Luceti Valley - The First Log

Summary: Luceti has become an idyllic and peaceful 50s-esque village. The first few days are just business as usual, right?

August 1st had seemed like an ordinary day in Luceti. But late in the evening, for those night owls who had not turned in yet, they were witness to strange fluctuations in the barrier. Beautiful, really, almost like Luceti had received its own 'Northern Lights', even though it seemed to come from the far east, across the ocean. This ominous light show lasted for all of fifteen minutes before it ceased all together. Skimming the ocean waters, a horde of cultists entered Luceti, cloaked by darkness. Upon reaching the entrance to the tunnels, their leader stepped inside and was followed one by one by his fellow cultists. When the last had entered, the tunnel entrance closed. Across the mountains, the entrance to the tunnels in the village did the same.

Midnight passed without incident, but by three in the morning, the change suddenly came. Minds were altered, forms were changed, and buildings sprang from nowhere.

Much later, on August 2nd, morning settled on a changed village, the new mayor made his way to his mansion with his pair of adorable dobermans at either side of him. The sun shined bright. It was a good day to be a Lucetian.

Note: There will be a stand alone log for the homecoming dance. There will be another log for the second stage of the event.

[He stepped back, leaning against the door frame again.]

That's what she'd like ya to believe. If you kids knew half the things she did yer age...

[maximoff_girl]

Ohh? Like what? [DO tell. You have her full attention.]

[snikting]

Heh. I know better'n to go tellin' on your mother. But let's just say there used to be a time when she and yer Uncle Remy weren't so different.

[maximoff_girl]

Hmmm... So-- what you're saying, is, go find Uncle Remy and ask him. [The comparison was already clear, though, as well as a bit surprising. She couldn't quite imagine her mother being at all like Uncle Remy. It was a weird thought!]

[snikting]

[He snickers.]

Ya didn't hear that from me. Anything ya learn from yer uncle didn't come with my approval.

[maximoff_girl]

Father, you know as well as I do that this conversation never happened. I've done nothing but study this entire evening, and I'm relatively sure you're outside working on your motorcycle again at this very moment. [She considers, with a smirk.] Hmm. Perhaps I do take after Mother more than I realized. If Mother is indeed like Uncle Remy.

[snikting]

... Wanda, the day ya start takin' after yer uncle is the day yer lookin' for somewhere else to stay.

[Okay, sure, he wouldn't kick her out for that. But he'd be very disappointed in her for it.]

[maximoff_girl]

I'm only following the stream of logic you set forth, Father. [She says it with a smile. She is confident he would never kick her out.] ... Don't worry though. I have too many goals in life, and too much work ethic to ever really be like Uncle Remy.

[snikting]

The fact you have any goals in life means you won't be anything like Uncle Remy.

[Because it was hardly any secret that Logan thought less than nothing of his brother in law.]

[maximoff_girl]

Coming from you, that's a complement. Thank you, Father. [If she were still a little girl, she would probably hug him right now. She adores him so. But, she's no longer a little girl, so she tries to act like the mature adult she thinks she is.]

[snikting]

'Course it is. Speakin' of things coming from me...

[He pulls out his wallet. There's not much in there, but he pulls out a few bills and sets them in front of her. It's not much, but it should help with getting her dress.]

That's fer the dance. I know it ain't as much as last year, but ya should be able to get somethin' decent with it.

[maximoff_girl]

Father...! [Wanda looks at the money in surprise. She knows what that sort of thing means.] I can't take this-- You worked hard for this money. It should go towards something less frivolous than my dress. [Looking up at him, her expression has gone serious.]

[snikting]

[He leans back and shakes his head.]

It's not frivolous. Me an' yer mom went to a dance just like this twenty-some years ago. It was just as important to her as it is to you.

[maximoff_girl]

[This only serves to remind her of how much she adores Theodore. In fact, she has modeled a lot of her relationship with him after how she perceives her parent's relationship.] I've been taking on more tutoring sessions to earn extra money. It's important to me, yes; So shouldn't I be the one to raise the money? [She doesn't want to say the money should go towards the family. She's not supposed to know how tight money is, exactly. But she has an inkling.]

[snikting]

The dance is nearly here, Wanda. Do you have the money to get the one ya want?

[His guess is no. He could be wrong and he'd be proud of her if she was. But even he wanted her to look nice for it.]

[maximoff_girl]

Welll... [She hesitates. The one she wants, or the one she wants that's at all in her price range?] Not just yet. But I will by end of day tomorrow!

[It's a half truth, of course. She'll have enough money for A dress, not THE dress. But she never truly believed she would get that dress anyway. And as much as it means to her, and as generous as it is, a few more dollars aren't going to make the difference.]

[snikting]

Keep it, punkin. If ya feel that bad about it, you can give me what's left over. How's that for ya?

[He was sure that none of his daughters would get the dresses they really wanted. But if he could help them get better than the bargain bin, then at least it was something.]

[maximoff_girl]

[Wanda looked at the money on the table. It was very tempting. But-- was it right? On the other hand, he was offering. And he wouldn't offer what they couldn't spare, right?] Hrmmm. Alright. But you actually have to take anything that's left over. None of that "It's your money, you can't make me take it, my word's final" business.

[snikting]

Fine. It's a deal. [He sticks out a hand for her to shake.] Happy?

[maximoff_girl]

[She takes his hand, giving it a firm, confident shake, her expression very serious and business like. She gives a curt nod, with it.] Extremely.

[Unable to hold that serious face any longer, she beams up at him again.] ... Thank you, Father.

[He grins, messes with her hair a bit, and starts to turn away.]
