It's Pancake Day!

Who: Anyone and everyone!
What: A feast of pancakes in honour of Shrove Tuesday.
When: Tuesday February 5th
Where: CH7, ground floor
Summary: Truly a feast day second only to Christmas!
Rating: PG/PG-13 for language if someone gets burned on the stove or hit by exploding magical pancake batter.

All of the ingredients have been gathered and are laid out when Max finally gets up that morning. More eggs and milk and flour than he's ever seen in one place and maybe he'd gone a bit overboard with it, but he didn't know how many people would be showing up. It wasn't as though they could use the rest of it some other time.

[Ralph slept through most of the hullabaloo... including the invitation.

Groggy and barely awake, he shuffles into the community kitchen, scowls at the unusual number of people around, then heads towards the fridge.

The giant of a man pulls out a gallon of milk and just starts chugging it down. What better way to start the day?]

[Loki watches Ralph with an expression caught between disgusted and impressed. It's like watching Thor drink anything with alcohol. But with milk, which makes it far more gross.]

[He finishes and absentmindedly drops the empty gallon onto a counter, before letting out a refreshing sigh and wiping at his chin. There is still a notable milk mustache, however.

And he blinks groggily, finally noticing Loki's presence.]

Loki? What're you doing here?

I have been promised pancakes that aren't disgustingly sweet.

And something called toad in the hole that supposedly involves no actual toad. I am skeptical.

Toad in the... hole? [He squints. Sounds like a name you'd give to some obscure game. And he looks around again at all the other people around.]

What is this, some kinda party? Who throws a party during breakfast? [Felix totally would. But that's besides the point.]

A pancake party.

[He shrugs.] Mortals. [As if that explains everything.]

Right. Uh, mortals.

But, man, those are a lot of pancakes. I am kinda hungry...

[complicatedliar]

You're a mortal. [Loki points this out helpfully. As if that means Ralph should totally understand what's going on.]

I believe they are free to be eaten by whoever might want them, so you ought to take whatever you like.

[Maybe Ralph will end up with some of the magical Loki pancakes. He's not going to be so obvious as to point them out.]

I prefer the term "lacking in 1-Ups".

But huh... That easy? I guess when there's no money or points or anything here, it's easier to give things for free. But then again, I haven't exactly been invited. [He grumps.]

I have no idea what that means so I will take your word for it.

[He shrugs.] They invited everyone over the journals, so I should think you were included in that.

Like - extra lives. It's a game thing, whatever.

You sure? They coulda used one of those filter things for me.

What an odd game.

It is of course possible but that makes little sense. Why invite everyone here where you would be then?

Check your journal perhaps.

Eh, most games're like that, actually. Having extra lives means the player gets more tries at winning. Doesn't really hurt us so much, though - we get regenerated all the time as long as we're in our own game.

...Fine. Maybe I will.

[He takes out the journal and plays the announcemnt. Then replays it, listening with scrutiny.]

...Huh. Hey Loki, listen to this.

I think I shall stick with chess, as far as games go. [Not that anyone ever invites him to play these other games anyway. Fine. They sound ghastly.]

[He raises his eyebrows.]

[He pokes at the journal with his large hands a few times, replaying a part over and over.]

Nothing weird about the way he says that? He'd like to invite everyone. But that doesn't mean he wants to.

It's all he deserves

I mean... am I imagining this? And listen to this:

From about lunch time until... I dunno. Whenever we can't eat anymore.

He says this twice. Why does he make a point of this? Because he doesn't want someone around who he thinks will eat everything early. Someone big. And who's the biggest guy here you know? Um... hello. [He laughs hollowly and gives himself a pat on the chest.] Yours truly!

Hold on a moment, Ralph. I should like to record this. For the next time someone faults me for being paranoid.

Paranoid? Oh come on. I mean - you're a bad guy too, right? You know how it is! Who in their right mind would invite someone like us to a party?

[Aside from that good-for-nothing Bowser. He even gets to play tennis with the heroes.}

Oh, there's all sorts of things to which we're invited here. [He smiles thinly.] Being all-inclusive lets the dear little things feel generous and good about themselves. You know. Allowing our crooked hearts to bask in the glow of their niceness, in the hopes we'll flower into reformed and pathetically ordinary people.

Though I would say in this case, I do believe Max did intend to invite everyone. He doesn't seem the terribly judgmental sort.

Huh. You really think so? [He tooks a look at the picture. The guy looks so... wholesome and friendly. Ralph doesn't trust him.]

You know what? I don't care if I'm invited or not. I'm gonna eat some pancakes. C'mon, Loki!

That is certainly how he has been thus far. Though I suppose that could all be a clever ruse.

[...he really doesn't think Max is that cunning. But he's kind of done trying to convince Ralph otherwise. It's not as if Loki is the sort who feels compelled to bring people together.]

[Dryly:] That's the spirit, Ralph.

Have some toad in the hole too. It doesn't actually contain any toad, I checked. Which makes me wonder what the point of the name is.

What about uh... mushrooms? You know, like Princess Toadstool?

[complicatedliar]

No mushrooms. Just... sausage, mostly. It's very odd.

They also have something called Spotted Dick. I... didn't ask.

[But still, he grabs a plate and starts to stack up some pancakes.]
