Summary: Hinata and Lee set up a party for Neji!

July 1st and July 2nd

[The time since her arrival had passed by swiftly and before she knew it, Neji's birthday was swiftly approaching. In a rush to make sure that things were done correctly and perfectly for her older cousin, Hinata enlisted the assistance of Lee and Chouji. She knew that her cousin's teammate/best friend/greatest rival would want to lend his help and she didn't think that she could handle the food for the entire party on her own. Besides, she and the Akimichi had discussed cooking together. What better way to do that than for a party?

She'd spent two days of afternoon practice making one of the gifts for Neji, away from the floor where the rest of the shinobi lived. Lucky for her, Kiba lived on the top floor of their building and she'd been able to use the kitchen up there. The rest of the food and sweets had been prepared as normal on the fourth floor.]

July 3rd

[The party is well under way. There are plenty of things to do. Of course, this party is not like Masaomi's recent birthday party. Off to one side, Lee has set up a sparring area for those interested. Hinata is demonstrating tea ceremony with a high blush on her face the entire time, in a formal kimono. Chouji's setting up food on a long banquet table. There's a big table with lots of presents there already for the stoic Hyuuga shinobi.

There are also tables with lovely flowers from Raine-san's shop decorating the top for people to sit and talk.]

[Growing up sucks, it's too bad most people had to learn that the hard way. It's funny because for Kushina she didn't mind it too much. Her life didn't change all that drastically. When she was young, they were fighting in wars all the time.

But for a second, her expression softens. They're still just kids.

Then she looks around. Who WANTS to be an adult though? Not her, not really.]

I can think of a better way to have some fun.

Ever seen a Hyuuga drink before?

[He looks around then scoots in closer, slyly lowering his voice.]

I have it on good authority that it's "not proper" of them.

[Which is to say: yes he has, and it was great even if the circumstances were depressing.]

[Well, nobody can compare to the Uzumaki either. It's no Oiroke no Jutsu but Kushina is prepared for this. Where only Shikamaru can see, Kushina pulls out of flask of SOMETHING.]

It's a little too quiet right now, don't you think?

[Especially after a Habanero rampage.]

[Man this sounds fun. Shikamaru's eyes light up with a smirk, already imagining the possibilities and nodding along. But then it drops because he has a question.]

What kind of mom brings a flask to a birthday party with a bunch of teenagers?

[NOT LIKE IT'S GOING TO CHANGE HIS MIND, BUT WOW, NARUTO'S MOM. WOW.]

She folds her arms, tucking the flask away. IF YOU DON'T WANNA HELP FINE.]

I was a teenager once too, ya know. We're just going to give the punch a little extra punch.

[goddamn puns Then she spins it in her hand.]

I was originally going to just use it on Minato but he's been the target of plenty of my pranks.

Just don't go overboard. I'm not sure how many people here are lightweights.

[Masaomi comes to mind, though that would be inaccurate. Shikamaru was so wasted that time they drank together, he couldn't tell that Masaomi was playing it up for his sake.]

Kushina doesn't like being told what to do so she might just pour the whole thing in there THEN WHAT. But then again they are all teens and she really doesn't want to give Naruto alcohol. Or Masaomi.

Also Uzumaki = overboard.]

I just have the birthday boy in mind. I dropped my present earlier so I have to make up for it.

[Hinata might be fun too, maybe. Would she be less shy? Maybe Naruto could get another confession lol...]

I'm not sure how to get it in his drink without him noticing though.

[EVEN MORE OF A BLANK LOOK WHEN HE TRIES TO EXPLAIN. MAYBE A RAISED EYEBROW. If he tried to explain that to ANYONE if they were in Konoha they would think he was insane. Kushina just chalks to up to a Luceti-thing. Like most things.

Does she even want to see a Toast Guy?

Looks at her flask and then at Shikamaru again, looking curious and heaven help everyone, DEVIOUS.]

[Kushina is horrible at heeding warnings it would be better if you didn't say anything. It's like a CHALLENGE now.]

Seriously, lady, this land might be unrecognizable afterward.

[The flask keeps spinning around in her hand and eventually she nods.]

Alright, I'll stay away from this person. Who is it?

[YEAH RIGHT.]

[HE DOESN'T TRUST IT. Or rather from the stories, Lee getting just a whiff of that sounds too dangerous to risk.

He sighs, making a show of giving in. TIME TO THROW A BRO UNDER THE BUS.]

Kiba. The Inuzuka - I don't think he's shown up yet. But the guy can't handle his drink at all.

[This'll probably work out. With Kiba's nose, he'll probably smell it coming a mile away, and Shikamaru won't have to feel bad if something happens.

If he drinks it anyways, well. Kiba's a dumbass, and he still won't have to feel bad if something happens. Win/win.]

Oh, that guy. He asked if her hair was natural. Also he's a part of their troublemaking posse, she decided. She's surprised he wasn't there to egg Naruto on to turn into a naked girl or something. Maybe that was just Shikamaru's job...]

Oh, him. Yeah, I guess Inuzuka are probably more focused on their dogs than drinking.

[THO HE SHOULDN'T BE DRINKING HEAVILY UNTIL 20. Having a little spiked punch wasn't going to kill anybody though. It's a prank. She's isn't pushing shots or bottles of sake or wine or getting anybody hammered. For most of these kids, it should be their first drink. NOT KIBA THO.

If he likes booze she'll give this Inuzuka booze.]

She grins at Shikamaru.]

I can see why you're Naruto's friend. [TROUBLEMAKER. Just like Naruto. And alternatively, like her.]

You're obviously closer to him than I am. What do you recommend?

Spike his cup, not the bowl. Bring a cup for him and an untouched one for a friend he's talking to, like a friendly mom, and he's none-the-wiser.

[WHAT A GREAT WAY TO INTRODUCE HERSELF. She second-guesses her plan for a moment but decides it's as good impression as any. It was better if he knew what sort of person she was in the beginning than Kushina attempting to be polite and a perfect adult only to surprise him later when she was causing trouble.

Because she definitely wasn't a perfect adult.]

And I don't think he'll be forgetting me if this works. [For a number of reasons. Little alarm bells warning her that this isn't what a proper mother would do go off in her head but her prankster (the one that's been around a lot longer than her motherly side) wins out.]
