gods.
stillplaying: ([interest] considering)

[personal profile] stillplaying 2012-12-14 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
[The word means nothing to her. The explanation he provides means little more. She had never even heard of gods until arrival here. Had there ever been a religion in the world that existed before Panem, it had been wiped out by the oppressive government that formed out of the ashes of the old North America.]

Are you? [Asked slowly.] A god?

[personal profile] complicatedliar 2012-12-14 08:31 am (UTC)(link)
Yes. [He smiles.] God of Mischief.
stillplaying: ([indifference] doubtful)

[personal profile] stillplaying 2012-12-15 08:22 pm (UTC)(link)
[She eyes him with a little apprehension at that. Mischief. Who knew that there was a god of mischief? And what, exactly, would a god of mischief actually do? She should ask. Instead:]

We don't have gods in Panem.

Many mortals don't, these days. Which I think is quite fine; gods are generally nasty things. [He grins.] Lack of belief does not change what we are, however.
stillplaying: ([confusion] doesn't get it)

[personal profile] stillplaying 2012-12-17 04:43 pm (UTC)(link)
[It really is all confusing. Gods and religion and all of it. If gods are supposed to be religion, how can they exist where religion does not exist? Where there is no belief, like in Panem?

She shakes her head. This is not the conversation she ever expected to have at Rapunzel's feast.]

I thought that belief and religion is what makes gods.

Sometimes, yes, I would think so. Belief is a powerful thing, and if one can harness that power, it could be quite useful. But the Aesir as a race never required such belief. They simply reveled in it.

[He laughs softly.]

And some gods simply are made up, because someone was frightened by a flash of light and came up with a story to explain it.
stillplaying: ([neutral] just that stubborn)

[She nods. That last part, about making gods up, makes sense. Perhaps some of the most sense she's heard in this entire conversation.

Even then, though, there's science. People know most of the things in their world work by now.]

Except we know why light flashes in the sky sometimes.

Indeed. Lightning occurs because there is an electrical potential created betwixt cloud and ground. Often because of storms.

[He smiles.]

And also sometimes because someone like me wants it to be.
