Luceti Valley - The First Log

Summary: Luceti has become an idyllic and peaceful 50s-esque village. The first few days are just business as usual, right?

August 1st had seemed like an ordinary day in Luceti. But late in the evening, for those night owls who had not turned in yet, they were witness to strange fluctuations in the barrier. Beautiful, really, almost like Luceti had received its own 'Northern Lights', even though it seemed to come from the far east, across the ocean. This ominous light show lasted for all of fifteen minutes before it ceased all together. Skimming the ocean waters, a horde of cultists entered Luceti, cloaked by darkness. Upon reaching the entrance to the tunnels, their leader stepped inside and was followed one by one by his fellow cultists. When the last had entered, the tunnel entrance closed. Across the mountains, the entrance to the tunnels in the village did the same.

Midnight passed without incident, but by three in the morning, the change suddenly came. Minds were altered, forms were changed, and buildings sprang from nowhere.

Much later, on August 2nd, morning settled on a changed village, the new mayor made his way to his mansion with his pair of adorable dobermans at either side of him. The sun shined bright. It was a good day to be a Lucetian.

Note: There will be a stand alone log for the homecoming dance. There will be another log for the second stage of the event.

[Ok, so originally she'd meant that to be leading into another crack about addiction, but this works, too: She shouldn't stop staying home, either.]

[ ...Oh, that's kind of a good point. Hmm. ]

So much that you never try anything new?

I try new things, I just don't like many of them.

[Name one new thing in the past months, Daria. Go on. Name one.]

Well...what things do you like? Maybe we have some common interests!

[mysicksadlife]

I like reading pretty well. And watching TV. I guess I don't mind music, either, if it's good.

[degleamed]

Oh, I love reading, and music, too! See, we're already on our way to becoming the best of friends.

[mysicksadlife]

[She wouldn't quite put it that way, but she is pleasantly surprised to find out someone else enjoys reading. Especially one of the perky, popular people.]

You like reading?

[degleamed]

Oh, yes! Absolutely. I read all the time. What are your favorite books?

[mysicksadlife]

I've been reading a book called Fareinheit 451.

[Daria manages to name a rather controversial book definitely on a fast track for banning some day.]

[degleamed]

Oh? I haven't read that one. Are you enjoying it?

[mysicksadlife]

[Considering the school teachers would be shocked to hear about it, she has to wonder for a moment whether Rapunzel doesn't recognize the name, or whether Rapunzel doesn't mind.

The second possibility definitely means she might have to rearrange some of her thoughts, and surprises her into answering honestly.]

I am. It has a lot of good points to make about the authority we give to the government, and the way ideas and knowledge can be wrongfully suppressed.

[degleamed]

[ Her brow furrows with interest. ]

That sounds fascinating! Maybe I could borrow it when you're finished with it? If it's not too much to ask.

[mysicksadlife]

[Surprisinger and surprisinger.]

If you want to, I don't mind. I should be done with it sometime tomorrow. I'll give it to you in school.

[degleamed]

That would be great! Thank you, Daria.

[mysicksadlife]

You're welcome. Tell me what you think about it later. [Maybe over lemonade, or ice cream sometime?]

[degleamed]

I will! We could discuss it. Do you like soda? I work at the Soda Pop Bakery - you could join me there sometime.

[mysicksadlife]

I like soda as much as the next person. [And that's a twitch of her lips, not a smile. Really.] I'll see you there sometime after you have a chance to read it.

[degleamed]

Great! And maaaaybe I'll see you at the Art Club sometime, too!

[mysicksadlife]

Let me get some details about that for later. Just in case.

[She may very well end up following through on that even after this ends.]

[degleamed]

[ She grins. ] We meet the third Wednesday of every month at 3:00 PM in the art room. I'd love to see you there.

[mysicksadlife]

I just might do that. For now, I'm escaping back home, though.
