Luceti Valley - The First Log

Summary: Luceti has become an idyllic and peaceful 50s-esque village. The first few days are just business as usual, right?

August 1st had seemed like an ordinary day in Luceti. But late in the evening, for those night owls who had not turned in yet, they were witness to strange fluctuations in the barrier. Beautiful, really, almost like Luceti had received its own 'Northern Lights', even though it seemed to come from the far east, across the ocean. This ominous light show lasted for all of fifteen minutes before it ceased all together. Skimming the ocean waters, a horde of cultists entered Luceti, cloaked by darkness. Upon reaching the entrance to the tunnels, their leader stepped inside and was followed one by one by his fellow cultists. When the last had entered, the tunnel entrance closed. Across the mountains, the entrance to the tunnels in the village did the same.

Midnight passed without incident, but by three in the morning, the change suddenly came. Minds were altered, forms were changed, and buildings sprang from nowhere.

Much later, on August 2nd, morning settled on a changed village, the new mayor made his way to his mansion with his pair of adorable dobermans at either side of him. The sun shined bright. It was a good day to be a Lucetian.

The dance committee? Remind me to buy them, someday. [He says with a sinister grin.]

When you do, you'll be butting heads with me, you know. [ She purses her lips. ] Think you're up for that?

What proud father wouldn't want to match wits with his own daughter? [He does an absentminded shrug.] Of course, the only way you could win would be to outmatch me in ruthlessness. So, in a way, either outcome would be a victory for me.

[degleamed]

[ She chuckles. ] I would have learned from the best, it's true.

[He has a slight smile of pride at that.]

You'll find no better teacher. I'm sure that you're already learning even more than you think that you are. [Aside from the potential problem that he has his suspicions about.] Such as your little job at the... what was it - the yogurt shop? [He'd never set foot in it, himself.] You must be picking up some business skills there.

[degleamed]

The soda pop shop, father. [ She was sure he knew what it was, but insisted on getting wrong on principle. ] And I certainly am. I know how to sweet-talk someone into a dozen cookies instead of just six.

My mistake. [He says with a cheeky smirk as he re-adjusts his glasses. He may very well be getting it wrong for fun.] You're showing some business savvy already. It's very commendable. One day, those cookies could be acres of land, or oil deposits. Although, I suppose sweet-talking will only get you so far at that level.

[degleamed]

I wouldn't be so sure if I were you. [ Her grin turns slightly devious. A girl has her ways, after all. ]

That's my daughter. I look forward to your business savvy catching me by surprise, in that case.

[degleamed]

You won't be disappointed, I promise.

A promise, you say? [He says with a sarcastic awe.] You know, Curtisses are allowed to break promises.

[degleamed]

Except for to each other, right?

You are absolutely correct, my dear. [With a wry smile.] I promise you that.

[He may or may not have broken some promises to Nephry already in the past. But that's just business.]

[degleamed]

A promise to never break a promise. I like it. [ She chuckles. ] Now, are you going to see what's in the box, or should I reconsider and take them to Adam?

Very well. If it's a poison, I suppose I'll take this one for the team. [He says lightly as he goes to open it. He would have been find with just leaving it there, neglected.]

[degleamed]

[ He'll find it full of assorted cookies and brownies. There's quite a bit of variety. ]

I certainly will. [He adjusts his glasses with a smile that almost seems warm.] Expect my reviews in the mail.

[degleamed]

Yes. I'll see you there. Ensure that things remain... what is the word? "Copacetic"?"

[degleamed]

That's the word. I'll see to it. [ She heads through the door. ]
