WHO: Any and all friends of Masaomi/anyone who happens to be on the beach! Invitations would’ve gone out via a (handwaved) secret entry or word of mouth.
WHAT: Masaomi’s birthday party, planned by Shikamaru-Gold-Ikki.
WHEN: Wednesday, June 19th.
WHERE: The beach!
SUMMARY: BEACH BIRTHDAY BASH. It’s pretty simple.
RATING: B FOR BIRTHDAY.

So after being reminded about Masaomi’s birthday, Gold came up with a much better idea than Shikamaru’s (lame) sit-down dinner! Therefore welcome to an all-dayish surprise beach birthday party! There are tables for presents and food, there is music (chosen by the boys, not by Ikki), and there is a sand castle city, complete with sandscrapers, which is what Gold put Ikki in charge of. The sand castle city has gotten a little out of hand because of this.

So stop by, wish Masaomi a happy birthday, and HAVE FUN. While there are three topic threads, FEEL FREE AND ENCOURAGED to just throw up your character at the party below that/anywhere, as per always.

[He opens one eye.] Man, that has to be the most morose way to say you're enjoying yourself.

[But... no. He thinks he gets it. They've lost quite a few friends over the last year - Masaomi more than him, though he's never talked about it much. If anything's a testament to that, it's that it was Mikado who planned these parties, in the two years past.]

I'm turning nineteen - back home I'm one step out of high school and one step into the work world or uni, and man can I not afford uni. But, one year from manhood. Strikes me as a morose age.

[He said with a smile still on his face]

It can be an inspiring one, if you let it. [He looks to the sky now, trying to smile.] You learn a lot about yourself, when you're standing at that threshold. And that's true whether you're here or there.

And for ninja the equivalent age is what, thirteen?

[He looks up at the sky now too, but he's actually smiling]

Man, I don't even know anymore.

[And that's in spite of a conversation they've already had on this subject a while ago. Shikamaru reaches up to gently tug at one of the earrings Asuma gave him.

The day he became chuunin. His first mission. When he got these earrings. Asuma's death, and how it made him realize he needed to grow up. Two months ago, finally tasting war.

When exactly was it? He's the same age as Masaomi, and he doesn't often feel wiser than that.]

Maybe it's a longer road than I give it credit.

Yeah?

[He sounds surprised, in spite of himself. Shikamaru has done dumb things before, but on the whole, he'd thought the other boy had it figured it, more or less. The dumb things were just indicative of times when he was forgetting he had it down.]

It's not like growing up stops, right? We get more adult every day.

[He reaches a hand over to clap Masaomi on the back.] Still, those first steps are a doozy without you dwelling before you start.
