Luceti Valley - The First Log

Summary: Luceti has become an idyllic and peaceful 50s-esque village. The first few days are just business as usual, right?

August 1st had seemed like an ordinary day in Luceti. But late in the evening, for those night owls who had not turned in yet, they were witness to strange fluctuations in the barrier. Beautiful, really, almost like Luceti had received its own 'Northern Lights', even though it seemed to come from the far east, across the ocean. This ominous light show lasted for all of fifteen minutes before it ceased all together. Skimming the ocean waters, a horde of cultists entered Luceti, cloaked by darkness. Upon reaching the entrance to the tunnels, their leader stepped inside and was followed one by one by his fellow cultists. When the last had entered, the tunnel entrance closed. Across the mountains, the entrance to the tunnels in the village did the same.

Midnight passed without incident, but by three in the morning, the change suddenly came. Minds were altered, forms were changed, and buildings sprang from nowhere.

Much later, on August 2nd, morning settled on a changed village, the new mayor made his way to his mansion with his pair of adorable dobermans at either side of him. The sun shined bright. It was a good day to be a Lucetian.

[day four] TAG ORDER: Silver -> Jeb -> Mithos

[Jeb also begged and pleaded with someone else to do a study buddy session with him. He knows Silver doesn't approve of Mithos (and Mithos doesn't seem to be too thrilled with Silver either, but that could be said of most people), but he hopes this goes well.

He plans to make them all a snack and try to keep things peaceful. Jeb hates how selfish it is of him, but he likes having both Silver and Mithos around. Their parents are so distant, so the house always feels so lonely. Even when Silver's there too...

It'll feel better, if it's not just them. At least, that's what he thinks.]

Silver, I'm home! A-And I brought someone to study with us!

[He smiles brightly at Mithos as he leads him to Silver.

Please, please let this work out. Please, get along for once... just for a little while.]

[day four]

[He steps through the doorway into the living room, faking indifference as he avoids looking in Silver's direction - he knows Jeb's brother has never really cared for him, which made it hard to warm up to him at all. Which is why he prefers to invite Jeb over to his house...but his friend had pleaded with him until he'd bent, and here he is idly studying the knick-knacks on the mantel.

He looks back at Jeb in time to catch that smile, though, and he attempts a smile of his own. It is short-lived. He wonders where he should sit, and decides he'll wait for Jeb to sit down first.]

[For a moment, Silver's relieved to hear his brother's voice. Finally, an excuse to get away from his homework! But when he rushes downstairs to greet him, his smile fades. Of all the people he could've brought over it had to be that kid.]

Aw, sheesh, really?

Silver, please don't be like that! [Jeb's tone of voice is already taking a note of pleading, though there is a slight scolding tone under it.] You know that Mithos is my best friend. I don't understand why you don't like him, and why you always have to act this way toward him...

This is why I wanted to do homework at my house, like we always do. [This comment is directed at Jeb - the moderator - but its sharp barbs point toward Silver. He doesn't know what Silver's problem is with him, but then he supposes that nobody else really needed a reason either.]

[He ignores Mithos's comment and approaches Jeb. Silver's always been a little possessive of his older brother; his awkward personality and sharp tongue had kept him from having many friends throughout his life and Jeb's always been there for him. Plus Jeb is so naive and too trusting and easily taken advantage of.] I just don't trust him, okay? Something about him just rubs me the wrong way and I don't want my older brother falling in with a bad crowd.

Mithos works at his family's bakery! He's a hard working and honest person, Silver. He always has been, even when we were kids! I don't understand why you can't just see that... [He takes a step back once Silver approaches.] Besides, it's like you said. I'm your older brother--I'm capable of using my own judgment. Can't you trust me?

[He looks to Mithos, apologetically. After a long moment, he looks back to Silver.]

Can't you at least try to be his friend, Silver? For me? You're not being any better than the upper class when it comes to anyone lower than them status-wise when you assume those kind of things... I know you're better than that!

Besides... if anything, he could help you from falling into bad habits.

[He sure is talking about those grades of yours, Silver.]

[imatreenow]

[He scoffs - loud on purpose, a dry almost-laugh - at the idea that he could lead Jeb to falling into the wrong crowd. What "crowd" does he even know?] Most of the kids at school aren't even worth my time. I'm not going to let Jeb waste his time on them either.

[His eyes narrow on Silver.] I'm only here because your brother asked me to help. I'm doing this for him, not you.

[It takes every ounce of self-control Silver has not to bite Mithos's head off. Or say something really nasty. Okay, so maybe deep down he knows Mithos isn't such a bad egg. Maybe. But he's still Jeb's best friend, and Jeb used to consider Silver his best friend.

He knows if he pushes the issue any further Jeb might actually get seriously angry at him, not just sore like he is now. So as much as he hates it, he bites his tongue and just...decides to play nice. This once.]

...fine, then.

Thank you so much! Both of you. [The soreness Jeb was giving off a few moments ago eases back into his usual gentleness.] Do you two want something to eat?

[He does disagree on Mithos' viewpoint regarding others from school, but it's best not to bring that up right now.]

[A tight shrug in return for Jeb's thanks. He's already wound up, but he decides that he can make it through this if he focuses on Jeb to the exclusion of Silver as much as possible.]

What do you have? [Look at him trying to cooperate and pretend this whole affair isn't as painfully awkward as it truly is.]

[Right. Civility. He'll give it a try, at least...for Jeb's sake. ONLY Jeb's sake.]

Crackers, peanut butter, apples, and some homemade cookies. [Most boys would be drawn to the homemade cookies. Silver would rather go for the apples and peanut butter.]

[He appreciate the effort of both parties, at least! Especially Silver.]

And I was thinking I could make something for you guys, too. We have apples, so... hm. Maybe fried apples? [That... that sounds good, right?] I think we even have some whipped cream to put on top of them!

[imatreenow]

That sounds good. [He tries a smile, but it only translates his awkwardness. He just isn't good at being around people, and he never figured out how to deal gracefully with the reality that a lot of people just don't like him.]

[tsunsandsteals]

It does, actually. [Silver tries to manage a smile right back. This is for Jeb, this is for Jeb...]

Okay, then I'll make that! [...except leaving them alone together is probably not the best of ideas.] Do you two want to help me?

[imatreenow]

I might as well. [He gets his fill of baking - or anything to do with a kitchen, really - at work, but this is different.]

[tsunsandsteals]

Probably a good idea. [And despite his wanting to protest leaving them alone together, he's kinda telling the truth.] I'm the last person you want helping in a kitchen anyway.

[sketchingideals]

You can be in the kitchen too, if you want! [He laughs.] Both of you are taller than me, so you could probably help me get things down from the shelves...

[FOREVER SHORT.]

[imatreenow]

[A soft chuckle - he can at least loosen up that much.] What do you do when you're by yourself?

[tsunsandsteals]

Eh, we've got a footstool. [Even so, Silver tries to keep things on the lower shelves to spare his brother the embarrassment.]

[sketchingideals]

[Jeb nods.]

That's right! The footstool has always helped a lot. [Though it's slightly embarrassing to mention, sometimes.] I wish I could be taller, like you two.

[imatreenow]

Maybe you should have drank more milk.

[Anyway, they're probably in the kitchen now.]

[tsunsandsteals]

[Silver has to bite his tongue hard at that, don't you dare criticize my brother even though I make fun of him for being short. Only I get to do that!]

He takes after Mom. [He thinks. They hardly ever see the folks, so he could be wrong.]

[sketchingideals]

I drink a lot of milk, Mithos! You know that. [He laughs, because he knows Mithos is just kidding.] But Silver's right--Mom's pretty short too, so I probably just got her genetics.

[And he's doing his best to smile, despite his mother being brought up.]
