Luceti Valley - The First Log

Who: Everyone
What: The start of a new experiment... or is it?
When: August 2nd - August 6th
Where: Luceti itself
Summary: Luceti has become an idyllic and peaceful 50s-esque village. The first few days are just business as usual, right?
Rating: Varies with thread. Please move explicit stuff to appointments post with appropriate warnings.

August 1st had seemed like an ordinary day in Luceti. But late in the evening, for those night owls who had not turned in yet, they were witness to strange fluctuations in the barrier. Beautiful, really, almost like Luceti had received its own 'Northern Lights', even though it seemed to come from the far east, across the ocean. This ominous light show lasted for all of fifteen minutes before it ceased all together. Skimming the ocean waters, a horde of cultists entered Luceti, cloaked by darkness. Upon reaching the entrance to the tunnels, their leader stepped inside and was followed one by one by his fellow cultists. When the last had entered, the tunnel entrance closed. Across the mountains, the entrance to the tunnels in the village did the same.

Midnight passed without incident, but by three in the morning, the change suddenly came. Minds were altered, forms were changed, and buildings sprang from nowhere.

Much later, on August 2nd, morning settled on a changed village, the new mayor made his way to his mansion with his pair of adorable dobermans at either side of him. The sun shined bright. It was a good day to be a Lucetian.

Note: There will be a stand alone log for the homecoming dance. There will be another log for the second stage of the event.

Day 1

[ Unlike Vastra, Trisha Elric isn't wealthy or aristocratic at all. She's comfortably middle class these days, although she wasn't always. She married into the Elric family and their mom-and-pop grocery store in Historic Luceti, after all. Before that she'd been Trisha Skywalker, from a family of farmhands, and she'd been solidly working class.

She'd also been a friend of a girl named Jenny, who got a job as a maid - and then later found herself with a lover from a higher class. Trisha herself had married up, but to a lower degree, and she'd always simply been happy whenever anyone she cared for found happiness. She'd met Vastra through Jenny, and over the years she'd grown fond of the other woman. Though she hadn't gone to the war - she'd had two young children, the shop, and had been prone to illness in her younger years - she'd wished them both well and waited for their return - although with the return of many other friends and loved ones.

And when only Vastra came back, she'd tried to make a point of visiting the other woman at regular intervals, inviting herself over to tea if need be or sending persistent if polite invitations to Vastra to come over if that seemed more likely to succeed.

Today Trisha has asked Vastra for a cup of tea at a local cafe, and she's waiting patiently with the paper spread in front of her, open to the latest about the strike. Things really aren't looking good...

When Vastra appears, though, she'll be greeted with a smile. ]

[Truth be told, if Vastra hadn't had the support of her children and her friends such as Trisha, things might have turned out for the worse. Even if Trisha had been persistent regarding Vastra's recovery, what had seemed nosy and excessive at the time became something Vastra is very grateful for. It helped, as hard as it had been back then.]

[But it's still difficult, sometimes, to leave the house on a social call. Especially with Trisha, one of Jenny's very good friends. At least Trisha had progressed from 'Jenny's Friend' to one of Vastra's friends--it felt much less forced.]

[She walks into the cafe, looking well-dressed as ever, smiling back.]
Good afternoon, Trisha. [Vastra, unable to help herself, takes a peek at the paper.] Nasty business with the strike. It would all end if those bloody overseers would simply pull their heads out of the sand.

Hello, Vastra! It's so good to see you again.

[ Niceties come first, although then Trisha has to sigh a little. She can't say she disagrees about the strike - especially when she knows very well how this is likely to effect their economy, and the conditions for the working class...

While she'd married up, many of her loved ones hadn't, and it was very personally concerning. ]
It doesn't seem to be getting any better...I do hope the mayor and the Council come to some sort of agreement over it. Things are only going to go downhill if not.

Don't count on it. I think most of the council has forgotten how to use their hands. [Vastra removes her hat has she settles down into her chair across from Trisha. There was a reason Vastra never went near the Council--they had too many opinions on working class people. Most of which completely contrasted with Vastra's own opinions.]

Perhaps I shouldn't be quite so negative about it, though. Goodness knows we could use some positivity.

Well...I can't really argue that point. I do agree we could use some positivity, but with everything going on...a little negativity is understandable.

[ Trisha shook her head, fingering the paper. ]

Anyway...how are your boys?
eversohungry: (I shant be needing dinner)

Giving me wrinkles, as usual. [She chuckles, dropping the subject easily. The tea arrives and Vastra begins going through the motions of pouring herself and Trisha a cup.]

Eugene and Max are both home from university, it's unnerving how fast they've grown up.
