July 1st and July 2nd

[The time since her arrival had passed by swiftly and before she knew it, Neji's birthday was swiftly approaching. In a rush to make sure that things were done correctly and perfectly for her older cousin, Hinata enlisted the assistance of Lee and Chouji. She knew that her cousin's teammate/best friend/greatest rival would want to lend his help and she didn't think that she could handle the food for the entire party on her own. Besides, she and the Akimichi had discussed cooking together. What better way to do that than for a party?

She'd spent two days of afternoon practice making one of the gifts for Neji, away from the floor where the rest of the shinobi lived. Lucky for her, Kiba lived on the top floor of their building and she'd been able to use the kitchen up there. The rest of the food and sweets had been prepared as normal on the fourth floor.]

July 3rd

[The party is well under way. There are plenty of things to do. Of course, this party is not like Masaomi's recent birthday party. Off to one side, Lee has set up a sparring area for those interested. Hinata is demonstrating tea ceremony with a high blush on her face the entire time, in a formal kimono. Chouji's setting up food on a long banquet table. There's a big table with lots of presents there already for the stoic Hyuuga shinobi.

There are also tables with lovely flowers from Raine-san's shop decorating the top for people to sit and talk.]

I didn't know you do that.

[Meditation, he means. Though he should've guessed, since it's a thing Neji's into. He takes a small sip of his tea, but lets it settle. He's expecting it'll taste weird right after the soda, so he washes the taste around.]

It is something that I had to learn to appreciate, but I find it most useful when I am overwhelmed. [Or pushed so hard by her father that she wants to cry.]

Makes sense. I get the same ting out of cloud watching.

Despite Ino-san's vocal opinion on your hobby, I will agree that they can be very relaxing.

[Snort.] Ino doesn't get to talk. She likes flower arranging. Not the biggest of differences there.

[She refrains from commenting for a moment. Her hobby is flower pressing, Shikamaru.] I think there is nothing wrong with someone having a hobby that they are the only one who sees the enjoyment out of it. We do not have to understand one another perfectly to be friends.

[It wasn't mean as an insult to either, just phrased to show that they don't actually sound as drastically different from each other as something like that would imply.]

Obviously. If the opposite were true, I'd only be friends with rocks.

[She never took it as an insult. She just realizes that her hobby is very quiet and unexciting, a bit like herself, she supposed.]

If that were the case, you would not have to force yourself to make conversation if you did not wish to speak.

[Pffft. He snickers a little.]

It'd get old fast.

Hm, yes, I suppose so. [She takes a sip of the tea that she's prepared for herself. It's no longer hot, but that's okay. She's just thirsty.]

Have you visited Lee-san's sparring are yet? I believe he is still looking for challengers.

[His response if quick to the beat, hand raised.]

I'll pass.

[While she understands Shikamaru's reluctance, she does feel a little sorry for Lee. He went through a lot of trouble as well to find out the perfect way to help celebrate Neji's birthday after all.]

Even if you do not fight him, I am sure that he would appreciate seeing you.

I'll see him when he gets bored enough to ambush people by the food table, no doubt.

[Lee's a pal - Shikamaru by no means avoiding him. He just knows he of all people can't hold a candle to Lee in a taijutsu round, and isn't interested in winding up on his back today.]

That should be soon, I believe. He has been at the sparring ring for a few hours now with few challengers. [There are few people here who could match Lee in taijutsu, Naruto, Neji and herself included in that number, and she can't really blame Shikamaru for not wanting to have to stare up at the sky without planning it beforehand.]

Neji-niisan told me that you run the convenience store in the village. Do you enjoy that?

Aa... [He scratches the back of his head now, a little sheepish but grinning.] It only just opened officially a month ago, so it might be too soon to tell. Even if I've been working on it longer.

It's something to do.

I will make an effort to visit it. I have been remiss in exploring more of the village sadly.

Yeah? What've you been to?

I have mostly kept myself busy with the clinic, training and cooking for others. [She sounds happy about that, despite what anyone else might think. Hinata's at her best when she can be useful]

[He leans back on his hands, fingers curling around grass.] So there's still a majority of the plaza you've yet to look at, sans the obvious.

[Grocery, clothing store, etc. Where everyone's stuff shows up.]

Yes, unfortunately. One day I will take the time to actually look around Luceti instead of just how to get to the basic places.

There's some cool spots. Some custom stores, a hot springs in the mountains. That kind of thing.

I have heard of the hot springs. Raine-san told me about it. I meant to bring it up to Sakura-san, but I forgot before now. [Oops!]

It's kinda hot to be using it now, anyways. I'd wait until we a cooler day.

Hm, but it is never too hot to go to a hot spring, Shikamaru-kun. So long as you stay adequately hydrated and do not stay in there for long periods of time, the hot water is good for muscle fatigue any time of the year.

[He rolls his head.]

I'm talking about the feel. It's like eating hot soup when you're in a desert. That kind of thing.
