Luceti Valley - The First Log

Summary: Luceti has become an idyllic and peaceful 50s-esque village. The first few days are just business as usual, right?

August 1st had seemed like an ordinary day in Luceti. But late in the evening, for those night owls who had not turned in yet, they were witness to strange fluctuations in the barrier. Beautiful, really, almost like Luceti had received its own 'Northern Lights', even though it seemed to come from the far east, across the ocean. This ominous light show lasted for all of fifteen minutes before it ceased all together. Skimming the ocean waters, a horde of cultists entered Luceti, cloaked by darkness. Upon reaching the entrance to the tunnels, their leader stepped inside and was followed one by one by his fellow cultists. When the last had entered, the tunnel entrance closed. Across the mountains, the entrance to the tunnels in the village did the same.

Midnight passed without incident, but by three in the morning, the change suddenly came. Minds were altered, forms were changed, and buildings sprang from nowhere.

Much later, on August 2nd, morning settled on a changed village, the new mayor made his way to his mansion with his pair of adorable dobermans at either side of him. The sun shined bright. It was a good day to be a Lucetian.

Note: There will be a stand alone log for the homecoming dance. There will be another log for the second stage of the event.

[Luke answers the door a moment later, dressed in his usual jeans and a baggy shirt. You caught him as he was taking a break from working out in the fields, Vash. ]

Hey Vash, how're things?

Oh you know! Not too bad! Making do as best I can! Hahahahaha! How about you? Things going well for you here? Don't suppose you need an extra pair of work hands around, do you?

[In his head that came out more: I'm kinda hurting for money. Do you have an extra job I can do? I will work for food.]

Good. [Luke does actually take the meaning, and he nods. A few people have come through asking the same thing, and he's glad to help out.]

Yeah, actually I could. It's about time to harvest tomatoes again and some of the scarecrows need new straw. I can pay you a bit, or give you some of what we've got stored up if you'd rather have that.

[goldenglasses]

Money or any extra harvest that you might have to spare and I'll be happy! So you need help with the tomatoes? Sure! I can do that! Just show me the ones to pick! I know it's not the green ones at least!

And I bet I could stuff a mean scarecrow! Just point me to the hey!

Alright. It's around back. C'mon, I'll show you.

[He walks out and heads around to the side of the house.]

How's the strike going? Any sign of them giving in?

[goldenglasses]

[Vash stuffs his hands into his pockets and follows behind Luke. Taking a look around the farm as they go. He sighs when the strike is mentioned.]

None yet, I'm afraid. It's all one big mess really. We're all out of work, but even if we get what we want then all those people doing our jobs right now will also be out of work again. I wish there were just more jobs for people in general.

[It's hard for him to hold back a sigh of his own. That was never good, and the longer this went on the worse things were going to get. What was the Mayor thinking, not stepping in?]

Yeah, but things aren't all that bad. Not if we stick together. You know there's always work I can use help with, and I've got space if there's any reason you find yourself without a place to stay. It's not much, but it's the right thing to do.

Thanks, it's always nice to know there's a kind hand around offering help. If you don't think it will be too much of a burden I may let a couple of the other guys know that. [The ones with kids in particular. While Vash didn't exactly want to go crawling back to his own family he at least knew there was a way out for him if he begged hard enough.]

Of course I don't mind. I'll do what I can, where I can for anyone who needs it.

[There's a spark in Luke's voice that he doesn't normally have. He may not be a factory worker, but rebellion is in his blood.]

[goldenglasses]

[Vash notes the spark in Luke's voice, but doesn't comment. He's never been one who really likes to rebel, but he knows it's good that there's people like Luke around.] Thanks, I'm sure a lot of the others could really use a helping hand right now. At least things can't get too much worse. [Except for that tax hike that's on the way.]

Yeah, exactly. Everything'll work out, Vash. One way or another.

Yeah, one way or another. We'll just see how it goes for now.
