Happy Happy birthday!
Who: Close friends of Rei Hino's and one other guest
What: Birthday party surprise times!
When: April 17th
Where: Tsukino Shrine around 7pmish
Summary: Rei is getting a surprise birthday party!
Rating: PG
Helios had done all he could to make sure Rei was out long enough from the shrine to setup for what was indeed her birthday. With some help from her friends and close acquaintances Helios had decorated the shrine in some lights and lanterns for the occasion. It was nothing too outrageous because he knew Rei was a more subtle person, so the decorations are few but meaningful.
Birthdays are good for starting fresh, and spring is a time for letting go of the past and starting anew. The lanterns symbolize that but also help with the festivities. Even if its a small affair Helios puts a lot of hard work into it because of how helpful Rei has been these past few weeks. So to help ease out of the terrible feelings since the draft and to celebrate the birthday of a good friend Helios will invite whoever is close to the young woman.
((ooc; For the sake of not hurting my hands trying to juggle both a post and a log I'm just going to handwave Helios putting up the announcement over the journals to help set things up for Rei's party. If you're character is a close acquaintance/friend of Rei's they're more than welcome to stop by!))

[She couldn't think of the exact term for that, but there most certainly was one. Sae, her close friend back home, didn't quite dislike men, but she used to get so nervous around them, and she couldn't hold a conversation with one. Thankfully, she and Mia had helped her through with it.]
...She sounds like a close and considerate friend to you, then. [She nodded her head in Rei's direction, her features appearing a bit concerned.]
If she has helped you with that much, then I think speaking to her about this could be a good idea as well... And see where you stand with her... I mean, she sounds like the type that would be willing to talk things through.
[While she didn't have experience herself, this wasn't her first time trying to help somebody on such matters, Mia being one of the people she had talked to.]

[Honestly? She wasn't sure that Kari wasn't, but she wasn't sure she was really afraid so much as she felt disdain for them.]
I think in time, perhaps. But who can say what that time will be. Now, at least, feels wrong.

[Not liking a person just because of their gender sure wasn't fair, but it made Ai curious regardless as to what the reason behind it could be, at least for the girl in question.]
...Well, it has been some time since Valentine's. [Assuming that was when she started developing these feelings, and Ai hadn't even been around yet then.] At the very least, you can continue talking to her more often and see if there are any signs of reciprocation. But... even if there are not, getting it off your chest would get her to think about it too, consider it.
[Such feelings like that, especially if they grew stronger, would inevitably be pretty difficult for Ai to keep to herself, she imagined.]

[Rei's getting past that issue now, but still. It's a possible landmine.]
Well, I'll think about it. Thank you, Nanasaki-san. I'm not sure how to approach something like this, but I'm certain I'll be able to sort it out. She...does at least deserve to know how I feel.

[The fact that her friend Sae used to study in an all-girl school all her life, for one thing, hadn't helped her get along with the boys in class at all. With that in mind, her situation was understandable, and something she and Mia had helped her get through.]
It might be hard, but... telling her bluntly is what you can do. [Her lips began pulling into a faint smile as she looked at Rei.] You know her better than I do, though. Knowing how she is can give you an idea as to how to approach the subject, I think.

[Rei's father is the source of all of these issues, and the absolute last person she wants to discuss on her birthday. She blushes at the continued questioning about Kari, though and decides to try and change the subject.]
What about you, Nanasaki-san? Is there someone in your life?

[Ai gave a sign of understanding with a slight inclination of her head. She wouldn't mind finding out more from Rei and talking about it with her, yes, but she was not overbearing and could tell that the shrine maiden was genuinely not up for this discussion now. And Ai wasn't one to leave a bitter taste in somebody's mouth on their birthday.
A rosy blush appeared on Ai's own cheeks upon hearing the same question she had inquired, though. She asked it knowing that Rei could do the same later on, but she didn't mind.]
No. [She shook her head a bit, her gaze looking at Max and Helios again.] I... had not managed to really connect with any boy in my school before I was taken here.
[Most of her focus had been on her studies, making sure to perform well in swimming classes and fulfilling her duties as the captain of the swim team. Even with all of that on her plate, she could have still found the time for a relationship if there was a boy she had feelings for, one who also happened to reciprocate them.]

Does it have to be a boy?

For there to be an attraction on my part in the first place, yes. [She tilted her head a bit and shook it teasingly.] I am afraid I am straight.

O-oh, thank you. [One of her hands played with a lock of her hair for a moment, her eyes briefly looking away before glancing at Rei again, the playful look back on her features.] So are you, Hino-san... I am missing out. [A soft chuckle escaped her lips as she said it.]
no subject
You're very kind. [She really expected the other girl to judge her for what she was only just beginning to realize about herself. But that she didn't was really a nice feeling]
no subject
[So was Ai herself, for that matter, and she hadn't expected she would celebrate an occasion such as this one so soon after coming here. The relieving thing was that it felt just as nice as it would back home.]

[She gives the girl a happy look]
I try and loosen up a bit at parties at least. It's rude not to I think.

[Ai glimpsed at Helios, who was still talking to Max at the time of her and Rei speaking. The two of them looked like they were quite into it.]
I guess that it does show that you like having your friends around you. [She gave the girl a smile and then glance at the empty drink that she had in her hand. With an inquisitive expression on her otherwise mirthful face, Ai looked back at Rei.] I am thinking of refilling my apple juice, Hino-san, and possibly get some food. I believe I saw some chocolates on one of the tables. [The tone in her voice asked whether Rei would like to come with.]
no subject
[She nods her head and smiles, standing up and dusting off her robes]
That sounds nice. Perhaps I'll join you.
no subject
Sounds good, Hino-san.
[With that, the two girls began walking towards the table that Ai had set her eyes on previously, both of them continuing to enjoy Rei's birthday party and having fun doing so.]
