TERRACE Draft - Day 1

This post covers the first day, before the attack. Remember, characters here are not expecting an attack and are under the impression they will be going to Region 1 to fight. During this day, draftees will be restricted to T6 and T7 and not permitted access to other areas.

[ Leaving for the draft marked one of the few times that Tony had left the house in almost two weeks. He wasn't eager to face Lucetians who might have a piece or two to give him about the failure of his project, but he was tired of hiding. It was time to face things, and the draft gave him little choice in the matter. He'd have to suit up, physically and mentally, whether he liked it or not.

After grabbing a bite in the mess hall, he paces around the roads of their assigned sector for much of day. He's restless, and didn't want to go request his armor until he absolutely had to. He diligently keeps a pad of paper and a pen in his pocket at all times, ready to answer questions if asked. He wanted to touch base with familiar faces, too, to reassure them his head was in this. He was done messing up. This time. he would make sure he didn't have any regrets. ]

[Natasha's perched on the edge of a wall when she spots him coming towards her. She's been spending as much time outside as possible - putting off being crowded into the barracks with everyone else for as long as she can. Plus, it's not as if the view from here isn't pretty spectacular.

Still, she calls out to him when he gets a little closer, swinging one leg absently against the wall.]

Attempting to get lost?

[ Not always the most observant, Tony glances up with a hint of surprise in his features when he spots Natasha on the wall. Then, he shoots her a wry look - but she gets a salute as well. Lost wasn't quite the right word for it - occupied was more like it. ]

[She grins when he salutes her, sliding down off the wall with an easy grace and approaching him.]

You're looking a little better than the last time I saw you.

[Which time that is, she's not specifying at the moment.]

[ He wondered what that last time was, too. He hadn't asked how Pepper had found him that day, but it didn't take a lot of guesswork to figure out who was probably behind it.

He probably owed her a thank you for that. But now didn't quite feel like the time. He nods in easy agreement. Even with the pressure of the impending draft, his head was on straighter than it had been for weeks. Now he had a purpose again. ]

[She studies him thoughtfully for a moment, seeing the difference, and her lips quirk faintly. She was glad that whatever Pepper had said to him that night had apparently done the trick.

She rocked back on her heels, tucking her hands in her pockets and letting her gaze drift.]

So. You ready for this tomorrow?

[ He meets the question with a resolute nod. He would be ready. He had to be, and the way he looked at her directly left little room for doubt.

He had to be. ]

[She reads him easily, not needing words or written answers, because its written there plainly in his face. She gives him a grin, and there's quite possibly a faint thrill of anticipation in her gaze as she meets his.]

Good to know. It'll be nice having backup in the trees this time.

[Last time hadn't ended so well, after all.]

[ He lifts an eyebrow at that, drawing out his pen and paper to scribble out a few words. ]

How about in the sky?

[She smirks faintly.] I suppose that will work, too. It's always better to have eyes up high.

[ He nods, before writing: ]

How's the rest of the team?

[She waits to read his question, inclining her head as she lets her eyes drift.] Well. We're assembled. Those of us here, anyway. I haven't actually seen Steve or Barnes yet, but I know they're here somewhere. Clint was heading for the armory when I left him. I bumped into Agent Carter earlier. She's very... capable.

[ He lifts an eyebrow at that. Tony doesn’t know Carter all that well - a friend of dad’s, and that was something - but he’s not too surprised to hear that. ]

I believe it. Ready for tomorrow?

[She lifts a shoulder in a shrug, giving him a crooked smile.]

As ready as I'm likely to be. Not really thrilled to be wading into the jungle again, but I'll deal. And I'll stock up on mosquito repellent this time. Too bad they don't make a version for cultists.

A wry grin. That’s why you wear a suit of armor. Spares you from mosquitos. And usually cultists, too.

It'd be a little rough on my stealth skills, however.

We could paint it camo.

Not really my color theme. But thanks for the offer.

Consider it an open one, in case you change your mind.

[That has her arching an eyebrow, expression mingling somewhere between surprise and skepticism.] You'd build me a suit.

Not here. Back home. Everyone has a hobby.

[ He may or may not be serious. ]

Some people have several. [She gives him an amused look and shakes her head.] Thanks for the offer, but I think I do alright without it. I'll keep it in mind, though.

You'd better. Offers like this don't exactly come along every day.

[He tried to use his powers of generosity sparingly. ]

[~~Well, there was that one time with the glove, Tony~~]

Very magnanimous of you. [Her lips quirk faintly as she tucks her hands in her pockets and takes a step, then pauses, giving him a searching look.] You'll be careful. Right?

[ He doesn't bother with a halfhearted answer, instead nodding his head. Yes, he'd be careful. ]
