Luceti Valley - The First Log

Summary: Luceti has become an idyllic and peaceful 50s-esque village. The first few days are just business as usual, right?

August 1st had seemed like an ordinary day in Luceti. But late in the evening, for those night owls who had not turned in yet, they were witness to strange fluctuations in the barrier. Beautiful, really, almost like Luceti had received its own 'Northern Lights', even though it seemed to come from the far east, across the ocean. This ominous light show lasted for all of fifteen minutes before it ceased all together. Skimming the ocean waters, a horde of cultists entered Luceti, cloaked by darkness. Upon reaching the entrance to the tunnels, their leader stepped inside and was followed one by one by his fellow cultists. When the last had entered, the tunnel entrance closed. Across the mountains, the entrance to the tunnels in the village did the same.

Midnight passed without incident, but by three in the morning, the change suddenly came. Minds were altered, forms were changed, and buildings sprang from nowhere.

Much later, on August 2nd, morning settled on a changed village, the new mayor made his way to his mansion with his pair of adorable dobermans at either side of him. The sun shined bright. It was a good day to be a Lucetian.

Note: There will be a stand alone log for the homecoming dance. There will be another log for the second stage of the event.

[Okay, so whatever's going on in Luceti is hella weird, but Jason's kind of accepted it. It's probably harmless and will fade away eventually, right? Just like all the other weird experiments do. He doesn't like it, but there's nothing he can do about it, so he decides to just explore and see what's going on around town.

If he was in a hurry, he might not have stopped, but he sees the street magician performing and figures, well, why not? He's got all the time in the world. He's only watching for a minute or two before he starts to think that he recognizes him, though.

...so he might be staring a little. Oops.]

[Will doesn't recognize Jason, and while the staring may be a bit odd, he's used to being watched, especially for skeptics trying to figure out the slight of hand. Those types usually aren't much fun to deal with if they're vocal about it, but sometimes the challenge of stumping them is a good experience. He mulls it over for a bit as he does a few more tricks for the nearby spectators, then zeroes in on the guy.]

I'm gonna need a volunteer for the next one. Are you interested, sir?

[He blinks, looking around for a moment before realizing that Billy means him. Duh, Jason, he thinks to himself. You're unaffected, not invisible. When he does, though, he just shrugs before stepping forward.]

Sure, why not?

[The voice gave Billy's identity away (he's totally going to tease him about the so-called "disguise" later), but he probably would've said yes anyway. He's curious, he can't help himself!]

[It's nice when they come in with no protests. William still doesn't get what all the staring was about - he sounds casual enough - but it's unimportant for the moment. What matters is having a bit of fun with the spectators.]

It looked like you were watching really closely... do you like magic, or are you searching for secrets?

[As he speaks, he pulls out a deck of cards and starts lazily shuffling it.]

Maybe a little bit of both. Don't worry, though, I like to think I'm pretty good at keeping secrets.

[He sounds so confident, as if he's already figured him out.]

That's always nice to hear. Magic isn't magic when someone goes and spoils the fun for everyone. But I can respect the people who seek out the truth. Now- [He flips through the cards, the numbers facing Jason.] Pick a card, any card.

[He tilts his head for a second, then picks out a five of clubs.]
