[The time since her arrival had passed by swiftly and before she knew it, Neji's birthday was swiftly approaching. In a rush to make sure that things were done correctly and perfectly for her older cousin, Hinata enlisted the assistance of Lee and Chouji. She knew that her cousin's teammate/best friend/greatest rival would want to lend his help and she didn't think that she could handle the food for the entire party on her own. Besides, she and the Akimichi had discussed cooking together. What better way to do that than for a party?

She'd spent two days of afternoon practice making one of the gifts for Neji, away from the floor where the rest of the shinobi lived. Lucky for her, Kiba lived on the top floor of their building and she'd been able to use the kitchen up there. The rest of the food and sweets had been prepared as normal on the fourth floor.]

July 3rd

[The party is well under way. There are plenty of things to do. Of course, this party is not like Masaomi's recent birthday party. Off to one side, Lee has set up a sparring area for those interested. Hinata is demonstrating tea ceremony with a high blush on her face the entire time, in a formal kimono. Chouji's setting up food on a long banquet table. There's a big table with lots of presents there already for the stoic Hyuuga shinobi.

There are also tables with lovely flowers from Raine-san's shop decorating the top for people to sit and talk.]

[It's right outside his building, so it's really not like he won't show up. Particularly given that one roommate was apparently in on it and the other... should probably go but he's not really sure what he'll do given the long mission he was on.

Either way.

It's not that he has a lot of ideas on what to do for Neji, nor did he actually plan way in advance for a gift or something, but the least he can do is, with Linda on top of his head, show up for the party. Maybe eat some food. Maybe hit on some girls. Wish well things for Neji, see if he can't get that D&D group off the ground (of course not), and ... stuff. A lot of stuff.

And maybe he'll wonder what he's doing there, but mostly, he'll be doing so much other stuff he can hope it'll seem natural]

[She'd expected him to show, but she'd been avoiding him since his own party. She'd agreed to swim with him, but he'd made her so uncomfortable with his attempt to get her into the water, she'd been trying to stay away so that it wasn't brought up again.

This would not be a situation she could just ignore him at. So, gathering her courage, Hinata walked over to Masaomi and gave him a polite bow.]

Hello, Kida-kun. I hope you enjoy yourself today. [She turned her attention to the yellow rodent that sat upon his head.] The same to you, Linda.

I'm sure I will, Hiiiiinata-chan. [With a small flourish and a wink. If he's noticed the avoiding, he hasn't commented and he doesn't now either. For her part, Linda just waves lazily with her tail, because she's only half paying attention right now, instead thinking of her next prank]

[A small part of her is relieved that he doesn't bring up what happened at his party. As the hostess for this event, it is her duty to make sure that all of the guests are enjoying themselves.]

Is there something that interests you? I would be willing to assist you if it is within my power.

Oh, Hinata-chan, there's a mountain of things someone as pretty as you could do for me. But in the interests of not alarming Neji-san, I'll refrain.

[Yet another instance of him flirting with her when he doesn't mean it. She throws his compliment away as of no importance.]

Yes, it is wise not to raise Neji-niisan's ire. However, he does trust me to defend myself if the need should arise.

[And he fans himself at this, putting on a little dejected face]

[Another friend putting in an appearance; Neji goes over to greet Masaomi, giving him a graceful nod.]

Hey, who'd miss it? [With a side grin. Even if he's not sure he fits here, he'll go with it. Linda, for her part, is now at Masaomi's ankles, and she waves too. This is the birthday guy, right? Maybe she should do a good natured bop for him[

I'm sure there are a few people in the village who aren't here. [The answer is dry, amused; Neji is flattered by how many people have come, and pleased. He offers a nod of greeting to Linda as well.]

Yeah... I see what you mean. [He adopts a thoughtful pose, looking around the area] Sure, there's appeal here, but it feels like there could be more girls.

That's a rather... particular critique for a birthday party, don't you think? [Seriously Masaomi, do you ever not look for dating prospects?]

[After the fiasco that is Naruto turning into a naked woman, she finally reappears to the party to find Neji and apologize.

A lot. Also clean up the food mess she made oops

But she finds Masaomi first and remembers him if only for all the flirting he had subjected her to. So she wonders if she wants to talk to him and take a bit more amusing flirting or actually find Neji.

She could use some entertainment, so she wanders over and smiles in a friendly (if not a little forced) way that is probably the OPPOSITE of the rage she originally appeared from.]

Aaaaah, I'm honored you remembered me! [Which is good, because he does not immediately connect her voice. He turns to face her more proper like, his hand over his heart to go with the dramatics of the moment - his fingers even wiggling to imply a heart flutter

[Because he didn't see her earlier--! ....Okay no, he totally did]

Her lips quirk up a little more at the nickname. Yep, leave it to this guy to cheer her up a little if only by calling her Habanero-san.]
