Luceti Valley - The First Log

Summary: Luceti has become an idyllic and peaceful 50s-esque village. The first few days are just business as usual, right?

August 1st had seemed like an ordinary day in Luceti. But late in the evening, for those night owls who had not turned in yet, they were witness to strange fluctuations in the barrier. Beautiful, really, almost like Luceti had received its own 'Northern Lights', even though it seemed to come from the far east, across the ocean. This ominous light show lasted for all of fifteen minutes before it ceased all together. Skimming the ocean waters, a horde of cultists entered Luceti, cloaked by darkness. Upon reaching the entrance to the tunnels, their leader stepped inside and was followed one by one by his fellow cultists. When the last had entered, the tunnel entrance closed. Across the mountains, the entrance to the tunnels in the village did the same.

Midnight passed without incident, but by three in the morning, the change suddenly came. Minds were altered, forms were changed, and buildings sprang from nowhere.

Much later, on August 2nd, morning settled on a changed village, the new mayor made his way to his mansion with his pair of adorable dobermans at either side of him. The sun shined bright. It was a good day to be a Lucetian.

Note: There will be a stand alone log for the homecoming dance. There will be another log for the second stage of the event.

Just... [Had a bad dream and it threw him off? No, that's silly.

Maybe attempt some semblance of the truth?]

I might have hit the liquor cabinet a little last night. I'm okay, don't worry about it. Let me make your breakfast.

Drinking in the middle of the week? That isn't like you either.

[This is just getting stranger and stranger. What could possibly drive Isamu to want to drink, much less get drunk, on a weeknight? Now he really is concerned.]

Is there something you're hiding from me, Isamu? I'm not going to get angry, whatever it is. You can tell me.

[Well, what is like him? How is he supposed to pull off this charade if he doesn't even know how he is??

He lowers his arms. This is Richard - still mostly himself despite the changes in scenery. He can still trust him with some things, right?]

If I tell you something, will you promise to keep it to yourself for now?

Of course-- I'm almost hurt that you don't trust me after all these years. How long ago was it that we promised to always keep each other's secrets?

[To Richard, they've been friends for years, ever since they were children. That was why he'd taken Isamu on as his servant in the first place: to help bring his friend up out of the lower class and give him a better life.

He can't understand why his supposed childhood friend would suddenly be so hesitant about confiding in him.]

I don't remember.

[He mutters this, and it's the truth. He doesn't know anything about this world that's been made up around them now. It's not like the times before when he's been a part of the illusion.]

I think I might be losing my mind... But I can still function! I can still work, just... You'll help me remember, won't you? I'm sure I can get better if you help me.

[God, that sounds pathetic.]

Losing your mind...?

[Those, to Richard, are very alarming words. He knows about the Institute; knows what happens to the people who are taken there. And he also knows that it doesn't take much for the police to show up at your door to "take care" of someone. The last thing he wants is to see that happen to his friend.

He's quiet for a moment, taking this in, before he nods.]

Of course I will. I won't say a word to anyone else about any of this, no matter what. And I'll do whatever it takes to help you remember without taking you to that terrible Institute. I don't trust any of the doctors there to be of any help.

[He looks immensely relieved at this, and not a bit of it is just for show. The comment about the Institute is taken in as well. It'll have to be looked into later, as clearly he's not the only one not affected.

Isamu is lucky, so very lucky, that he woke up in Richard's home.]

Thank you. I shouldn't have tried to keep it from you. It's just frightening.

[And that's not really a lie either.]

I'm still going to make you breakfast, alright? And you can tell me if my toast making skills have worsened.

[Isamu's expression is one of such genuine relief that Richard can't help but reach out and enfold him in a tight hug. No matter what happens, no matter what Isamu thinks is wrong with him, he's still Richard's dear friend, and Richard will do whatever he can to protect him.]

You don't have to explain yourself to me-- I can understand exactly why you would want to hide something like that. But know that I would never, ever do anything to cause you any harm, not on purpose.

[At last he pulls back a bit, keeping his hands on Isamu's shoulders.]

However, I'm not quite certain what I should do if your cooking skills have in fact been affected... perhaps some remedial lessons would be in order?
