TERRACE Draft - Day 1

This post covers the first day, before the attack. Remember, characters here are not expecting an attack and are under the impression they will be going to Region 1 to fight. During this day, draftees will be restricted to T6 and T7 and not permitted access to other areas.

[She spots him later on in the barracks, seated on his bunk, and changes her course to swing by and check on him. Without bothering with a greeting, she slides down to settle beside him on the bed, several inches still between them as she glances over at him.]

Looking a little tense there, Captain. Nervous?

"Done. Prep's done. Or as done as it's gonna be."

She grabbed at the bottom of the bunk above her, not yet hauling herself up. Just holding on to the bed's lip. "Yours?"

[herotypical]

...Yeah. [ her voice falls momentarily sombre. ] That wasn't a fun one. Not that they're often fun, but -- well. Understatement is how some of us manage to get through the day, I guess.

After everything I've heard about Vaskoth, the less said the better, I think.

[She gives Buffy a rueful smile as the line shifts forward a little.] You've been on a lot of these, I take it?

[herotypical]

Each and every one, barring maybe...two? Three, at most. I seem to be a favoured conscript, much to my great and mighty concern.

That earns her a grin and a chuckle.

"You can blame the Rangers for that," he'll finish loading the clip currently in his hand, laying it next to the other five he's already loaded, "You look like you belong here."

It's an appreciative compliment.

"How's it going on your end?"

[Natasha's perched on the edge of a wall when she spots him coming towards her. She's been spending as much time outside as possible - putting off being crowded into the barracks with everyone else for as long as she can. Plus, it's not as if the view from here isn't pretty spectacular.

Still, she calls out to him when he gets a little closer, swinging one leg absently against the wall.]

Attempting to get lost?

"Working on it, but you know me..."

He'll keep checking and double checking until it's time. It's a meditation, of sorts. He'll nod to a spot next to him. Sit down, Buffy; it's cool.

"Where you think you're going to be?"

[herotypical]

"For once? The home-front, or as near to one as we end up getting in this forest. I've got a duty a little more pressing than indulging my inner fight clubber, I'm afraid. Or maybe not so afraid at all. It's hard to tell."

[It helps, he thinks, that Itachi keeps his masks metaphorical.

Shikamaru nods, pensive, and turns his head not to stare. Instead he reasons with himself, trying to flip back his Luceti memories like searched through a card catalog. What was it Itachi said then...]

It was the cost of undoing the Edo Tensei.

[ Yes, Twi, get in an argument with the odd blue-skinned man. That's one way to make someone's acquaintance. ]

Clearly you're very popular with them. [It's a wry assessment as she glances over her shoulder again.] Lucky you.

"Really?" it seems surprising to him; everything he's 'read' from her actions and personality made him think she wasn't the type to stay in the back of the group. Something must really have her if she was willing to give that up.

"Mind if I ask?"

"The Rangers, is it? Somehow that doesn't surprise me," she muses, tilting her head to the side to study him a moment. His assessment earns him a wry smile and she lifts one shoulder in a shrug, not bothering to argue.

"Well enough. It's not exactly my first rodeo."

[herotypical]

"A favour. For someone. Someone I wouldn't call a friend, so you'd think I wouldn't be doing favours for him. But that favour involves keeping an eye on a kid. So who am I to draw lines in the sand and get picky about who I do or don't help, y'know?"

A half-shrug. She spoke lightly, but the whole affair meant rather a lot to her.

[After going through the transporters with Cliff and Albel, Fayt takes to wandering around the base taking in the sights and sounds, people and places. The cafeteria food really didn't do much for him, but the architecture was interesting to see, at least. It was a fantastic mix of technology that shouldn't normally exist, and Fayt wondered how long this structure had existed in the first place for it to get that way.

He'll head back to the barracks when it starts to get late, selecting a bunk before flopping into it to relax, trying not to think too hard about the coming day.]

"That's worth it, yeah. How old is the kid?"

Another chuckle.

"Same shit, different day."

He starts on the next clip, his words getting quieter, "I'll be honest, not a fan of killing fellow living people, but if that's what it comes to..."

He shrugs. Back home, he makes it a point not to get into it with the living--he'll avoid conflict when he can. Having to kill the undead--having to kill their victims before they suffer the same fate--has had him take more lives than he'd ever been willing to take. It's not something he likes to repeat if he doesn't have to.

But it was what it was; and this? Would be no different.

"Oh - that's good! Right?"

[A total stranger comes up to Freyjadour while he's experiencing his headache - one with an odd smirk on his face and a gleam in his glasses.]

You don't look very well at all.

[To escaped the crowded barracks, Saleh also retreats outside for some air. Glancing around at the clouds, the view truly is magnificent. It isn't long before he spots the creature flying in the air.]

Is that...a pegasus?

[A wave of dizziness washes over him, and he promptly drops to one knee to catch a breather.]

"It's because most people thrive on simplicity." He doesn't specify whether or not he remembers any previous stays. Jade knows he'll look foolish if he actively attempts the charade; better to just do what he can to avoid directly stating one way or another and let Bil assume for himself.

"Whereas I have much more of a taste for detail." He gave a smirk. "But my, it sounds like I was missed."

"Sometimes we can't be quite so picky in our choice of foes," she countered, watching his movements with a methodical sort of familiarity, because this? This was familiar. "The fact that you're not a fan of it is what sets you apart. I've fought Cultists before. I don't think they have as many reservations about it."

[Cliff himself had taken to wandering the base with equal curiosity, taking note of the surroundings and the people that he would be working with. The sheer variety of both made him wish that his deployment on the TERRACE hadn't been for combat alone. But, orders were orders, and he was starting to wonder when he would be told to fight.

But there was time to breathe for the moment. No shame in taking advantage of it.]

It's really something, huh?

[It was always easy for him to find Fayt. Cliff joined him on the street and followed his gaze. There was no reason why they couldn't enjoy the little things.]

[Well Jade can find Alexei practicing in the training dome. He got hit by an affliction when he was sent out and lost his ability to use his artes properly. While he did go to the practitioner's office to have it tended to, he was...not exactly happy about being injected something of unknown origin into him. So now he's here, making sure he's able to use his artes again. He was just cycling through really simple artes like fireball and stone blast. The results weren't...that impressive, but it was better than getting nothing like before.]
