Luceti Valley - The First Log

Who: Everyone
What: The start of a new experiment... or is it?
When: August 2nd - August 6th
Where: Luceti itself
Summary: Luceti has become an idyllic and peaceful 50s-esque village. The first few days are just business as usual, right?
Rating: Varies with thread. Please move explicit stuff to appointments post with appropriate warnings.

August 1st had seemed like an ordinary day in Luceti. But late in the evening, for those night owls who had not turned in yet, they were witness to strange fluctuations in the barrier. Beautiful, really, almost like Luceti had received its own 'Northern Lights', even though it seemed to come from the far east, across the ocean. This ominous light show lasted for all of fifteen minutes before it ceased all together. Skimming the ocean waters, a horde of cultists entered Luceti, cloaked by darkness. Upon reaching the entrance to the tunnels, their leader stepped inside and was followed one by one by his fellow cultists. When the last had entered, the tunnel entrance closed. Across the mountains, the entrance to the tunnels in the village did the same.

Midnight passed without incident, but by three in the morning, the change suddenly came. Minds were altered, forms were changed, and buildings sprang from nowhere.

Much later, on August 2nd, morning settled on a changed village, the new mayor made his way to his mansion with his pair of adorable dobermans at either side of him. The sun shined bright. It was a good day to be a Lucetian.

Note: There will be a stand alone log for the homecoming dance. There will be another log for the second stage of the event.

[Leaning in the doorway of his bookstore in lower Hightown is Hershel Layton staring thoughtfully into the sky. It's a slow time of day and there are no customers inside, so he's come (partially) outside for a spot of fresh air. While he's at it, he ponders what to do about dinner. Maybe he'll let Luke decide tonight?

As he stares off, he isn't in the best state to notice any child-sized people wandering across the way.]

[Since Henry's book has been stolen away by this shift he's currently heading to the bookstore to try and find it. Maybe he could use it to find some loophole in this whole thing or a way to get people to remember.

When he approaches the door, oh hey, Layton's there! But, is Layton in the right frame of mind?]

Excuse me, Professor Layton? Do you work in there?
reminded: (This may take a moment longer.)

[personal profile] reminded 2013-08-05 03:34 am (UTC)(link)
Hm?

[He blinks at the voice and looks down, but continues to lean with his arms crossed. Half wary and half puzzled, he takes careful note of Henry's appearance. This couldn't be one of Luke's friends, could it?]

Excuse me. It seems you have me at a disadvantage.
theboywiththebook: (not buying it)

[personal profile] theboywiththebook 2013-08-05 03:20 pm (UTC)(link)
[Oh...great. Layton forgot him to.]

Nevermind. Anyways, my name's Henry and I was wondering if I could look in your store for something?
reminded: (What's this?)

[personal profile] reminded 2013-08-06 02:54 am (UTC)(link)
... Certainly, Henry.

[That was a little odd as far as meetings go, but a customer is customer. Layton withdraws from the doorway with a slight hobble and invites Henry in with a gesture.]

One thing, if I may: why did you call me "Professor"?
theboywiththebook: (Curious)

[personal profile] theboywiththebook 2013-08-06 05:30 am (UTC)(link)
[Just ignore his lack of shoes and dirty appearance Layton. He totally isn't a street urchin.

Once he steps in he's looking through the bookshelves for his book, but, as he does he'll answer Layton's questions.]

That's because you are one. I mean, before the Malnosso made you forget everything and changed Luceti.

[Completely nonchalant about it too.]
reminded: (What's this?)

[personal profile] reminded 2013-08-06 09:38 am (UTC)(link)
Erm... You don't say.

[Maybe Henry is playing pretend? That doesn't explain how he knew Layton's name, though. Layton watches Henry curiously, not helping just yet. The categories of the store are labeled clearly, so it may be that he can find whatever he's looking for on his own.]

What am I a professor of, pray tell?
theboywiththebook: (Huh?)

[personal profile] theboywiththebook 2013-08-06 01:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Archeology. I think you also taught history.

[As he peers into a shelf, he adds:]

Also you like puzzles.
reminded: (unamused)

[personal profile] reminded 2013-08-07 03:44 am (UTC)(link)
[Henry sounds so very sure of himself. Curiouser and curiouser.]

Can I help you find something?
theboywiththebook: (Hmmm Interesting)

[personal profile] theboywiththebook 2013-08-07 03:47 am (UTC)(link)
I'm looking for a book that has "Once Upon a Time" in gold letter on the cover. It looks like one of those really old books that you'd probably find in a museum. It's about this big too.

[Which he'll show the approximate size with his hands.]
reminded: (Very well...)

[personal profile] reminded 2013-08-07 03:50 am (UTC)(link)
[Ah good, a more normal turn of conversation.]

Hmm... I don't believe we have anything of the description at the moment. Is this a recent release?
theboywiththebook: (disheartened)

[personal profile] theboywiththebook 2013-08-07 04:52 am (UTC)(link)
Nope. It's a book of mine.

[He peeks over a shelf now shoving his hand to the back, seeing if he can find anything hidden in the back.]

I think the Malnosso might've hidden it on me when they changed the whole town.
reminded: (I see...)

[personal profile] reminded 2013-08-07 08:07 am (UTC)(link)
[Well then... not so normal after all. Still, Layton humors him by joining in on the search, checking behind any crannies that could conceivably be hiding a book.]

I haven't seen anyone come into the shop with any old books. Why did they hide it to begin with?
theboywiththebook: (Curious)

[personal profile] theboywiththebook 2013-08-08 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Probably to stop me from figuring away on how to break their curse or whatever.

[Back to the crazy, Layton.]
reminded: (So you're saying...)

[personal profile] reminded 2013-08-08 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
[Dammit Henry!!]

Hm. And when you say "Malnosso", you are referring to Malnosso Textiles, correct?
theboywiththebook: (not buying it)

[personal profile] theboywiththebook 2013-08-08 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
No. I'm talking about the people who do the weird experiments on everyone and send people on drafts.

[It almost seemed to be pointless to explain this kind of stuff, but, someone had to do it.]
reminded: (What was that?)

[personal profile] reminded 2013-08-09 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
That isn't any Malnosso I've ever heard of. Just as questionable as the textile factory, perhaps, if not moreso... but unfamiliar to me.
theboywiththebook: (look over)

[personal profile] theboywiththebook 2013-08-09 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
Probably because they made you forget everything. Like how you were a professor.

[Henry's still continuing to snoop for his book though. Nothing on the lower shelves...drat.]
reminded: (That's right.)

[personal profile] reminded 2013-08-09 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
[He chuckles lightly. That would seem to be the root of the problem, wouldn't it? There isn't much he can hope to understand without his supposedly lost memories... so it might be best to drop it.] Of course.

You seem to know quite a bit about me, but I regret to say I know next to nothing about you. Why don't you tell me a little bit about yourself, Henry?
theboywiththebook: (Huh?)

[personal profile] theboywiththebook 2013-08-09 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
[Oh Layton. If the man had wanted to avoid the crazy, this was probably not the way to do it. Of course, Henry is not going to hide anything about himself either.]

Like what exactly?
reminded: (handchin)

[personal profile] reminded 2013-08-09 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
Your hobbies or family, perhaps?
theboywiththebook: (Hrmmmm)

[personal profile] theboywiththebook 2013-08-09 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
If you mean like if my family's here, they aren't. Some of them are back in Storybrooke, Maine. The others...I'm not so sure.

But, I like to read. Or...I did until I got stuck with a penalty. I do like to practice with swords though.
reminded: (That's a fine view.)

[personal profile] reminded 2013-08-09 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
[Storybrook Main? He can't say he knows it.]

Swords? As in fencing?
theboywiththebook: (pic#5100429)

[personal profile] theboywiththebook 2013-08-09 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, something like that. At least, I think that's what it is. That's the kind of fighting with the really skinny blade, right?
reminded: (It's quite simple.)

[personal profile] reminded 2013-08-09 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
Typically, yes. I suppose you could fence with any type of blade, but it might become difficult with more weight. Who do you practice with?
