What: An important meeting between Senior and Junior.

Summary: Masaomi seeks guidance from one of the most senior Pokémon trainers after a recent losing streak.
Rating: PG

[It was typical, of course, for Green to be in the forest and training. He had a set schedule, after all, even if his training spots were often a bit varied. Lately, despite the bitter cold, Green had taken to dressing lightly and using a wooden sword himself, practicing his own skills that he hadn't trained as severely since he was a very young child.

He'd swing at his Rhydon to raise its maneuverability, he'd strike at Charizard to teach it to react instead of flinch, and he'd have Scizor train him to be faster and parry blows better. It's important, after all, for a trainer to get more involved - even if Green has been training since childhood.

Masaomi would likely find him along the water today, wearing a t-shirt and light pants and practicing with Scizor at the moment.]

[A sword? Really? He glances at Linda, who just shrugs. With Rhyhorn gone, there's no eye candy anyway. So he recalls her with her lurid yellow pokeball and gets the sword in hand.

His stance is one-handed, holding it like he would one of his metal batons he's much more used to fighting with. Kendo master he is not]

[Good, good... Green lets out Charizard.]

I will train you as I was trained. Your opponent is Charizard.

[Re...really - he looks surprised for all of about two seconds before he smirks. You know what, this'll be fun. He'd prefer to have his impact diel, the gear, the other stuff, but you know outside of flames whatever other bullshit the dragon has, he's confident]

Alright then.

Like my teacher before me, I will teach you what it means to be a trainer. What it means to battle with Pokémon.

You're being let off easy, starting this late in your life.

Tell that to all the bruises I got from Silver. Maaah, I hear you though, Sensei.

[It's only slightly irreverent, but it's the only way he can cope with this man's severity.]

[Green nudges Charizard, who stomps forward, slashing at Masaomi with its claws.

Green himself stood back and watched, for now. He was severe, certainly, and the disrespectful attitude only made him moreso.]

So what's the goal up here? [If Masaomi's anything, it's quick on his feet. (though really, these days, he's a whole lot more than that) Despite how well trained the Charizard is, the claws seem to move in slow motion, and so a light step back with no wasted movement? That's easy enough to do right now]

Attack it. Don't waste your time dodging his claws, parry the blows!

[Green doesn't directly respond, instead giving Masaomi the order.]

[Dodging's easy. Whatever. He has no idea where the pressure points are on a dragon, but he can improvise. The next claw swipe he ducks under, using the crouch as spring to get airborne- from there there's a swipe at the back of the neck with the sword and, should he be able to plant a hand, leaping on over the thing.

Of course, despite him being strong and agile there's still the wings, a small opening for a grapple, and an oversight in the form of the tail. It's well executed for what it is, it's just full of excess moments from someone who's self-taught himself to fight for years]

[It's hard to compete with a well-trained Pokémon, in the end. Charizard tilted his head so that the sword hit his horns instead of his neck, then arched up to smack the human hard with his surprisingly strong wings.]

Go back around the front, Masaomi.

[Which did knock him off, briefly winded him, but hey, he landed n his feet. But right, right. Back around front it is, going fast because he's not sure if it's still a fight]

[It is - as Masaomi is moving, Charizard twists and sweeps his tail at knee-level.]

Jump up and get leverage!

[Wait, is he the pokemon? He's totally the pokemon. Rude. Oh well, he knew to do the jump, but turns it into one of his classics, a jump kick.

His standing jump (such as this is) around three and a half feet right there]

[If you consider that an insult, then you're not getting Green's point!

Charizard gets his jaw kicked, but brings his head down after the swing to deliver a headbutt.]

He's slow, sidestep it and strike!

[Wow no he just doesn't like listening to Green's orders, okok.

But he complies, swooping left and giving a swipe with the wooden sword ]

[The wood cracks against the thick hide of Charizard's neck, and the dragon bellows angrily, turning its head to breathe a flamethrower on Masaomi.

Green had already been hovering relatively close, and moved to close the distance, sticking his hand in the dragon's mouth and grabbing Charizard by the lip and pulling his head back down to immediately stop the dragon from pushing too far. There was no resentment from Charizard, just surprise before the dragon backed off and waited for the next order.]

It's important to have perfect control over your Pokémon.

[Masaomi'd already rolled back and right, to what he hoped was out of the immediate range of whatever beam was about to come out, but at Green's actions, he can't help but be mildly impressed. True, he's done the same thing for Linda before, but...

You know, it's reassuring even someone like Green has pokemon act up. Even if this might be an act, his DRRR brain can't help but think.

Still, he nods]

Even the most well-trained Pokémon can be extremely dangerous without direct instruction. They can do something to someone that you will regret, if you aren't extremely fast to react. But the best thing you can possibly do is to not be reactionary, and to have control of your Pokémon from the get-go.

Do you understand?

Vaguely. I'd been lead to believe they were "partners," so it's contradictory in my head that you'd calling me a pet owner before and telling me to tame them now.

[He says this sincerely. He is mildly confused at the contradictory motifs]

Pokémon aren't children. They are your partners, and neither of you should make a move without the other being able and willing to turn with you. You go too far in letting Linda do what she wants, and you need to learn to hold the reins tighter.

Hiccup and Shiemi understand this balance very well.

...I'll definitely give you that for Shiemi-chan.

[This one actually is spoken with respect. Skarmy is (almost) as rebellious and awful as Linda can be from what he's seen, and she's got her in order. Couple that with some other things, like how Shiemi is his chief rival, he weights her as so much more than the other beginner trainers]

Hiccup probably has the best understanding out of the lot of you. His relationship with Toothless is very akin to what a relationship with your Pokémon is supposed to be. He's the one I'm least concerned about.

[Nod nod. Though he's been out for so long, Green certainly is going to make sure he catches the dragon rider up the next chance he gets!]

I'd argue he doesn't work Kyle hard enough, or at least, I'd say that based on our battle. But then, maybe Kyle just isn't as aggressive as my partner...? Maah, you know best either way.

[If Green says it, it's probably factual anyway. With the lull in the fight, he rolls his shoulders]

He's pacing himself appropriately. If he has problems, they will be much easier to deal with because they will be small enough to nip in the bud.

[Green puts his hands in his pockets, giving Charizard a hard stare.]

Keep going, but don't use your flames. If he's slow enough to get hit by your tail, that's the only exception.

We're going again, Masaomi. I'm training you until you understand.

Maybe, but even ignoring me, there's a big gap between him and Shiemi-chan. [but okay, he's back into it. Back into a fighting stance. He won't be slow enough to be hit by that tail.]
