Luceti Valley - The First Log

Summary: Luceti has become an idyllic and peaceful 50s-esque village. The first few days are just business as usual, right?

August 1st had seemed like an ordinary day in Luceti. But late in the evening, for those night owls who had not turned in yet, they were witness to strange fluctuations in the barrier. Beautiful, really, almost like Luceti had received its own 'Northern Lights', even though it seemed to come from the far east, across the ocean. This ominous light show lasted for all of fifteen minutes before it ceased all together. Skimming the ocean waters, a horde of cultists entered Luceti, cloaked by darkness. Upon reaching the entrance to the tunnels, their leader stepped inside and was followed one by one by his fellow cultists. When the last had entered, the tunnel entrance closed. Across the mountains, the entrance to the tunnels in the village did the same.

Midnight passed without incident, but by three in the morning, the change suddenly came. Minds were altered, forms were changed, and buildings sprang from nowhere.

Much later, on August 2nd, morning settled on a changed village, the new mayor made his way to his mansion with his pair of adorable dobermans at either side of him. The sun shined bright. It was a good day to be a Lucetian.

Note: There will be a stand alone log for the homecoming dance. There will be another log for the second stage of the event.

Within the system... [ Though Ororo's still a bit hurt, she has to smile a tiny bit at her daughter's naivete. She reaches out to smooth down a lock of hair, sighing. And when she speaks up next, it's a bit contrite. She never likes getting mad. ]

Oh, Wanda. I know it's hard. Believe me, there is nothing, nothing I want more than to give you and your sisters a more comfortable life. [ She draws back briefly. ] I know it's hard to understand, but what we're doing now - it's the only option, believe it or not. If "moving up socially" were so easy an option, don't you think we would have tried to do so before now?

[maximoff_girl]

Ok, well-- maybe you and Father can't. But that's ok! [She doesn't move away from her mother's touch. She loves being close with her family, and she still remembers when her mother used to brush her hair, back when she was young and it was still long.]I'll move up, and I'll bring all of you with me.

[She glances over at her sisters beds, more out of habit than anything, making sure they're still not there.]

You know my boyfriend, Theodore... Well, he never so much as looks at any other girls. And-- I know-- Well. [She flushes slightly.] He's the only boy in his family. It's only natural-- I'm sure that we'll be married some day. [Judging by her oh-SO-happy expression, she can already hear the wedding bells ring. SHE LOVES THAT BOY. SO. MUCH.] And I'll go live with him, which would make me middle class. And you too, by extension! [Does it really work that way, Wanda? Really? Have you looked at your Father recently?]

By extension, hmmm? [ She's all too amused at how starstruck her girl is over this boy. Not that she blames her; she's met Theodore, and he was a sweetheart. ]

I don't think it works quite like that, honey. [ She gives her daughter a faint smile, letting her hands fall to Wanda's shoulders where she can give them a gentle pat. ] You are right about one thing however, that Theodore is a lovely boy, and I'm glad you're so happy with him.

But, marriage? Can you tell already? [ Ororo chuckles, gently teasing. ]

[maximoff_girl]

I think so! [She bubbles excitedly.] I mean- maybe not right away. There's still the rest of school to worry about. But- I love him so much. [Literally swooning, leaning back in her chair letting her head roll back, before straightening up again.] And I hear the way people talk, about his family's expectations. [You clearly haven't been listening to all the OTHER rumors, Wanda.] He doesn't have eyes for any other girl but me-- I just know it's going to happen! [She has to bite her lip to keep from smiling TOO MUCH. It's only her DREAM, getting married to Theodore. And someday soon, a dream come true!]

[ "The rest of school" is such a reassuring phrase, Ororo has to sigh inwardly in relief. That was a concern of hers that Wanda thankfully put to rest without realizing it. ]

That certainly sounds quite promising. [ And Ororo's so happy that she sounds so hopeful! ] But I wouldn't count your chickens before they hatch, my dear. Why don't you focus on homecoming for now, hmm? Certainly your wedding bells can wait until after then?

[maximoff_girl]

Motherrr. [Wanda gives her a look. What's this "don't count your chickens" business. It isn't counting your chickens when it's a sure thing. And she is sure of it.

After making sure she's given out an adequate amount of attitude for being a little rain cloud at her love parade, Wanda shifts easily back into gush-and-sigh mode.] Homecoming's going to be a dream. I'm so excited.

I know you are. This will be yours and Theodore's last one, yes? Before graduation. I'm sure it'll be memorable for you both.

[maximoff_girl]

Yes. ... our last stretch of time to be "high school sweet hearts" until-- whatever comes next. [College. Wanda would LIKE it to be college. College and marriage. The dream! But she knows college is not quite in the cards for her. Even with a scholarship, her family likely wouldn't be able to afford it. She'll find a job-- NOT act the factory, if she can help it-- and help out, until she and Theodore make things official.]

[ Well, don't fret Wanda. Let Ororo finish that sentence for you. ]

You're a very bright girl, Wanda. And so hardworking. You know that college isn't completely out of the picture, don't you? [ After all, as hard as things were with the strike these days, Ororo remained hopeful. She had to, or else there was no point in keeping up with it. ]

[maximoff_girl]

It's ok. I don't need to go to college. I can get a job without it. [She'd likely end up going into academia anyway, becoming a teacher of some sort herself, since "School" was sort of all she knew how to do. It wasn't really worth the debt. Librarian. Secretary. Assistant. She could get these jobs without a college education.

But oh. ... How nice would it be, if she could go.]

I know you can, honey. But who knows, perhaps we'll manage it and it will open more doors for you. And wouldn't that be exciting? [ Ororo smiles, moving so she can place an arm around her daughter's shoulders, pulling her in close for a one-armed hug. ]

[maximoff_girl]

Yes. [She returns the side-hug in earnest.] ... I think the future looks very bright for us. Everything's going to come out all right. [The never ending optimism of youth.]

[calmbeforethe]

That's the spirit. [ Though a touch naive, Ororo appreciates the refreshing optimism in her daughter's voice. So she presses a fond kiss to her hair, drawing back to give her a warm smile. ]

Now, Homecoming. I wanted to come up here to ask if you any particular plans already set up. Have you decided on a dress yet?

[maximoff_girl]

Decided... Well, sort of. I know what dress I want, but-- well, you know. It's ok, there's plenty of nice dresses, still, and I've almost got enough money saved for one I like! [IF no one buys it from the thrift shop first. Wanda knows there's an entire battalion of girls in the same position she is, waiting until the last minute to buy so the have as munch money saved as possible.]

Almost, hmm? If you need a little extra, Wanda, I'm sure we can figure something out. [ Money is tight, but Ororo's relatively sure they can manage something. ]

[maximoff_girl]

No, no-- I have it under control. Trust me. [Her eyes twinkle a little with mischief. She's never really admitted to down-right doing other students work for them, preferring to call what she does "tutoring." ] Besides-- it doesn't matter what I wear, because I'll be with Theodore.

[calmbeforethe]

Are you sure? I know this is an important night for you both. [ And she didn't want her thinking they couldn't provide for them! ]

[maximoff_girl]

[See, this is why she loves her family. They all CLEARLY care for one another, even if they do sometimes get into spats Korra.] I'm sure. I could afford a dress right now, but I'm taking my own chances waiting to see if I can get a different one. What dress I end up with will be a result of my own choices. ... And weren't we just talking about being careful and responsible and all that?

[calmbeforethe]

[ Oh. Well, now Ororo smiles, wholly glad that obviously her daughter was taking what she'd said to heart. ]

Ahh, so you were listening to me, hmmm? [ She chuckles, gently teasing. ]
