Luceti Valley - The First Log

Summary: Luceti has become an idyllic and peaceful 50s-esque village. The first few days are just business as usual, right?

August 1st had seemed like an ordinary day in Luceti. But late in the evening, for those night owls who had not turned in yet, they were witness to strange fluctuations in the barrier. Beautiful, really, almost like Luceti had received its own 'Northern Lights', even though it seemed to come from the far east, across the ocean. This ominous light show lasted for all of fifteen minutes before it ceased all together. Skimming the ocean waters, a horde of cultists entered Luceti, cloaked by darkness. Upon reaching the entrance to the tunnels, their leader stepped inside and was followed one by one by his fellow cultists. When the last had entered, the tunnel entrance closed. Across the mountains, the entrance to the tunnels in the village did the same.

Midnight passed without incident, but by three in the morning, the change suddenly came. Minds were altered, forms were changed, and buildings sprang from nowhere.

Much later, on August 2nd, morning settled on a changed village, the new mayor made his way to his mansion with his pair of adorable dobermans at either side of him. The sun shined bright. It was a good day to be a Lucetian.

"If you fall asleep in this car, I reserve the right to throw cold water on you to wake you up."

[complicatedliar]

"'m sorry," he said. Why was Tony being so mean to him? Loki hunched his shoulders a bit more, sinking down in the seat. "I'll try to stay awake."

[alloys]

"Good." He didn't say anything after that, letting the monotony of the radio fill the silence.

[complicatedliar]

Without anything to distract him, Loki did start nodding off, as curled up as he could get in the front seat.

Fortunately, it didn't take them more than a few minutes longer to arrive at the Stark estate. Tony pulled into the driveway and killed the ignition, glancing over at his drunk friend crumpled in the passenger's seat.

"I don't have to get that glass of water, do I?"

[complicatedliar]

The cessation of movement and Tony speaking dragged Loki from his near stupor. "...what?"

[alloys]

"We're here." He sighed inwardly.

[complicatedliar]

"Right." Loki began to untangle himself from the seat and his own coat, then fumbled the door open. Then promptly fell out of the car. And started laughing.

[alloys]

Good grief.

Tony stepped out of the car and wheeled around the hood to find his friend laughing in a heap on the ground. "I fail to see what's so funny about this," he grumbled, stooping down to help Loki to his feet again.

[complicatedliar]

Loki giggled, the sound abruptly ending in a hiss of pain as he clung to Tony. "It's hilarious," he said. "I hated that car anyway. Father should have been driving that one." He started laughing again.

[alloys]

"Ass," Tony hissed, glaring ahead as he led Loki towards the front door. If Loki wasn't as drunk as he was, Tony might have slugged him for that one.

[complicatedliar]

"Why not," Loki continued, still laughing. The sound had a definite tinge if hysteria to it now. "I was the one that killed them anyway. It's poetry. Poems. Poetic. Thingy. Should've taken the other car."

[alloys]

He wasn't going to bother reasoning with him. At the doorstep, Tony pulled out his keys and unlocked the door.

"I doubt it."

[complicatedliar]

Loki leaned on Tony. He seemed to finally be running out of laughter. Or breath. "Doubt what?"

[alloys]

"That it's poetic." He pushed the door open, ushering Loki inside. The house is quiet and dark, but Tony finds a nearby lamp with his free hand.

[complicatedliar]

"You know what's poetic?" Loki asked, switching gears again, his smile going misty. "Your secretary. How she smiles."

[alloys]

"Marie?" He said distractedly, lugging Loki towards the couch. "She's too good for you. If you keep this up especially."

[complicatedliar]

"She likes me," Loki said, almost petulantly. He still had the presence of mind to not mention that she was a good kisser.

He flopped onto the couch, then let out an agonized groan and curled up around his side again. "It was just an accident. Everyone has accidents."

[alloys]

"That doesn't excuse it." Tony buckled onto the couch himself, tucking a hand into his jacket pocket and pulling out a cigarette case and lighter.

[complicatedliar]

"Pretty sure you don't need an excuse for accidents. Because they're accidents. They're accidental." Loki felt around in his pockets for his own cigarettes, then reached for one of Tony's when he couldn't find the packet.

[alloys]

Tony lit one for himself before passing off another to Loki willingly. He just needed a minute to unwind. God, he felt like hell.

"You're not supposed to encourage them by driving drunk, either." But he wasn't expecting to drive that point home tonight.

[complicatedliar]

Well, he wasn't so far gone that he didn't admit he was drunk. He took as deep of a draw on the cigarette as he could and sighed. "I drive just fine when I've had a few. Was that damn deer. Would've gotten anyone."

[alloys]

Tony took a drag, lungs expanding. "You should have called me before you drove."

[complicatedliar]

He laughed. "You'd get awful tired of hearing from me."

[alloys]

"...Yeah." Which was why he had to stop. But that was another conversation that could wait until morning.
