Neji's Birthday!

Summary: Hinata and Lee set up a party for Neji!

[The time since her arrival had passed by swiftly and before she knew it, Neji's birthday was swiftly approaching. In a rush to make sure that things were done correctly and perfectly for her older cousin, Hinata enlisted the assistance of Lee and Chouji. She knew that her cousin's teammate/best friend/greatest rival would want to lend his help and she didn't think that she could handle the food for the entire party on her own. Besides, she and the Akimichi had discussed cooking together. What better way to do that than for a party?

She'd spent two days of afternoon practice making one of the gifts for Neji, away from the floor where the rest of the shinobi lived. Lucky for her, Kiba lived on the top floor of their building and she'd been able to use the kitchen up there. The rest of the food and sweets had been prepared as normal on the fourth floor.]

July 3rd

[The party is well under way. There are plenty of things to do. Of course, this party is not like Masaomi's recent birthday party. Off to one side, Lee has set up a sparring area for those interested. Hinata is demonstrating tea ceremony with a high blush on her face the entire time, in a formal kimono. Chouji's setting up food on a long banquet table. There's a big table with lots of presents there already for the stoic Hyuuga shinobi.

There are also tables with lovely flowers from Raine-san's shop decorating the top for people to sit and talk.]

Tea Ceremony

[It was nice to finally put some of the skills that she'd learned to be a good and proper wife to use for something that she actually enjoyed. Making tea was always something that calmed her down, but in front of an audience, there was no way that she could do it without blushing.

However, she was happy to be wearing a pretty kimono she'd found in one of the clothing stores, as if this village knew of her desire to wear something like this for a formal occasion.

[All Rock Lee knew was that this day had to be special: the day of Neji's birth. When his youth began. Especially now, with the looming threat of what awaited Neji at home. He was determined to put his all into making sure that this day was absolutely special for his dearest friend.

So he did what he could to provide for the party. He puts his new waiting skills to the test - dashing back and forth to bring food and drink to any guests. Even if they didn't ask for any, in which he case he picked at random.

And, yes. Lee had been confused by the idea that most birthday parties didn't involve stuff like sparring. So he set up a small ring marked by chalk in which people could spar. He spends some time there as well, punching and kicking at the air while awaiting challengers.]

[It's right outside his building, so it's really not like he won't show up. Particularly given that one roommate was apparently in on it and the other... should probably go but he's not really sure what he'll do given the long mission he was on.

Either way.

It's not that he has a lot of ideas on what to do for Neji, nor did he actually plan way in advance for a gift or something, but the least he can do is, with Linda on top of his head, show up for the party. Maybe eat some food. Maybe hit on some girls. Wish well things for Neji, see if he can't get that D&D group off the ground (of course not), and ... stuff. A lot of stuff.

And maybe he'll wonder what he's doing there, but mostly, he'll be doing so much other stuff he can hope it'll seem natural]

He isn't dressed any differently than he usually would be, and he's already found his way to the buffet table. Seriously he must have some sort of food homing device in him or something.]

[So Shikamaru did not help up with the set-up at all (due to being absent one day of it as he was busy on a combat mission, and resting the second day upon his returning).

But it's not like he could've missed it, or the party itself. A part of him finds it awkward, and wonders if Neji feels similarly. The other fully recognizes the need for it, and thinks in the end it's probably a good idea after all. Either way, he's there, most likely staunchly avoiding the threat of physical activity sparring area by taking refuge in the banquet table Chouji set up. He may otherwise be found lounging by a tree, watching the clouds through the leaves.]

[Ino is present in the party, of course!! It's funny how in the party she organized for Chouji, she talked about how close comrades would do the same for Neji with Neji himself. It's a good thing Lee didn't make them wear spandex or else there'd be hell to pay.

She instantly recognizes Chouji's cooking in the buffet table and some of them Hinata's too. (Ino can still remember the incident with the cupcakes even if she's trying to forget about that.) With grace, she takes a small serving of the dessert and tentatively takes a bite. Oh gosh, that was delicious! Okay, maybe she'll forget her diet for now.

She'll also try and spot the birthday boy among the sea of ninjas and friends and will also begin some small talk if you're around her vicinity.]

[ Of course Gai is here as well! He seems to be overly emotional, despite still being entirely sober. Apparently he's going to great pains to talk to everyone and tearfully remind them that Neji is an amazing human being, shinobi, and student. In case they've forgotten. And in case they forget again after he's told them, he's not at all opposed to reminding several of the hapless party-goers again. And again. And if they're really unlucky, they'll have to sit through his Neji exaltation spiel a fourth time.

Neji this might just be your birthday present.

Or... is it... after all, there's an enormous box sitting on the banquet table in a rather telling shade of green.
