Luceti Valley - The First Log

Summary: Luceti has become an idyllic and peaceful 50s-esque village. The first few days are just business as usual, right?

August 1st had seemed like an ordinary day in Luceti. But late in the evening, for those night owls who had not turned in yet, they were witness to strange fluctuations in the barrier. Beautiful, really, almost like Luceti had received its own 'Northern Lights', even though it seemed to come from the far east, across the ocean. This ominous light show lasted for all of fifteen minutes before it ceased all together. Skimming the ocean waters, a horde of cultists entered Luceti, cloaked by darkness. Upon reaching the entrance to the tunnels, their leader stepped inside and was followed one by one by his fellow cultists. When the last had entered, the tunnel entrance closed. Across the mountains, the entrance to the tunnels in the village did the same.

Midnight passed without incident, but by three in the morning, the change suddenly came. Minds were altered, forms were changed, and buildings sprang from nowhere.

Much later, on August 2nd, morning settled on a changed village, the new mayor made his way to his mansion with his pair of adorable dobermans at either side of him. The sun shined bright. It was a good day to be a Lucetian.

Hmm...[Even though he's an aristocat, he's not sure he approves of them being called ants. It's kind of true, though, he can't deny it! And he certainly won't say so to Mr. Curtiss.] That sounds right to me. While they're all enjoying the holidays, we'll be enjoying them in style, too. It must be really hard to be an ant. It's like they're eating crumbs and we're eating bamboo.

Does it matter? They get along well enough for crumbs. Maybe they even get accustomed to the taste. It's as simple as that.

Ahh...! It's like how you eat something even if you don't like it just because your mom used to make it for you. Is that what it's like to be poor? [He laughs.] You wouldn't know, of course.

I certainly don't know for myself. [He only manages a slight smile rather than any laughter.] And I don't intend to. It's too unseemly to even entertain such thoughts. Just accept things for what they are: we're us, and they are them.

That's right, that's right. We work really hard, too. We're the ones who deserve all of this, don't you think? They'd be lost without us instructing them.

It's startling, the amount of valid points that you're raising. But you're right. It's our birthright. We're the only ones who truly know better, in the end.

Hmm, hmm! Without me, there'd be no Bearbank or Panda wing at the hospital! They should be more thankful, really...it's too bad.

They don't think to be grateful - most of them, that is. They're greedy and grubby and don't know how to just settle for what they have. This tax hike is just the firm measure we've needed to keep them in line.
