New Feather Party, Summer Edition!

It's been a lot of hard work, but the New Feather Party is set up and ready to go! A make-shift canopy has been set up, underneath which are a few small tables covered with various foods, some made by Welcome Center staff(though people are encouraged to bring dishes of their own to share!) along with some small ice-filled coolers full of various drinks. There are also a few beach balls, some buckets full of water balloons and some small water pistols (All Pilouette could find were the basic kind; no pumps here!) scattered about for for a bit of fun in the hot weather.

A pony, yep. Though, technically, I'm a pegasus.

[She hovers in place, shifting her board a little.]

But you said you've never seen the surface of the ocean... so does that mean you've only been under it?

Uhm. [Give her a moment, Rainbow. Eleanor's childhood didn't really include ponies. Or pegasuses.]

Uh. Y-yes. I grew up on the bottom of the sea.

Wait, you mean you lived underwater?

[Whoa, that's... actually pretty cool.]

But how? No offense, but you don't look like somebody who can breathe down there. No gills.

No, not...I can't breath underwater. Well, I have a suit that...anyway, no. They built a city down there, with buildings full of air.

[wannabolt]

A whole city? Man, I wish I could see that.

[She may be from a city in the clouds, but an underwater city's totally new turf for her.]

But wait, if you live down there, then what did you eat? Kelp? Lots of fish? It doesn't sound like there'd be much room for farming, that's for sure.

Rapture itself was amazing. [She might have hated it, but she could concede it was a wonder of the world.]

Well, when I was a child they imported food into the city, and people caught fish and had underwater farms...Later on we ate whatever we could find.

[Which would explain why she's so thin, probably.]

[Later on? A frown creeps across Dash's face.]

Wait, so did something change? If they had all that food back then, why would everybody have to scrounge around?

The same thing that happens everywhere eventually. There was a war.

[Shrug.]

...Oh.

[Yikes. That's... depressing. Dash's ears droop at the word war and she gazes off to the side.]

It's funny, 'cause a lot of people here have had to deal with wars at some time in their lives. Where I'm from, it's not even an issue. Here, though? That's a whole different story.

I only dealt with the aftermath. I was...[Hrm. How to explain...] Not myself, during the war.

I've heard about what is going on here. The drafts and such. It sounds as senseless as everything back in Rapture.

I've only been on one of 'em, but it was pretty hectic. We didn't just have to deal with the Third Party, but a bunch of crazy droids, too.

[She shivers.]

Plus, it got ugly fast. Those creeps sure don't pull their punches.

[Eleanor frowns.]

If it's a war, they shouldn't. And you shouldn't. Not if you want to live.

[wannabolt]

Yeah, yeah. I've heard that tons of times, believe me.

[Sigh.]

It's just a huge adjustment when you're from a world where the worst conflicts can be solved by magical gemstones powered by friendship. I've kicked a dragon in the face, but killing's still kind of a stretch.

You do what you have to, to protect your family. [Eleanor looks back out at the ocean.]

The first man I killed, it was only a few hours before I was brought here. I was rescuing my father. Then we had to escape, and I killed...many more.

[She frowns faintly, and falls silent.]

[After a few seconds, Dash lowers herself down onto the sand, folding her wings against her back.]

But it was for survival, right? I guess when you look at it that way, you kinda have to. At least in places where you're put into that position...

Yes. And to protect my family. [The teen shrugs.]

You'll have to do the same, I imagine. [She looks over at the pony, and after a second she smiles ruefully.]

I cannot believe I am having this discussion with a talking horse.

Technically I'm a pony, but I guess that's close enough.

[She snickers, kicking a hoof in the sand.]

Besides, I get that kinda reaction a lot around here.

A pony is just a young horse, right?

[Horses weren't really a thing on the bottom of the sea.]
