Summary: Sokka tries to make up to his housemates by using up his remaining points to make a crowded house much more spacious

That morning, Sokka contacted the Malnosso to use up most of his points. Not only did he recover some of his possessions he had lost when he died, but he opted to make the house bigger. Already there'd been issues after Zuko showed up and with Toph's arrival, there was just too little house for them all to fit into. More upsetting was the realization there was no room for Suki if she ever came back. So despite the knowledge that he might need those points for something else later, he took the hit instead. And so, the upgrade commenced.

He'd been intrigued to watch the house seem to just rebuild itself. He'd delivered the blueprints to the Malnosso and this upgrade would fortunately shift some of the rooms around just as it was supposed to. And it was the afternoon, which meant everyone should be out of the house and would be quite surprised when they returned from their wandering about. Of course, he had some other adjustments to make that would require his bender friends to work on. The Malnosso wouldn't include a free slide with it (after all, he used that free high level reward for a hot tub instead). So he intended to get the first earthbender he found to help him with that. Then of course, they would need to carve a hole in the ground and fill it up with water for a pool. But eventually, after getting that all sorted out, it was complete. The Avatar house had become twice as fun and despite how miserable he'd been lately, Sokka felt good about things.

And so he sent out a message on the journals inviting everyone home. He included an invitation to Suki and Ty Lee to check it out too. They may not have been living at the house, but he was hoping this might change Suki's mind.

By the time everyone else arrives, the pool will be ready (thanks to whoever got roped into making it) and Sokka will have even stocked up on sodas and junk foods for them to eat. He'd have made some good food for them to eat, but... he's Sokka. Junk food will just have to do.

Sokka went ahead and stood up. He had no such plans to cover up and while he wouldn't complain if Suki did the same, it was probably better she did. Less of a distraction. So he retrieved a nearby towel to hold out for her.

"How's this?"

"Perfect. Thanks." She smiled and wrapped the towel around her.

"Alright, why don't you show me around this place so I don't get lost when I visit?"

Sokka remained in nothing but his trunks, but they were nearly dry already. His hair was still damp and allowed to fall around the sides of his face without the benefit of his wolf tail. He'd been less consistent in keeping it trimmed since he arrived in Luceti and by now there were parts of it that went past his shoulders. On a whole, it was something of a sloppy mess of hair.

He led her around the house to the back door. "Come on, it's that big. There's not much chance of getting lost."

Even Suki had to admit he looked nice with his hair down. It had always been a look she liked on him, but it felt wrong for admiring him right now. Just appreciating him felt like cheating on Kurt, so she tried to ignore any feeling he was giving her and just focused on the tour.

"I don't know. I bet you put in a lot of secret passages in here."

Sokka looked back at her as his expression fell a bit flat. Mostly in disappointment.

"... that would have been really cool."

She playfully nudged him, holding back a laugh. "Next time. Besides, you did a great job this time."

He found himself surprised to receive any kind of physical contact from her. He managed to disguise his surprise by looking away. "Next time? Jeez, if there's a next time, it will be when Avatar Roku comes back with his own personal Team Avatar. I'm not sure I can handle that kind of crowd."

"What about everyone from Korra's time? Apparently the Avatar is really good at making friends." It was nice though. Nice that so many people were willing to fight alongside the Avatar.

[markofthewise]

"Well, we have room for Ikki's sister and brother, I guess. Same for Bolin's brother. But I mean, I don't know who else Korra knows? It's not like everyone from our time is here either."

For instance, his dad. Or that foaming mouth guy.

"That's good. Does everyone have their own room then?"

He nodded. "Even better. Since there was two floors, we set it up so the girls get their own floor and the guys get their own. In the interest of not causing an incident, I let the girls keep the first floor. It was safer that way."

"Oh, that was a good idea. Where's everyone's room anyway?"

[markofthewise]

Sokka began to point out rooms as he went.

"Well that's Katara's room, still. Korra's is right beside hers. Ikki is still in our old room and--" He looked at Suki and grinned as he remembered something. "Oh, check this out. Ikki and Aang were crazy about this idea."

He headed towards Ikki's room and opened it, paying no mind to any sense of privacy they might have liked to have.

Suki nodded whenever Sokka pointed out a room, trying to remember everything. She hadn't realize until now how many people from their world there were here. It was kinda nice actually.

"Wait. What did they do?" Figuring it was something airbendy, of course.

There was a pole in the room, but he didn't draw attention to it. Yet.

"Just wait here. I'll be right back." Sokka left Suki in the doorway and quickly ran off, towards the stairs.

"Sokka, why is..." Before she could ask about the pole, he ran off. But seriously, why was there a pole?

The pole sat in the middle of Ikki's room in all its suspicious pole-iness. Somewhere there was also a nest for a bird, a bed, and tacky pictures all along the walls. Ikki seemed to think she was a better artist than she actually was.

About a minute later, however, something unexpected happened. Sokka descended from the ceiling along the pole. He looked over at Suki and smirked.

"That just happened."

She just stared at him, seemingly unimpressed by whatever he did.

"And what exactly was that?" She walked closer and looked up. "You have a pole connecting the floors?"

He frowned at her.

"Yeah. And Ikki and Aang love it." At least some people appreciated his brilliant ideas. "They can use their airbending to go up and down it. It's sort of one way only for the rest of us."

And she frowned right back.

"It's nice. But if you're excited about it, then that's good." Because she wasn't exactly impressed.

He turned around and rolled his eyes as he headed back into the hallway.

"Whatever. Anyway, Toph took my old room. I have the one just above hers."

"Hey." She reached for his wrist. "Don't roll your eyes at me."

Snapping at him was all to easy for her now. It was interactions like this, ones where they were comfortable with each other that felt awkward.

"I'm sorry that I'm not excited about it. It just didn't seem that great to me. But if it makes you guys happy, then great."

His shoulders slumped as he got chastised. Maybe the familiarity was proving to be a bad thing with how easy it was to slip into those little annoyances that they would have at each other. Nothing serious, just petty differences.

"Okay, okay." He pulled his wrist away, choosing to awkwardly cross his arms instead.

"... anyway, Asami's room is over on the other side of the house. There's two empty rooms. I made sure there was room down here in case you and Ty Lee ever wanted to move in."

She looked down, almost ashamed of herself. "I'm sorry." Which was only half true. The only thing she was sorry for was upsetting him.


"Sokka..." The fact that there was a room for her didn't actually surprise her. Mainly because Aang hinted towards one. "I can't move back here, even if I wanted to. I can't leave Sheena."

"Hm." It was all he really had to say to that. He wanted her back in the house. He wanted the entire family there. But there'd be no convincing her and he didn't much feel like it was his place. So he took it in stride and pretended like it didn't bother him much.

"... that's it for the first floor. The kitchen, dining room, and everything else is the same. Do you want to see up stairs?"
