Luceti Valley - The First Log

Summary: Luceti has become an idyllic and peaceful 50s-esque village. The first few days are just business as usual, right?

August 1st had seemed like an ordinary day in Luceti. But late in the evening, for those night owls who had not turned in yet, they were witness to strange fluctuations in the barrier. Beautiful, really, almost like Luceti had received its own 'Northern Lights', even though it seemed to come from the far east, across the ocean. This ominous light show lasted for all of fifteen minutes before it ceased all together. Skimming the ocean waters, a horde of cultists entered Luceti, cloaked by darkness. Upon reaching the entrance to the tunnels, their leader stepped inside and was followed one by one by his fellow cultists. When the last had entered, the tunnel entrance closed. Across the mountains, the entrance to the tunnels in the village did the same.

Midnight passed without incident, but by three in the morning, the change suddenly came. Minds were altered, forms were changed, and buildings sprang from nowhere.

Much later, on August 2nd, morning settled on a changed village, the new mayor made his way to his mansion with his pair of adorable dobermans at either side of him. The sun shined bright. It was a good day to be a Lucetian.

Note: There will be a stand alone log for the homecoming dance. There will be another log for the second stage of the event.

[The smell of food is the best way to wake up after a postwork nap. When she pulls it out of the oven, he yawns and stretches, struggling to force his eyes open.]

Z?

[Because it sure as heck ain't Jay cooking something that smells good.]

[Nope, definitely not Jay. That's probably for the best, since Zatanna's tasted his cooking. He definitely lacks a woman's touch in the kitchen, which is kind of bad considering the Graysons can't afford to not eat whatever's made.]

Guess I shouldn't be surprised you're awake now. [Not when she's just pulled his dinner out of the oven. She sets it carefully on the stove, then makes sure everything's off before heading into the living room.]

Hey. Long day?

Weird day. Work's steady since they need so many people to sub during the strike, but those strikers get really mad. What are they even upset about?

[Current events? Who even has time?]

[noitatnacni]

Well, there's talk about raising the taxes again, but the Mayor's trying to keep it from happening. [Not exactly something a fifteen-year-old would be expected to know, but Zatanna does have time, and she's worried about the people in her life. A tax increase would do a lot of damage, so she tries to pick up whatever news she can about it.

But that's not why she came over, and Zatanna leans back against a wall, motioning toward the kitchen.]

I made dinner. The market had some chicken that was about to go, so I got it at a really good price.

[teenwonder]

Again? [There's a faint whine in his tone.] How long until Jay's out of high school again?

[But taxes or no taxes, it's not like that's something he can control. Eating dinner is fully within the realm of his capabilities. Don't mind if he makes a beeline for it.]

Hopefully it won't go through. [After all, the Mayor is pushing against it, so there's got to be hope, right?

But the bit about Jay has her worried for a whole different reason. Zatanna follows after, not minding at all that Dick's headed straight for the food. He usually does.]

I think that depends on who you're asking. He skipped out today.

[He grimaces]

You, uh.


You saw Jay today?


How did that go?

[He really hopes his sickness wasn't too obvious.]

Yeah. He was hiding out in your garage. [And he still could be; Zatanna hasn't checked in awhile, although she probably should get him now that dinner's done.

She shakes her head though, thinking over her talk with him earlier.]

Did you two have a fight or something? He was acting really weird.

Well. See, he's..

[He glances quickly to the windows.]

Z, I can trust you with everything right? Even the big secrets?

[noitatnacni]

Yeah, of course you can. [That she says without hesitation, though it doesn't do anything to ease her fears.] You know I'll do anything I can to help you guys. You're my closest friends.

[And maybe the only people she'd be willing to call family anymore.]

I think... He's gone sick, Z.

[And all of a sudden he's not so hungry anymore.]

[noitatnacni]

...No he hasn't.

[It's too quick a reply to be anything but denial. No matter what Dick says, what Jay spat out when she'd seen him earlier, she just refuses to believe it.]

He can't be sick. He can't.

He doesn't remember anything. I keep telling him about the institute, but he doesn't seem to care. ...I don't know what to do.
